The European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) issued an Airworthiness Directive (AD) Friday on 20 Airbus A380 after new cracks were found in wing brackets.
Obviously the A380 is the best. You'd have to be an idiot to even try and compare the two. 747's were good, but it's an old design and they're crap now. The A380 is massive, quiet, fuel efficient and is well designed. @FSXGuy1 you're complete dumbass too. Planes aren't made to look nice, they're made to fly...and the fact that Boeing can't make a full double deck aircraft with the 747 design says it's shit. Also you say the 747 is usefull, all aircraft are dimwit.
This BOACMach2 idiot thinks I have several youtube user accounts like he does. Don't need to, I get my info from the airlines and Airbus and hey the A380 is just not doing to good !!! End of story . BOACMach2 thinks insulting people and telling stories will sell more A380's for Airbus but it won't. And people do not listen to his bullshit, he is not affilliated with Airbus Ind. in any way shape or form so do not hate Airbus because of the crap this man spreads
Airbus has 236 orders for the A380 and have delivered 54 aircraft as of August 31st 2011 ( And they are all 20 tons over the predicted empty weight Airbus first told customers it would weigh. BOACMach2 and Whiteria have both told us they have sold alot more but hey people will go with what Airbus says. Now that I am involved in this I know they will get mad and either attack me personally or Boeing because I called them on this
The A380's in service are putting out between 101g and 109g of CO2 emmissions per passenger mile at current and this is above industry standards and a far cry from the 75g of CO2 per passenger mile that Airbus originally forecast. Partly due too 500 plus seat aircraft only averaging 80% capacity on long range flights. THE ABOVE STATEMENT IS STRAIGHT FROM Airbus.com
@prohelipilot1 Buddy, you're being economic with the truth on this. The Telegraph news article your data is drawn from explains exactly why the emissions are higher per passenger. As pointed out in the article, it has everything to do with passenger configurations of the various operators and nothing to do with the efficiency of the a/c itself. Clearly, if an operator trades seats in economy class for fewer, higher revenue earning business and premier class seats the footprint increases.
@USNemesis What telegraph news article are you talking about? I got my info right of Airbus.com so when you argue with me you are arguing with Airbus, but then again what does Airbus know about building commercial airliners that you don't know? Your the man, numero uno, you know more about this than all the commercial aircraft manufacturers. YOU SHOULD START BUILDING AIRLINERS RIGHT NOW WHILE YOU STILL KNOW IT ALL
@prohelipilot1 If you Google "A380 Carbon Emissions" you'll find an article from the highly respected Daily Telegraph. I suggest you read it as it’ll fill in the gaps you've conveniently missed or overlooked. Buddy, it's one thing posting throwaway "headlines" but do it from a position of knowledge, not ignorance. All you've done is proven how little you really know and I see nothing on Airbus's site that specify the figures you refer to. Maybe you can tell me where these figures are.
@USNemesis I agree with you. It's a good article which explains the effect of C02 emissions when airlines configure their aircraft for premium passenger service (business and first class). More passenger comforts, more space for each passenger which means less passenger capacity overall. This is of coruse offset with much higher airfares.
@whitireia It's long been the case that there's no real money in economy class. it's tolerated at best, but essential for cash flow. Airlines now figure it's better to focus on high quality business class, as is the case with Korean & Singapore A380s and many airlines are refurbishing 777s similarly. Premium economy will become the new economy as long haul will focus on comfort, not numbers. As we've seen already, 1st class has been cut back in size but revenue is pretty much the same.
@prohelipilot1 Trying to patronise me is just pathetic and smacks of desperation. It's a wonder anyone could take your comments seriously. The use of capitals shows lack of control and a juvenile attitude on your part. It's the kind of thing a 12 year would do and you ought to be embarrassed by that piece of crap. Grow up and argue from a standpoint of knowledge, not ignorance. Then you wont look an asshole.
Just came off Airbus.com ( their website ) they state that as of the end of August 2011 there are 236 orders for the A380 and 54 deliveries. So BOACMach2, USNemisis and Dartygyn are all full of shit. Airbus is not going to deflate the sales figures you idiots. Airbus says it needs to sell 552 A380s to break even and more to turn a profit on the aircraft and that figure increases as existing aircraft develope more problems
@prohelipilot1 From what I read here and based on your comments, its clear you are the one who's "full of shit". Not only do you have a real lack of knowledge and understanding of the aviation business and the economics surrounding it, you're in need of some manners. Take your juvenile behavior elsewhere.
@prohelipilot1 Seems you got issues with the A380 for some reason. Did you get a bum meal on one of their aircraft? As for the 380, all operators seem happy with the product and most are on record as saying the a/c has exceeded their expectations, both efficiency wise and in terms of passengers reaction/response. Emirates, Singapore Airlines and Qantas all report passengers ask for the 380 ahead of other fleet models. Suggest you read "Leeham News & Comment" (7/710) or Emg.rs (8/23/10)
@USNemesis You tell more stories than anyone in the history of mankind , unfortunatly all your bullshit and lies has not managed to muster up one sale for Airbus and the A380 is a sales flop, Why because it does NOT live up to its expectations. I don't hold it against you that you are mad at me because the A380 is a disaster
@prohelipilot1 Are you deliberately being dumb or just stupid generally? You think you know better than airlines and aviation or business journalists when it comes to assessing a/c? I have just referred you to sources which state how well the A380 has been received. Have the common courtesy to read these before passing comment back. If you can't do that because you fear the outcome, then head off and take your nonsense with you. Don’t waste my time with your skewed bias.
@USNemesis No I don't think I know better than the airlines that is why I listen to what they have to say insted of listening to fans like you who try to bullshit me
@prohelipilot1 Buddy, You're nothing more than a paper bag filled with hot air. Your points on emissions are taken out of context and are thus misleading. Airbus do not post specific emissions figures from their website, the source you say you use. You make throwaway comments on the 380s efficiency & so-called problems, which goes against the weight of opinion in the aviation press as has been pointed out to you already. Again you lie. I get along fine with people but pure ignorance I don't buy
@USNemesis Unfortunetely they do have it on their website, The website is probably to complicated for a guy who only looks at pictures like you. Don't accuse me because you look like an idiot . Blame that one on rhe fact that you open your mouth without thinking
@prohelipilot1 If you want independent verification on emissions, fuel efficiency, problems etc. you'd never go to the manufacturer's site, (your source, right?). They're in the business of selling their product & will never say anything detrimental, be they Boeing, Airbus, Embraer & so on. All the sources I have given you are respected, independent bodies. If you fear reading them because they'll undermine your case, too bad. I'll take the truth over rhetoric anytime. Quit your bullshit
@USNemesis Will you stop with the crap and the insults. All your insults have not sold any A380's for Airbus. It still stands at 236 sold and that is not a good number. You might get along better with people if you stop the bullshit and the insults
@prohelipilot1 For the record, I have no direct interest in Airbus nor Boeing. I consider them both excellent manufacturers with quality products for the most part. I'm as patriotic an American as they come and believe in the power of free enterprise & competition. That's what drives business and makes for better, safer products. You come across as if an Airbus bee has stung your ass so you're out to seek revenge. By the same token, your ignorance & malice won't stop Airbus selling a/c.
@prohelipilot1 Whats your problem? My stating facts is not showing bias. If I say the Boeing 777 is just about the safest aircraft in the sky, based on statistics, does that make me biased in favor of Boeing? No, its just stating the facts. You seem to have a problem getting the facts right about the 380 and spend a lot of time on these sites talking nonsense about the a/c, its efficiency, its emissions, sales etc. You do so from ignorance, and you're wrong. You, buddy, are the biased one.
@USNemesis Why do all you A380 fans deny the fact that tha A380 sales are poor, and better yet why do you have to lie about the STATISTICS asshole are right there on the Airbus website, Do you have a problem reading, The planes sales are doing poor and all your fucking whinning about it will not change the facts
@prohelipilot1 but A380 sales are better than the 747-8I arn't they? Airbus seem to have solved the initial production problems. Just need to sell a few more. Last I heard Boeing will need to sell 1,500 787s to reach profitability due to all the set backs and production problems they've encountered.
Aircraft manufacturer is risky business to say the least.
@prohelipilot1 777 was the right sized aircraft at the right time for the market and offers superior economics over it's closest competitor the A340. 777 is definitely one of my favorites. Love those engines.
@USNemesis Again you have just spewed bullshit out of your own mouth , You have never referred me to anything. And your commnts and the way you talk pretty much indicate that you are BOACmach2 or his brother
@prohelipilot1 the problem is you're logic is blinded by your faith.
USNemisis is right quote "Airlines now figure it's better to focus on high quality business class, as is the case with Korean & Singapore A380s and many airlines are refurbishing 777s similarly."
Although this promotes higher carbon emissions, it generates better profits for the airlines.
@MrWillydoit You also act in a cowardly manner. Great characteristic! When someone gives you up to date, sourced evidence on the 2 airliners, you just choose to ignore the bits you don't like and think you can con people into believing you are right. This is why you, LottoLoser and julesjoker (the Professor) get the pi*s taken. I could easily put together a better argument in favour of Boeing over Airbus but I detest ignorance and liars more. So if you want to continue, bring it on, ok?
@MrWillydoit Sonny, I just sit back and watch the likes of you, LottoLoser and julesjoker makes idiots of yourselves, running around YT posting your crap. Cry? I just laugh at your puerile attempts to do everything in your power to ridicule Airbus. You're just another ill-educated, ignorant redneck with limited mental capacity to handle the fact Airbus are currently the world's premier manufacturer in terms of sales. Facts don't lie and all the nonsense you come out with doesn't change that.
@MrWillydoit You refer to maturity? How about the numerous "thumbs-up" for any comment jules, you or prohelipilot. That is just laughable! You really think people are going to sit back and say "Gee, those guys are getting all those votes..what they say must be right". Are you some sort of Mothers's Union, sitting around back slapping mixed with self-congratulation. What a group of jokers! What's more pitiful is to see you "mark as spam" anything you don't like the sound of ie whitireia, k0nn0r
@MrWillydoit It's difficult to take someone like you seriously. If you want to pass comment about me, do me the courtesy of a "reply" not a general comment. That just tells me you're acting in a cowardly fashion. It's patently clear the only person who's under fire from me is julesjoker for her class 1 ignorance of the business of aviation and the seemless stream of lies in respect of event dates and mistruths generally. As you're such a smart cookie, you can recount the names of all I attack?
@whitireia When you fill the A380 tanks with fuel it can't carry passengers either. I bet if they tried to sell the Spruce Goose now they would have more takers than Airbus has for the A380. Sorry but the A380 is the fastest plane ever to go from drawing board to obsolete in the history of aviation
@prohelipilot1 I disagree. I don't think Howard Hughes would've sold 230 odd Spuce Goose's.
I also disagree that A380 is obsolete. It is making the Boeing offering obsolete due to the fact that it can be stretched further (as opposed to the 747 airframe) and is more economical than the 747-8.
@whitireia It ha also been for sale for 10 1/2 yrs and 236 aircraft in 10 1/2 yrs just downfight sucks, Everyone knows this but you. I am guessing that is why your a musician and are not in the aviation industry
@prohelipilot1 we'll know for sure if the A380 was a success or failure from a business perspective in about another 10 - 15years. The A380 was always a long term strategy for Airbus due to its limited market and application. Still, the A380 is an engineering marvel for all the world to see that offers superior economics and comfort next to it's competitors.
@whitireia Taking the gamble with the 380 may not pay off financially in the end but there's no doubting its popularity among passengers and the operators. I've traveled SQ business class 380 and will be taking Korean's from LAX in the next couple of weeks. Its a great a/c from a passenger's viewpoint and it doesn't surprise me the operators are real happy with the product. BA chose this a/c over the 747 to counter the problem of growing passenger numbers at many slot restricted airports
@USNemesis If it does not pay off financially then it is a failure you dumbass, Aircraft manufacturers are in business to make money. But I understand your from a country where it is popular for the governments to bail out companies that are a financial loss. Basically your an idiot
@julesgymnast Jules...you really must put dates and sources with your information...Dear oh dear! For the benefit of others, jules is pretty economic with the truth and prone to lapses of memory. Barbara Kracht's comments were published in "Dominican Today" & dated JULY 24th 2006. (That's 15 months prior to the aircraft's entry into service) You REALLY MUST remember not to mislead people jules...it could make you look real stupid! Apologies, I HAS made you look real stupid
@julesgymnast Face the Facts...Airbus outsells Boeing year on year. So you're suggesting your smarter than the buyers from these airlines...errr don't think so! You stick to kissing Boeing's ass, everyone will be happy. After all they have a great selection of modern aircraft. Why worry about Airbus? Do you see yourself as some kind of evangelist?..lol! You're worried because you see Airbus easing ahead of Boeing and that gets you right in the gut doesn't it. Jealousy, plain & simple.
Dartagyn you get all mad like the BOACMach2 guy and you call people names. The A380 is a plane with a lot of problems. Your personal attacks on people who seem to acknowledge that are a clear indication that you believe these people but you just do not want to admit it
@prohelipilot1 if A380 is an a/c with a lot of problems then what is the 787 and 747-8 which has not even reached EIS status after years upon years of delays and piss-poor excuses.
Doomed to failure are words that spring to mind using your rational...
@whitireia The A380 was in design stages in 1992 and the 747-8 and 787 are products of this century so of course they will be later. Bottom line is when you market a product without properly testing it ( ie A380 ) you have alot of problems and alot of pissed off customers. And that is exactly what Airbus has done, no aircraft in history has been delivered to customers with so many problems, And they aren't teething problems Emirates has said that
@prohelipilot1 the 747-8 and 787 have had significant delays there is no doubting that. I mean explain the pet names 7-late-7 or the 787 Nightmareliner?
If you can point me to a recent source of information something from 2011 saying that A380 customers are pissed off with Airbus then I stand to be corrected.
Until then, I will assume you are talking from a bias standpoint because you are either from America and see A380 as a threat or a Boeing fanboy.
@whitireia Maybe because they wanted to you know work out all the bugs. I mean really do we want them to be like McDonnell Douglas was with the DC-10 and rush it out with all kinds of problems?
I guess the problem is for the airlines who expected the aircraft earlier.
The thing is I love anything that flys whether it's a 747 or a A380 or even a Cessna. I'd jump to fly on anyone of these aircraft. What does bug however are people who don't like something because it's not from their country or because it was built in Europe or the USA.
Aircraft should be judged on its merits not country of origin. That's just silly behavior in my opinion.
@whitireia Oh I'm not judged here. I like both Boeing and Airbus. Though I'm a bit more of a Boeing person. If I ever had the the chance though I would like to fly in the A380. To be honest out side of the A380 and 747 and prehaps the A340 some of the Airbus and Boeing planes look the same to me. :)
@julesgymnast OK...you said this guy said Americans were "blowhards" and that America couldn't build good good aircraft. You posted that on my wall. He's denied using those words and when I put it to you, you ignored it. What I'm saying is where has this guy used the word "blowhards" about Americans and where has he actually said America can't build good aircraft? My bet is that he aint used these words but you prove me wrong. Don't go avoiding it like last time.
@julesgymnast Not only that, you conveniently avoid answering questions when put to you. The BOAC guy is right on with you. All you do is throw abuse but you can't back up any of your accusations with facts. The guy said you were a LIAR. I gotta agree with him 100%. Not only that, other people agree with him too. YOU are the prejudiced one. You can't even see that either which must be embarrassing. You are an absolute jerk and joke kid. No wonder the euros laugh at us. Well done you asshole!!
@julesgymnast Hello little miss COWARD and LIAR. You disgrace our nation with your crap talk. ANYONE READING THIS CAN HAPPILY VIEW MY CHANNEL WALL TO SEE WHAT A LIAR this kid is. Goes accusing other people of things but cant back them up. Not only me either, she's tried to make out other people are anti-American but cant prove it. You are just a li'l shiot stirrer girl. If you had a braincell It'd die of lonliness! Take your crap elsewhere and leave decent folk alone. You are one real dumbass!
@julesgymnast what has number of orders to do with the performance of 2 planes?? What prejudice are you talking of. You really do make us look stupid dontcha. Boeing sales of 747-800Is are way behind sales of A380. Those are the facts. The 747 has always been the gold standard for jumbo jets so its kinda embarrassing to see Airbus's first attempt at a jumbo make a mockery of the 800series. Things dont look good when our own national airlines won't even buy the home product. A380 wins...for now
The 748, though re-engineered, is hardly a competitor for the A380. In reality it will carry 380-405 passengers and the vast majority of airlines don't see the sense of buying it when the 777 is a better aircraft, offering greater flexibility and cargo carrying capacity. The VLA market satisfied by the A380 for the 450 seat plus market (excepting 407pax on Korean A380) leaving the 748I high and dry with very few customers. Boeing wasted their resources, with this rather than focusing on the 787
@pcdocter123 wrong! Boeing hasn't sold and built any 747-400s in the last 4 - 5 years. The order book doesn't lie either 33 747-8I sold vs 244 A380s sold.
The problem with the 747-8I is that they just stretched the existing old airframe (designed back in the 1960s) so it is using older technology vs the purpose built and all new A380 airframe which has been optimised for it's size and weight.
The 747-8I is like mutton dressed as lamb plain and simple. She's an old dog period!
As far as beauty is concerned 380 is nothing in front of 747,.....747 is the queen of sky, yeah it may be the point that 380 is more eficient or cost effective, but still lacks 100% o.k report as there are some technical errors, whereas 747 is the most widely sold commercial jet.
Aircraft sales are always the true litmus test. The 747-8I has 3 customers, the A380 has 19. Expect to see additional/top-up orders for the A380 at the Paris Air Show in June from Qatar Airways & Etihad, if press reports are to be believed. Cathay Pacific are rumoured to be close to ordering the A380 too.
Trying to figure out which airplane is most efficient is a lost cause. Too bad there isn't an objective standard---both manufacturers have liars in their marketing departments.
747 has been made for some real airlines (Iran Air, Pam Am etc). specially the SP version the main purpose to make SP was to got THR-JFK non-stop which they did and was successful.
i usually judge aircrafts by looks and i think 747 looks better than the a380 with the small upperdeck. of course, the a380 looks way cooler inside but really, cant you last a couple hours without a shower?
@Pvjinflight Amen to that comment. What is this fixation some people have with how an aircraft looks. I recall the 1st 747 being considered "vulgar" and the "ugly duckling" when sitting alongside a 707 in the late '60's. You can imagine the conversation between 2 businessmen on an A380.."Have you noticed how ugly this plane is?" Man replies.."I have to say I don't give a diddly squat but I hear there's a bar and shower on this one..."
Americans knocking the A380 are delusional,747 great plane now superceded by A380.50% more floor space, uses less fuel despite being way bigger, larger seats, bigger passenger storage compartments, higher cabin pressurization.Looking at size of 380 wingspan and fuselage the 747 is small by comparison.Has being widely reported that passengers who have flown on A380 request it on future long haul flights.747-great history but will be marginalized in future by A380.A380 King of skyes,747 Queen of skys
Hard to say which is better, different in they're own way but when the new 747-8i comes out then we will see. I've been on b747 & luved it but not yet a380 but I hope someday
B747 was the airliner that was designed on paper and a true testament to man's indomitable spirit to conquer the skies. A380 was designed on computer. We can say that machines built A380 but man built B747. I prefer B747!
747 for life homies...... airbus looks like some kind of fake as bird... like look at it for real man.....hehehe 747 is what it is......... king of the sky.
@whitireia ever heard of the 747-8? its a upgrade to the 747 which includes newer GENx GE engines which are ultraquiet and a brand new glass cockpit. With more range, more seating capability all in a smexy package so yeah... :D
If Boeing really want to compete with the A380 they need to come up with a new design. The 747 was a great plane and a huge advance in its time but now the 747-8 is just a modification to a 40 year old design. The A380 is a huge advance, 50% more floor space and the first double decker passanger airplane.
747-8 is a poor climber and will likely need a two step climb to reach cruise altitude unlike the A380 which can climb to cruise altitude in one step.
The 747-8 is more than likely the last derivitive of the 747 family due to physical design limits, where as the A380-800 is the first of the A380 series.
The A380 wing is designed for a further stretch version the A380-900 which will seat over 900 passengers in an all economy configuration.
You really think we'll see an A380 with 900 pass?Pure dream!Theorically only!
How many companies has bought it in this version?Almost nobody. The standard configuration is 555 pass.
I suggest you to read with more aptention Boeing site and you'll discover 747-8 is very different from 747-400 and it's a less expensive flying cost than A380.
@bufalobilll Boeing are dreaming harder than their Dreamliner.
Emirates, Lufthansa and British Airways have already stated that the A380 is more efficient than the 747-8.
Boeing have skewed the seating number for the 747-8 on their website to make it look more efficient than the A380. The 747-8 is likely to seat 405 passengers as opposed to their stated claim of 467 which is unrealistic if you take seating configurations used in service today.
@bufalobilll if Airbus used the same seating density that Boeing have in their 747-8I then the A380 would seat over 605 passengers.
There is more room period in the A380 (about 40% more room) than the 747-8.
I don't need to read bs marketing materials from either Boeing or Airbus - I would rather listen to the airlines that use (or will use) them commercially in service.
@bufalobilll you said "The new 747-8 has the Dreamliner technology and materials..."
Hardly - this is more a marketing ploy from Boeing. There is some technology from the 787 that has made it to 747-8 but mostly cosmetic. Most improvements have been to the interior and perhaps the composite wing, but in saying that the wing design was a compromise aswell and as such we have a poor climbing 747-8 which will need 2 or 3 step to get to cruise as opposed to A380 it can climb to cruise in one go.
@bufalobilll the 747 has enjoyed many years of sucess and was many years ahead of its time when it entered commercial service I agree.
Lufthansa however are also A380 customers with 15 on order and options for another 5 which hardly supports the 747-8 programme. I guess Lufthansa have missions that will be suitable for the smaller 747-8I.
@haga689 the 747 is only slightly faster in cruise.
747 cruise .855 MACH
A380 cruise .85 MACH
Overall though the A380 performs better becasue it can reach cruise altitude in one step. The 747 requires two or three steps before it can reach cruise altitude.
This means that the A380 will arrive at its destination before the 747.
The 747 is clearly owned in almost every comparison.
The only aspect 747 wins over A380 is cargo carrying capacity - apart from that A380 wins every other comparison
@piloty5 the 747-8 is not as efficient as the A380.
Boeing have inflated their performance projections by using seating standards used in the 1970s vs the very spacious A380.
Boeing say that the 747-8 can seat 467 pax and Airbus 525 for A380. In reality the 747-8 will seat about 400 pax, according to Lufthansa the first customer who said that is how they will configure their 747-8 which will give it similar standards to the A380.
Ahh... the Boeing 747... Boeing's symbol of amazingness (not excluding the 777, 787, 737, 767, 757) and high quality. The 747 is the Queen of the Skies, nothing can compare, except some of Boeing's other planes. The 747 has proved it's reputation, and it's a good and long-lasting one. Us Americans are proud that our own aviation manufacturing company can erect such a marvel. Aren't we, fellow Americans?!?
747 was a legend... but her era has passed... the a380 performs better in every way... its even better then the new 747-8... airbus went to the edges of the globe to build a better aircraft, which deserves credit
if u conider about da engineering boeing has the best engineering but if u want to see wich one is more comfortable and lighter i have to say air bus is awsome
but in the pilot eye boeing is better than a air bus
so wut i say is i prefer 747.but for the passangers 380 is better and more comfotable
The legendary 747 always shines as the queen of the sky...it will till the end of time. Other planes are good, the 380 is better, but the 747 is the best...!
Who cares about the music, like the uploader said there is a mute button! Why should a song you don't like matter for true aviation lovers?

Airbus has 236 orders for the A380 and have delivered 54 aircraft as of August 31st 2011 ( And they are all 20 tons over the predicted empty weight Airbus first told customers it would weigh. BOACMach2 and Whiteria have both told us they have sold alot more but hey people will go with what Airbus says. Now that I am involved in this I know they will get mad and either attack me personally or Boeing because I called them on this
prohelipilot1 5 months ago
The A380's in service are putting out between 101g and 109g of CO2 emmissions per passenger mile at current and this is above industry standards and a far cry from the 75g of CO2 per passenger mile that Airbus originally forecast. Partly due too 500 plus seat aircraft only averaging 80% capacity on long range flights. THE ABOVE STATEMENT IS STRAIGHT FROM Airbus.com
prohelipilot1 5 months ago
@prohelipilot1 Buddy, you're being economic with the truth on this. The Telegraph news article your data is drawn from explains exactly why the emissions are higher per passenger. As pointed out in the article, it has everything to do with passenger configurations of the various operators and nothing to do with the efficiency of the a/c itself. Clearly, if an operator trades seats in economy class for fewer, higher revenue earning business and premier class seats the footprint increases.
USNemesis 5 months ago 2
@USNemesis What telegraph news article are you talking about? I got my info right of Airbus.com so when you argue with me you are arguing with Airbus, but then again what does Airbus know about building commercial airliners that you don't know? Your the man, numero uno, you know more about this than all the commercial aircraft manufacturers. YOU SHOULD START BUILDING AIRLINERS RIGHT NOW WHILE YOU STILL KNOW IT ALL
prohelipilot1 5 months ago
@prohelipilot1 If you Google "A380 Carbon Emissions" you'll find an article from the highly respected Daily Telegraph. I suggest you read it as it’ll fill in the gaps you've conveniently missed or overlooked. Buddy, it's one thing posting throwaway "headlines" but do it from a position of knowledge, not ignorance. All you've done is proven how little you really know and I see nothing on Airbus's site that specify the figures you refer to. Maybe you can tell me where these figures are.
USNemesis 4 months ago
@USNemesis I agree with you. It's a good article which explains the effect of C02 emissions when airlines configure their aircraft for premium passenger service (business and first class). More passenger comforts, more space for each passenger which means less passenger capacity overall. This is of coruse offset with much higher airfares.
Makes sense.
whitireia 4 months ago
@whitireia It's long been the case that there's no real money in economy class. it's tolerated at best, but essential for cash flow. Airlines now figure it's better to focus on high quality business class, as is the case with Korean & Singapore A380s and many airlines are refurbishing 777s similarly. Premium economy will become the new economy as long haul will focus on comfort, not numbers. As we've seen already, 1st class has been cut back in size but revenue is pretty much the same.
USNemesis 4 months ago
@prohelipilot1 Trying to patronise me is just pathetic and smacks of desperation. It's a wonder anyone could take your comments seriously. The use of capitals shows lack of control and a juvenile attitude on your part. It's the kind of thing a 12 year would do and you ought to be embarrassed by that piece of crap. Grow up and argue from a standpoint of knowledge, not ignorance. Then you wont look an asshole.
USNemesis 4 months ago
Just came off Airbus.com ( their website ) they state that as of the end of August 2011 there are 236 orders for the A380 and 54 deliveries. So BOACMach2, USNemisis and Dartygyn are all full of shit. Airbus is not going to deflate the sales figures you idiots. Airbus says it needs to sell 552 A380s to break even and more to turn a profit on the aircraft and that figure increases as existing aircraft develope more problems
prohelipilot1 5 months ago

USNemesis 4 months ago 2

prohelipilot1 4 months ago
@prohelipilot1 but A380 sales are better than the 747-8I arn't they? Airbus seem to have solved the initial production problems. Just need to sell a few more. Last I heard Boeing will need to sell 1,500 787s to reach profitability due to all the set backs and production problems they've encountered.
Aircraft manufacturer is risky business to say the least.

whitireia 9 months ago
@whitireia When you fill the A380 tanks with fuel it can't carry passengers either. I bet if they tried to sell the Spruce Goose now they would have more takers than Airbus has for the A380. Sorry but the A380 is the fastest plane ever to go from drawing board to obsolete in the history of aviation
prohelipilot1 5 months ago
@prohelipilot1 I disagree. I don't think Howard Hughes would've sold 230 odd Spuce Goose's.
I also disagree that A380 is obsolete. It is making the Boeing offering obsolete due to the fact that it can be stretched further (as opposed to the 747 airframe) and is more economical than the 747-8.

prohelipilot1 4 months ago
@prohelipilot1 we'll know for sure if the A380 was a success or failure from a business perspective in about another 10 - 15years. The A380 was always a long term strategy for Airbus due to its limited market and application. Still, the A380 is an engineering marvel for all the world to see that offers superior economics and comfort next to it's competitors.
whitireia 4 months ago
@whitireia Taking the gamble with the 380 may not pay off financially in the end but there's no doubting its popularity among passengers and the operators. I've traveled SQ business class 380 and will be taking Korean's from LAX in the next couple of weeks. Its a great a/c from a passenger's viewpoint and it doesn't surprise me the operators are real happy with the product. BA chose this a/c over the 747 to counter the problem of growing passenger numbers at many slot restricted airports
USNemesis 4 months ago
@USNemesis If it does not pay off financially then it is a failure you dumbass, Aircraft manufacturers are in business to make money. But I understand your from a country where it is popular for the governments to bail out companies that are a financial loss. Basically your an idiot

whitireia 9 months ago 4
@whitireia The A380 was in design stages in 1992 and the 747-8 and 787 are products of this century so of course they will be later. Bottom line is when you market a product without properly testing it ( ie A380 ) you have alot of problems and alot of pissed off customers. And that is exactly what Airbus has done, no aircraft in history has been delivered to customers with so many problems, And they aren't teething problems Emirates has said that
prohelipilot1 9 months ago
@prohelipilot1 the 747-8 and 787 have had significant delays there is no doubting that. I mean explain the pet names 7-late-7 or the 787 Nightmareliner?
If you can point me to a recent source of information something from 2011 saying that A380 customers are pissed off with Airbus then I stand to be corrected.
Until then, I will assume you are talking from a bias standpoint because you are either from America and see A380 as a threat or a Boeing fanboy.
One or the other.

@whitireia Maybe because they wanted to you know work out all the bugs. I mean really do we want them to be like McDonnell Douglas was with the DC-10 and rush it out with all kinds of problems?
Epica124 6 months ago
@Epica124 fair comment.
That's just silly behavior in my opinion.
whitireia 6 months ago
@whitireia Oh I'm not judged here. I like both Boeing and Airbus. Though I'm a bit more of a Boeing person. If I ever had the the chance though I would like to fly in the A380. Boeing wasted their resources, with this rather than focusing on the 787
BOACMach2 9 months ago
@pcdocter123 wrong! Boeing hasn't sold and built any 747-400s in the last 4 - 5 years. The order book doesn't lie either 33 747-8I sold vs 244 A380s sold.
The problem with the 747-8I is that they just stretched the existing old airframe (designed back in the 1960s) so it is using older technology vs the purpose built and all new A380 airframe which has been optimised for it's size and weight.
The 747-8I is like mutton dressed as lamb plain and simple. She's an old dog period!

Aircraft sales are always the true litmus test. The 747-8I has 3 customers, the A380 has 19. A380 is better more efficient and all new.
747 is old decrepid and most unfashionable for the up and coming airlines.
Who wants to fly i nthe old 747 clap trap?
whitireia 1 year ago 2
@whitireia ever heard of the 747-8? its a upgrade to the 747 which includes newer GENx GE engines which are ultraquiet and a brand new glass cockpit. With more range, more seating capability all in a smexy package so yeah... :D
Soman74899829 1 year ago
If Boeing really want to compete with the A380 they need to come up with a new design. The 747 was a great plane and a huge advance in its time but now the 747-8 is just a modification to a 40 year old design. The A380 is a huge advance, 50% more floor space and the first double decker passanger airplane.
bucco1977 1 year ago
The 747-8 is just a warmed over 747-400.
The A380 wing is designed for a further stretch version the A380-900 which will seat over 900 passengers in an all economy configuration.
whitireia 1 year ago
@whitireia
You really think we'll see an A380 with 900 pass?Pure dream!Theorically only!
How many companies has bought it in this version?Almost nobody. The standard configuration is 555 pass.
I suggest you to read with more aptention Boeing site and you'll discover 747-8 is very different from 747-400 and it's a less expensive flying cost than A380.
bufalobilll 1 year ago
@bufalobilll Boeing are dreaming harder than their Dreamliner.
Emirates, Lufthansa and British Airways have already stated that the A380 is more efficient than the 747-8.
Boeing have skewed the seating number for the 747-8 on their website to make it look more efficient than the A380. The 747-8 is likely to seat 405 passengers as opposed to their stated claim of 467 which is unrealistic if you take seating configurations used in service today.
whitireia 1 year ago
@bufalobilll if Airbus used the same seating density that Boeing have in their 747-8I then the A380 would seat over 605 passengers.
There is more room period in the A380 (about 40% more room) than the 747-8.
I don't need to read bs marketing materials from either Boeing or Airbus - I would rather listen to the airlines that use (or will use) them commercially in service.
whitireia 1 year ago
@whitireia
I completely disagree.
Emirates or whatever company can't state an airplane that isn't in service yet.
Lufthansa has ordered 20 B747-8.

@bufalobilll I have based my information on the following article "747-8 vs A380 costs: airlines weigh in" on the Leeham News website.
You should be able to find it on Google.
I am not surpirsed that the all new A380 has better efficientcy than the 747-8 which is based on the orginal 747 airframe designed in the 1960s.
whitireia 1 year ago
@whitireia
The new 747-8 has the Dreamliner technology and materials,it's not properly the same as the 60's Jumbo.
Anyway i think you agree if i say 747 is much more beautiful,at least :-)
380 looks like a pregnant whale.
bufalobilll 1 year ago
@bufalobilll you said "The new 747-8 has the Dreamliner technology and materials..."
Hardly - this is more a marketing ploy from Boeing. There is some technology from the 787 that has made it to 747-8 but mostly cosmetic. Most improvements have been to the interior and perhaps the composite wing, but in saying that the wing design was a compromise aswell and as such we have a poor climbing 747-8 which will need 2 or 3 step to get to cruise as opposed to A380 it can climb to cruise in one go.
whitireia 1 year ago
@bufalobilll in terms of looks the 747-8 looks more like a flying penis.
If you think that is attractive then I guess it's a case of "each to their own" or "whatever floats your boat".
whitireia 1 year ago
@whitireia
Are you sure also the 747-8 will need 2 or 3 steps to reach the quote?
It'd be better to wait for its service,i know Lufthansa has ordered 20 of them and it's not a fool company.
In terms of look is a personal thing but we can agree 747 has been an enormous success.380...we'll see,in MY opinion is very ugly to see.
bufalobilll 1 year ago
@bufalobilll the 747 has enjoyed many years of sucess and was many years ahead of its time when it entered commercial service I agree.
Lufthansa however are also A380 customers with 15 on order and options for another 5 which hardly supports the 747-8 programme. I guess Lufthansa have missions that will be suitable for the smaller 747-8I.
whitireia 1 year ago
@whitireia
Sorry for my english but i haven't caught the meaning of the 2nd part of your post.
bufalobilll 1 year ago
@bufalobilll no problem I will try to explain more clearly.
Lufthansa are also A380 customers with 15 A380s in total on order.
So it's not that Lufthansa are not interested in A380. They must have routes that will be more suitable with the 747-8I.
Cheers :-)

@whitireia
ok,i've got it.
Yes on Lufth site is specified it has ordered 20 A380 and 20 747-8.

king747 747 is better because its faster good looking and it is king of the skies
haga689 1 year ago
@haga689 the 747 is only slightly faster in cruise.
747 cruise .855 MACH
A380 cruise .85 MACH
Overall though the A380 performs better becasue it can reach cruise altitude in one step. The 747 requires two or three steps before it can reach cruise altitude.
This means that the A380 will arrive at its destination before the 747.
The 747 is clearly owned in almost every comparison.
The only aspect 747 wins over A380 is cargo carrying capacity - apart from that A380 wins every other comparison

@whitireia the new 747-8 is 11% more efficient but passenger numbers and efficincy of the a380 still makes it earn more per passenger
piloty5 10 months ago
