This is a terriable person to play the Phaneom. By now many are seeing this in DVD and last year . His acting is terriable, no smooth quality, and voice completely wrong. Just my opinion, but I have seen the stage production 5 times, sadly not with Michael Crawford, and this guy is horrible. I find it odd that this was the best they could do. Why not just film a live show of the stage production playing in London. This production makes no sense.
@N4bpp1 no disrespect intended but are you deaf and blind? Ramin Karimloo is perfect as the tormented phantom, and spectacularly musical. He has played Phantom in POTO and Love Never Dies on stage. Also his voice is very much like Mr Crawfords Phantom.
This video is wrong! The audio has been lowered by a tone so it sounds really weird (trust me I have the proper DVD)!! Check the official POTO youtube video, its in the correct key and sounds proper!
Actually yeah the pitch has been lowered- doesn't sound like that at all on the DVD/Soundtrack. Maybe trying to duck under the copyright cache thing here ;)
Why is everyone hating on Gerard? He may not have raw talent like Ramin or Michael but he sure did a hell of a good job. I respect that he at least tried and did his very best.
@shwadiana - I have seen the live performances of the Phantom over a dozen times from coast to coast and was relieved that Gerard Butlers performance and the transformation from stage to screen went as well as it did. I would have to disagree with your assessment that if one likes Gerard as the phantom then one doesn't know what the show is about. Gerard was as excellent as all the Phantoms in all the live performances I have seen....and I know what the show is "really" all about.
@morphius237 I respectfully disagree. Gerard's voice has no power or professional training. While nothing was wrong with his acting, he simply doesn't have the raw talent vocally like Ramin Karimloo, Michael Crawford, Hugh Panaro, etc. Gerard's voice could never hold up in a live performance of Phantom - it simply doesn't have the same power.
@morphius237 sorry but Gerard Butler was too gorgeous to be the phantom, and his face was not horrific enough. If I was Christine I would have said "stuff the boyfriend, Im going off with the phantom" The make up department totally ruined the film because of this.
Oh dear, I preordered this and thought it would be Michael Crawford & Sarah Brightman. I'm so disappointed - Ramin just isn't in Michael's league. Why oh why wasn't it Michael Crawford?!?! The movie with Gerard Butler was better than this sample, sigh...
It's been in Norway for weeks...They dis lower the pitch, "the girl" is Sierra Boggess from The Phantom of The Opera 2: Love Never Dies (Or just Love Never Dies,) and it IS Ramin Karimloo!

@shwadiana Just because some like Gerard better doesn't mean they don't know what the show is all about. Everyone is different.
