When the 747-8 and -8I models enter service, they will be the longest commercial aircraft in the world, beating out the A340 Airbus by 7 feet. Boeing forever!
@SenorSpode Haha, yes, but I think it's nice to have rumors since it means something isn't dead at all.
What I think about Boeing future is kind of sloppy... Why would they enlarge an old airplane? Why not design a new one? Anyways, Airbus is ahead of Boeing. It's a new generation of airplanes, more safe and the technology being used by Airbus is beyond compare. Have a nice day :-).
@starbreez3 Not sloppy at all. Boeing's planes are expandable, not confined designs like Airbus's. There is nothing wrong with Boeing's designs. Time has proven this, why else would airline companies keep buying? If you think the design is old, please feel free to buy a new design.
Thought so. You're as piss-poor as I am. Plus, if Airbus' technologies were so safe, why are they crashing into forests and oceans? Again, thought so. Have A Nice Day.
@SenorSpode Hmm, you speak about the first test with fly-by-wire? Well if I remember after that incident, few or none were the incidents with the most reliable and safe computer onboard Airbus uses. Also do you know me? I don't think so, but anyways. Thanks ;) you too.
@starbreez3 "Do you know me?". Should I? What makes you better, worse or different than the other 6.6 billion carbon-based forms of life with whom you share oxygen? be special elsewhere, please, you're obviously having a hard time coming to terms with Barney lying to you. As far as incidences of autopilot failure, peruse the NTSB databases someday. Later.
How come the wings don't flex as much as the Boeing drawings indicated? Is it because it is empty or will that be the 747-8i or did the artist just exxagerate it. I was expecting the wings to flex the way they do on the 787.
Most of the artist renderings show the -8 at cruising altitudes (around 35,000 feet on average). Since you are allowed to fly much faster than 250 knots above 10,000 feet, the amount of lift generated by the wings might be enough to make them flex as they do in the artist rendering. It should be the same for the -8I and freighter versions of the aircraft because they share the same wing design.
(Scare)Airbus be warned, the Queen lives and she's coming to crush your little A380. VERY nice video, it's always nice to see such a beautiful plane take to the skies.
Still my favorite. I'm looking forward to the passenger version. Hope to see them in the US. Not sure who's ordering them. It appears for the time being Delta is content with their fleet and did not have any purchase plans for the 787. Hope they consider the new 747 when its out. Beautiful vid!
@TonyFirelli The freighters have more commercial appeal at present, although there are outstanding orders for the passenger version. Lately the 777 has captured a lot of Boeing's intercontinental sales. The new 747 with the GE-nx engines ought to change things somewhat.
A Great geant bird in the sky !!!!! Is there any commercial version ? how many seats ?

The 747-8F looks like one ugly aircraft.
I think the pax version will ook better with the extended hump. The freighter just looks out of proportion.
But it's functionality that the airlines want not looks I suppose.

@whitireia the a380 is so butt ugly compared to the 747-8, i thought those europeans could design a more beautiful aircraft than they did.

A most technological elegant aircraft flying. The 380 will never see the success 47 enjoys! Throw in the towel now on the 380!
