  • what bis the song..the original thx!

  • @cleric022684 First tune - Albatros by Fleetwood Mac. Second tune - Horizons by Steve Hacket (Genesis).

  • @Dividedhead thank you really enjoy your videos, just joined madmodder because your links to there, is it your forum?

  • @cleric022684 No problem. Wrote that quick before work this morning. Little short and sharp. Not usually that way.

Madmodder is great. Not mine, run by a friend on the other side of the pond. You will find lots of useful info there and plenty of nice people :-)

I'll possibly talk to you within the pages of madmodder?

    Ralph.

  • @Dividedhead how come you don't monetize the videos? it takes a time to make them, do you work as machinist or is it your hobby, is it possible that you had some videos on instructables, I'm not sure how did I came across your videos, but I'm glad i did.

  • nice work good video i see everyones a crytic lol

  • @stevemostwanted Thank you.

Not everyone.... But quite a few on this video. Don't know why? Maybe it's the sparks?

I've still yet to solve problems with this project. I haven't got that press any more. But I do have the loan of a hydraulic one. Still got the punch and it's die.

Eventually I'll get a round tuit!

  • nice tool for your press ;)

  • Maybe if you had used cooling the piece wouldn't expand during the work and you would had a more accurate result.

    no ?

  • @michaelovitch The aim was for 49mm and I got 48.85mm = 0.15mm out! Not too bad since it was set using a vernier on the tool set to 24.5mm. I think cooling was a minor factor.

Flood cooling is not an option in my workshop and I can't afford mist cooling at the moment. Hence carbide tips!

The tool and it's counterpart worked to a fashion. But it remains an ongoing project.

One day I will get it done and show it all working..... one day!

  • @Dividedhead

It's more accurate than my hand grinder yet ! lol

i didn't know mist coolig existed.

maybe you can do it with a carburator jet or similar quirter and some compressed air ?

The polishing was faulty on the accuracy here lol

  • Was that 'Albatross'? Great video!

  • @zapwatt Yes, that was indeed Albatross :-)

  • '

    look alike a hitch ball

  • I don't think it's supposed to spark :P did you need a sharper bit?

  • Cool I didn't know you also had round tables for lathe, I only thought you have them for mill machines.

Btw wouldn't it be much faster if you just used an selfmade radius hss insert?

  • @Th3dutch Yep, a nice tool to make and use :-)

Do you mean make a HSS form tool? That would mean grinding a perfect radius of ~25mm into a large chunk of HSS!!!

Then there is the possibility of major chatter in use when trying to remove so much material.... You would probably have to cut steps into the workpiece to remove as much material as possible then use the form tool to remove all the little steps.

I'd much rather use this method myself. So much more versatile :-)

  • thanks for the demo, but how would one machine a matching concave into a block of ali? could you simply turn the ball turner 180 degrees and use it in the opposite direction?

  • @skyrocketpuke I don't think I replied to this?

I've made a socket for this part using a form tool in Ali. (I should have made the video showing it!)

The radius turner is limited buy the throat of the tool tip to upright. I've yet to figure out a way of turning an accurate internal radius to match items such as the one in this video.

Due to lack of necessity I have not put much time into that.

If you want to see how I made the other half to this I can probably edit a vid' together?

  • @Dividedhead

thanks for the reply, 8 month wait not bad! lol

ive seen a picture of an matching outer and inner radius machined into ali on the pyrobin site, where it was made for a former to make paper firework shell hemis, so it can be done just wondering how? regards chris

  • @skyrocketpuke Sorry.... So slow on that one!??

I'll mail you a link to a few pic's so you can see how I made the socket with the help of a friend on his machines.

    Ralph.

  • Awesome work, I need to look through the rest of your videos now : )

    5stars

  • Thank you, I see from a quick look at your videos why you were here looking at this.... Very cool works your producing there :-)

I'll pay a visit to your site later too.

Hope you liked some of my other stuff?

    Ralph.

  • @Dividedhead Thanks, Last month I needed some guide rollers with a 7/8" radius through one edge, I ended up making a radius cutter to finish them. I wish I had seen your videos first. Mine worked but yours look really nice. Your other stuff it epic. I am hoping to have a nice lathe one day and a mill to go with it, for now I have a cheap HF model. Who knows maybe the cheap stuff is forcing me to learn more? Anyway I look forward to watching all your videos. Thanks LM

  • dude your a pro with that thing that was awesome!!!

  • Thank you.... I have had a fair bit of practice with it over the months :-)

Still yet to put all this work to it's correct application!!

  • So nice!!

  • Glad you like it :-)

  • I like the tune too. How is the pressing going? I would imagine it's hard to keep wrinkles out of the sheet metal. Seems like the sheet metal would need to be very well annealed too.

  • It has been a little hit and miss! This is all experimental for me.

Wrinkles, yes, lots! lots of annealing and pressing while very hot!

Still managed to get a couple of viable near hemispheres out of it. The project has hit the back burner and been assigned "roundtuit" status!

  • i have this machine, too. but only for wood. for iron it s too expensive :( but where are u get this machine?

5***** well done and great idea. i was make me this press with wood and so on, it works good, but it isn t realy firm

    [sorry for my english^^]

  • The machine you have... Is it the radius turner/lathe or the press?

The radius turner I made from free plans by "Steve Bedair"

The press was a very well received gift :-)

Don't worry about your English.... Better than my German!!

Thank you for the 5***** :-)

  • Awsome! I work at a titanium plant and decided to make myself a titanium ring. I went and got a mini 7 x 10 and did it. I have been doing this for about six months and have fell in love with machining! I am eager to learn as much as I can and that is the reason I subscribed. I will be watching out for vew vids. Thanks.

  • Glad you like the video.

I have no idea what and when the next video will be?

There are many cool videos on youtube though :-)

    Titanium.... Fun to machine eh?!

    Good luck with the machining.

Thank you for the sub' and the comment.

    Ralph.

  • what do u do with it

  • I've not yet got that part working correctly.....(lots of other projects on the go!)

It's to put into a press for creating a hollow ball.

Proving much harder than you might think!!

    Ralph.

  • Great work as always DH and a super video, I could watch that all day!!

I'm really looking forward to seeing the parts made with this tool and if they are for the project I think they are then the final result will be superb.

  • Hi there Mr Squirrel :-)

I'm being a little slow with this and one other project at the mo' .... Too many other things getting in the way!

I'll have to edit up the other video's I have for this project soon.

It is for what you think, I'm thinking.... We shall let the videos show it being made at their own pace ;-)

Glad you like the vid :-)

    Ralph.

  • That's a version of Lover's Leap I've never heard before.

  • The guitarist can be found on youtube search for Andy Martin and select the chestertourist.... video. the video is shaky and poorish but you can see the man playing in one of the places he stands.

Glad you like the tunes :-)

    Ralph.

  • So you are making a shell drawing die? i made a quick and dirty one once for making candle holder bases. It was for a local artist lady who made nice candle holders from small shaft and the drawn cups to hold the candles.

  • Very true.... It's all in the process of being figured out.. I've only recently been given the press and wanted to use it :-)

There is much more to follow...

I like the idea of the candle holders!!

Another project to chalk up on the list!!

    Ralph.
