  • After many years, this is still one of my favorite songs. Such raw emotion for such a sensitive subject matter.

  • Ah, and just for the record, you can keep your points, and your mercy I don't want either, thor. Lol.

  • @All of you. The point is to enjoy the song. You keep trying to make it into something deeper then it is and all you get out of it is six minutes and three seconds of wasted interpretation. Listening to simply listen is lame? Well I disagree. The -only- reason songs have a meaning beyond literal interpretation is because people like you guys study and turn it over in your minds. The artists dumbly nod their head and take credit. Clever really.

  • See it's funny, I thought that, it just meant they were swept away by you know, water. And died. But apparently some people were inside the songwriter's head and drew some cryptic meaning from it. Hate when people make up ridiculously deep theoretical meanings for songs.

So let's all discuss the -true- meaning of I'm a little teapot now.Or we could you know, listen to the song.

  • @JonJuicebox Everyone relates to things differently that's why they are so many different interpretations. You could just always listen to the song but what's the point if you don't draw some meaning or understand it. That's lame just listening to something just to listen.

  • @JonJuicebox music usually has meaning beyond the literal interpretation of the words

  • @JonJuicebox the song is obviously metaphorical that I actually feel stupider for reading your comment.

I award you no points and may god have mercy on your soul

  • @DropDeaddToasterx3 no you may not get AN* amen.

  • ''His mother whispers quietly'' *STARTS SCREAMING*

  • ilovethis <33

  • Now this is the Spill I love and miss :)

  • Really touching song.♥ It makes me tear up. Everytime!~ CAN I GET A AMEN?

  • @Kurrency2011 SmyD.

  • Am I the only one that misses this Spill Canvas? I'm not really into the sell-out. If you make music, it should be for the love of it and not for the love of money.... imo.

  • This is one of my favorite songs, ever. My niece is named after Veda, and this song has such great meaning. I listen to it constantly and it will never get old.

  • Why should Vada be jealous of her sister veronica? She's beautiful just the ways she is. haha

This song is incredible, and i can't get it out of my head. it hit me really hard the first time i heard it and continues to hit me every time i listen to it, kinda like the tide. :)

  • @andrewmcl14 Vaida ;]

  • my girlfriend said she didn't like The Spill Canvas.

    ....

    now shes single!!=)

    ....

    just kidding..

    ....

    She's dead

  • @yamastar123 Good job.

  • for some reason, this band has saved my life so many times. always <3

  • 154 people still think love is a hoax.

  • <3 <3 Love this song <3 <3 Amazing on guitar <3 <3

  • Rainymood + this song = tears</3

  • i love this song

  • everyone stop saying that you know what this song is about and fighting about it, we all have our own opinions and its all in the way we interpret it. If you want to know what a song is truly about look up what the artist said about it. If the artist hasn't said anything then it means they want you to interpret it yourselves and have your own opinion. The tide is about children whose lives were overcome with bad emotions due to their parents maltreatment, thats my opinion. remember opinion

  • the really bad commercials before really good videos suck.

  • How on Earth could anyone dislike this song? Damn communists.

  • God this song gives me gooosebumps.. I love it . <3

  • Great song, overall direction video took, and lyrical genious artist portrayed were both beyond my expecations, definately a reason they inspire my band. =)

  • saw them in souix falls great job

  • 2:10

  • A very powerful video, to a very powerful song.

Every time I listen, and Watch this video, I cry. I love this song. <3 151 people don't know real music.

  • This song is so amazing... i will be getting a tattoo that says "Heaven is not a place you go when you die, its that moment in life when you actually feel alive". LOVE that quote.

  • So, just for your info...Nick Thomas is my stepson. He wrote this song in his bedroom when he was 16. That would have been 11 years ago. Don't know this other song mentioned Infrared Roses, but Nick wrote and recorded this song long long before this other song was. This song was from his first album Sunsets and Car Crashes. So, I'm thinking they stole the line from him...if anyone stole anything from anyone.

  • Does this song remind anyone of Inception?

  • It could just be a random song with no deep mystical annotation behind it, you know, just a good song, like how he says the kids hair dances in the wind, and while he sings it, the kids hair is as still as cement. I lol at that.

  • Dade<3

  • did she throw a paper plate at him?

  • So its all dad's fault?

  • i could listen to this song on repeat for hours.

  • some guy dropped this on a friends remembrance page for her daughter..her daughter killed herself at 14..im not getting the correlation because it wasnt a violent family situation..her mom loved her very much.. it was over her being a jilted lover.. well as jilted as one can be at such a young age.,hopin her mom doesn't find this offensive..shes been through enough already

  • "heaven isn't some place that we go to when we die. It's that split second in life where you actually feel alive" Way to steal lyrics from Eyedea & Abilities' "Infrared Roses" (2002)

    real original

  • @osiristhekyd So what if they stole a line from a song. Artists have been stealing ideas from the dawning of it's creation. If artists hadn't, we wouldn't have as many written languages, we wouldn't have Shakespeare, we wouldn't be going to whole art museums, we wouldn't have much music, and we sure as hell wouldn't be listening to the groups we have now. It doesn't necessarily take away from the artist's originality.

Grow up and just enjoy the music. : )

  • @osiristhekyd i was wondering earlier who wrote it first.

    ever listen to Nas?

    no ideas original.

  • .....Dave has some serious issues xD

  • OMGGGGG

he totally just hit his wife while wearinga a wifebeater

  • if you watch this and dont feel sad, and i am even gonna say have a tear. your completely dead inside.

  • His face does not match his voice.

  • this might be a dumb question, but what happened to the children? he said that the tide came in and swept the three into the ocean, but that sounds like a metaphor more than a fact...

  • @agenuinewannabe its basically saying that "the tide" meaning society "swept the 3 into the ocean" meaning the craziness of the world that thier mom could no longer protect them from cause "she was bed ridden by her ex lover" meaning that she was so caught up in her ex that she didn't realize she was neglecting them..that's why they "would never live past the age of 15" cause by then without the guidance of their mom they got caught up in the true obscurity of the world and all of its pressures

  • @soccerandparamore4ev so they died?

  • @1tough0reo no, not literally. Due to their mother's neglect and failure to teach them wrong from right and ability to protect them from the worlds craziness they got caught up in all of its pressures. They were exposed to the harsh reality of life at such a young age...essentially "killing" their childhood, youth and innocence. That's where the line "They'd never live past the age of 15 due to neglect fromt their mother who was bed ridden by her ex lover" come from.

  • @soccerandparamore4ev thanks im glad you said that because i really needed a piece by piece examination of the lyrics...

  • @dragonlance667

That meaning behind the lyrics is one of the most important parts of the song you fucking moron. Could you get any stupider you fucking retarded piece of shit?

  • @soccerandparamore4ev Thats a very literal response to the lyrics, what could its deeper meaning be?

  • @TheFunkyMuff1n It's a story within a song. It has it's literal meaning and then it's up to the individual to decipher it in there own special way.

  • @soccerandparamore4ev ur actually 100% wrong. the ocean stole them and ate them. mother nature is a bitch

  • @soccerandparamore4ev haha no,,her kids got swept into the ocean because "the tide" came in and killed them thats why there are foot prints in the sand by the waves and her mother was to busy worrying about her "lovers" thats what the song is about...not trying to be mean juss sayin the truth

  • @soccerandparamore4ev theres no real definition to the song, it is whatever you take away from it.

  • @soccerandparamore4ev you explained it best of all

  • @invisiblebunny219 thank you :)

  • @soccerandparamore4ev awesome.. I was thinking sort of the same thing.

  • oh man, i remember this song!

  • @Nicole3900 youre dumb. youre taking paraphrasing to a whole new level that only females can somehow justify in their own eyes. you turned "man up" into some outrageous belief that it means dont show emotion? all its saying is crying is for gays, and woman"PERIOD"

  • Great song, poor video.

  • the girl of my dreams showed me this song

  • @dragonlance667 Very weird, same here :P

  • @dragonlance667 same

  • inb4 skrillex remix

  • It seems like I spend a lot of my spare time missing you :S

  • @codywhyatt7 acoustic?

  • What guitar is he playing in the video ?

  • Just a question, is he related to the guy from Matchbox Twenty?

  • Who is watching this in any year that is not 2011??

    Anyone? No? That's what I thought. -.-

  • @PecanIceCream13 I think it's Vada. The movie My Girl has a chick with the same name. I'm naming my little girl that when I have one because of that movie lol. But I think I'm gonna spell it Vayda.

  • @xolilwindmill Just make sure your kid doesn;t have like.. bad Asthma or soemthing.. breathing heavy and being named "Vayda" is kinda mean.. o.o

  • darn this relates to me so much. I was emotional destroyed similair to them. I use to be happy all the time, but now i'm just despressed and angry at my parents. *sigh* just have to live for the moment.

  • Good songg right huurrr<3

  • @Smexieshelbie100 here *

  • i love this song. <3

  • "they never lived past the age of 15" - i think because of the parents fighting and getting themselves lost in that the kids lost their childhood from there on. i don't think the actually died, just a part of them. good song either way :D

  • @shadowavenger777 Actually I think the song is about how the parents were fighting so the kids went to the beach and ended up drowning because the parents weren't watching them

  • @shadowavenger777 nice theory you could be right, it's probably sadder that, way because in reality that's what happens they say children who grow up in dysfunctional families that fathers. mothers leave, are more "messed up" than those who's parents actually die, so i understand what you mean, pretty sad either way great song

  • I thought that they do get taken out by the waves something like the little girl went in the older kids went after her and they all drowned in the tide and the parents were too busy being self absorbed to notice their kids weren't safe.

  • @PecanIceCream13 I always thought it was with a "d", spelled "Vaida" or something like that.

  • @PecanIceCream13 or veda..

  • 149 people were swept into the ocean

  • This song sucks weens,

  • i dont understand the ending bcuz a wav cant come up onto the beach and take a teen age a 12 year old and a 10 year old y didnt they swim or idk run? no wave is that bid unless in a tropical storm in wich case the was none.....

  • @SuperKittycatcutie the waves are a representation of the parents' fighting pulling the family apart. The parents lost their children because of all the pain they caused them... but thats just my opinion. All i know is they didnt literally get taken by the waves

  • @1joelypoley Different theory could be that the incoming wave is symbolizing their upcoming "hard life". I mean with 15 your childhood is over and so maybe the waves are ripping them away out of their childhood and the parents didn't notice how fast they were growing up and left them all alone at the age of 15 'cause they were "busy" in fighting each other instead of being there for their kids.

  • anyone notice that dade's hair dosnt actualy dance it dosnt even move and veronica dosnt lick her lips nor dose the mom *wisper quietly* she shouts... good song thought

  • sounds like fun :D

  • I listened to this back in about 2005/2006 i think, and fell in love with it, so nice hearing it again, Nostalgia is nice but brings tears to my eyes. :(

  • Their first album is so sad, it makes my stomach turn in a goodish way.

  • i listening to stuff like ofwgkta but i could never turn down the chance to listen to the spill canvas...

  • i luv luv luv this song lolz

  • lol you can steel shits goin down when he gets the wife beater top out ;)

  • this song is amazing!!!

  • I love this song.. <3

  • Here comes the tears.

  • Can't remember how many times this song made me cry

  • Is semen and tears a bad mixture?

  • @Phobia771 Haha. Not at all(: this made me laugh.

  • @Phobia771 of course not haha

  • Ya I hate songs about children drowning too. I'd much rather pretend the video is a metaphor for life when it's not.

  • fuck the video, love the music

  • this was the lovesong ("lieblingslied" in german) of my first girlfriend, so i like that too... everytime i hear this song, i remember the time ... it was wonderfull

  • I swear... Like.. the song it self was wonderful... I didn't ever take it literally but this music video gave me cold chills.

  • And there's Darth...VAYDA

  • @AhOmELeSsChild DAY = MADE.

  • @AhOmELeSsChild I named my baby girl Veda after this song and I call her Darth Veda all the time, hahaha!

  • the words are very sad but they could of did the vid a lil different probally would of made a big difference

  • metaphor*

  • Anybody that agrees or likes that 2nd most liked comment about this video being "literal" is an idiot. Its called a matephor. The video is still about them being caught up in life, but with no one to guide them, so they lead poor lives. Its not about them literally drowning from a tide. You cant show what they meant in a video, so they show it from a metaphorical viewpoint.

  • I have these lyrics tattooed in my arm, and i will never regret them. my way of life.

  • i love when feeling comes through the song

and this very song is the absolute definition of that

    TSC forever <3

  • I can't stop listening to this!

  • I love this song, but the end confuses me. Do the kids all run away, or all die? I've never understood it.

  • @ShainaKidd it says the tide swept them into the ocean and they didn't live past the age of 15 (I assume that's veronica's age) so that sounds to me like they went out when she was passed out and they drowned

  • @ShainaKidd I think it's more of a metaphor that their childhood 'died', they had to watch over their bed ridden mother and never got the chance to be children.

  • If you don't like this video then nothing against you but i know that 1,330,605 people cried to it and that the 148 of you don't understand the meaning and won't admit it

  • @KinzieFilms Well. The song DOES specifically say that they *died*. As good of a metaphor as it makes, I don't think you quite saw it literal enough. More of a "don't know what you got til it's gone" kind of song, not a story of life. If he didn't go out of his way to say that they "didn't live past the age of 15 due to neglect of their bedridden mother," I would totally agree with your interpretation. But he kind of spells it out. Thoroughly.

  • My friend does such a good cover of this :)

  • I luff this song

  • who else doesnt give a flying fuck what year there watching this in

  • @ploper7 i know obviously if your making a comment we know what year it is that you made it..

  • I got a goose bump, the first time at ''Heaven's not a place that you go when you die.

It's that moment in life when you actually feel alive''

The second time there came a little tear...and...I'm male. :'D

  • @TheInfoTV You need to man up then you faggot.

  • @CallardSince93 I don't think you would say it when I would stay in front of you ;D

  • @TheInfoTV Ignore that idiot who said to "man up." Real men cry. I'm a girl and I'd rather a guy who showed emotion and cared than a guy who was apathetic about everything and never laughed, cried, frowned, nor smiled. That'd not only be concerning but just plain boring. And - might I add - you have lovely taste in music.

  • Veronica!!!

  • a few months ago a girl showed me this song. she said it was her favorite. i thought it was alright and didnt really think about it until a few months later.

the girl became one of my bestfriends and one night she opened up to me..... she sent me this song again..... it all makes sense.....

i cant listen to this song without crying knowing what it stands for to her

  • like if your watching this in 2011<3

  • @KennaMatta that is the most stupid thing i have ever seen

  • I just got chills.

  • @CrayonsrwashablexD basically everyone who is watching it from this day forth until 2012 comes around? :L

  • @TheElectricfish1001 Meh just got bored :L

  • @CrayonsrwashablexD

Actually I'm watching this video in the year Five Billion and afterwards I'm going to go watch the Earth be destroyed by the expanding sun. :D

  • @xxMCRA7Xxx May I join you? :D

  • @CrayonsrwashablexD Fuck that it's 1995 here

  • 145 people eat kittens

  • @LyricsLady45 I am a proud member of one of those 145

  • @WillyumV3 146 now :)

  • I love the spill canvas!! I miss music like this...there needs to be more. I also think that say anything and spill canvas fans are some of the deepest out there. And i know that by saying what im about to say, i will make some people mad. But Im doing it for the couple that will give me a chance. If you guys get the time, try and search "THE ELECTRIC SHOES YOU AND YOUR BOYFRIEND" Its my band and i dont want money, i just want to have people hear my music.Im sorry to bother some of you.-Respect

  • I believe, that jesus speaks through us. cant you see this?

  • @ChadwickMichaelWill impeding on our free will there

  • Why the fuck is there nothing like this on MTV now? It's nothin gbut catchy pop songs for people to dance to. All flash and no talent.

  • Ok. The song is about the mother, She was dealing with an abusive husband and neglected her kids. The beach is a metaphor for 'the edge', they were never on the beach - they were living their lives. They're growing up, they're different ages, Dade is the oldest, he's seen it all happen, rationalised and his mom gives the advice. Vada is the youngest, too innocent to understand, and Veronica is the middle, adolescent. Now - the first part "Wondering what love is" is the example set by his (cont)

  • @JackFrawley101

mother and father as to what love is - he tells the story of the breakdown of the marriage. Veronica and Veda show the effects on the kids. The Tide is a metaphor for the kids being lost to the evils of the world. Drugs, alcohol and the likes.

  • Wow, I haven't gotten chills from a song in a long time...

  • This song blows

  • @WillyumV3 you blow big harry man balls so i guess you would know what blowing it.

  • @DeadJustBecause Joke 1: Who's Harry? Joke 2: "Man balls" Thank god not womens balls. Joke 3: I said the song blows, never brought up anything about penis/testicles, who's gay now faggot? Joke 4: Your entire comment.

  • @WillyumV3 joke 4 is the funniest

  • 144 people don't have their volume up.

  • I hate the new Spill Canvas. I'm telling poseidon to call in The Tide to sweep me away so I can have that Self-Conclusion feeling to be Staplegunned and All Over You, so when I take a Polygraph, Right Now your Bracelets I gave you will tell you I don't have Low Fidelity

  • 144 people are pretty much insane.

  • What a lovely song about a tragic fact.

  • Love this song, but you've gotta be pretty fucking retarded at the age of 15 to not realise you're being swept away by the ocean....

  • @sph91 I don't think you get it, is about the kids killing themselves, they did it on purpose. since there mom wasn't taking care of them and she said love wasn't real, they killed them selves

  • @dextertetsumi to be fair you're right, yeah i didn't think about it that way, but their life didn't seem dire enough to top themselves for :/

  • @sph91 i do agree with that...

  • @sph91 Umm.. they didn't really get swept away, the song is a metaphor.

  • love this song

  • This is beautiful.

  • I miss the tide to all my de buddies:(
