  • would a chip out like that greatly affect your score on the carving?

  • @byr0nl33t Maybe a point or two. But this happens more with old soap (as was the case with this carve example). It tends to be more crumbly. New soap is a lot more waxy and doesn't chip out as much.

  • *hang

  • and how many times did you practice this, until you got the hand of it?>

  • @16SandyR Probably about 3 or 4 carves. You have to get used to how the blade cuts. Once you get that and figure out how to hold the soap, it's not bad. It may take you different amounts of time based on your dexterity. Even if you go through a whole pack of soap, it doesn't matter.

  • hey, do you know where I can find for practice questions for the manual dexterity section?

  • @16SandyR legitimately? I saw in my school bookstore in the medical section, they had a shelf with DAT and MCAT practice stuff. There's a separate book that I think Kaplan sells with 40 practice carvings. Whatever uni you're close to (that has a dental school), check out their bookstore. Otherwise, the internet might have some pics.

  • Why would you want to remove the flash? Isn't it good to have it there?

  • @rsrivas1987 It just gets in the way when you're drawing the guidelines down the shaft as well as the circumferential lines. It's just a rougher area to have to draw on and I found the pencil tends to skip off it easier.
