@undeathguppie Na, its not a nazi song. Its a song before WWII. And it was most used by the Wehrmacht. Waffen SS had mostly their own songs. But most of the marching songs have nothing to do with WWII. Like this one, some just are jokes about something:)

See, "funken" means "sparks" in German; and radio waves are often depicted as sparks emanating from a radio mast, thus: "Funker Soldaten" = "Radio soldiers" or Signal Corps. The "Di-dah-di-dit, di-dah-dit dit" stands for the initials of the formal title of the service, L. N. E. Don't remember the German words that go with thse letters, but that's the explanation.

I think they maybe did 50% of the fighting, maybe less if you count the battle against Japan.

Maybe, but the huge recources the Soviets had at their disposal, plus the huge terrain being covered and the harsh weather during fall and winter would eventually wear the Werhmacht down.

They might have had a chance of winning if the German High Command had been able to apply a different startegy, perhaps 1 push towards Moscow instead of 3 axis of attack, which split up their troops too much.

And of course count the loose cannon Hitler the German High Command had to deal with.

I must recant. Funkerlied not written with specific designation for the radio ops, it was later adopted as their lied from the lines that mimic morse code. Sorry about the initial error.

My enthusiasm for it , however, remains undiminished. Also hear the original on you tube. Always a delight as well.

Let me shed some light. Leave it to the German military to come up with songs for almost every position in the ranks. Funkerlied iis one of my faves since it speaks to one my interests as a Ham Radio operator. This tune was written for those in the area of communications. Flute echoes mimic teletype and morse code vocalized: dit da dit dit dit da dit dit . sings of letters and messages to and from home and loved ones and still used by Bundeswehr. Cool and mod version-love it.

Many German people were more sympathetic to Jews than you probably realize, but what could they do? Getting caught helping Jews would mean certain execution or sent off to a concentraion camp. Most German military culture dated from Prussian or Imperial German times not from the Nazis and alot of those songs, tradtitions and so on still carry on in the modern Bundeswehr. For example did u know they still goosestep? :)

Bundeswehr is just an American puppet army. The Nationalen Volksarmee was the last true German army; they kept the traditions alive while USA destroyed the West German's culture. I do love this song.
