I absolutley LOVE this song!! Phyllis sang her heart out, and the lyrics speak to me about loving myself and believing in myself to reach my DREAMS!! I have this song on cd! We miss you Phyllis. Thanks for the music!!
I cry everytime I hear this song, since the age of 14 I had to grow-up very quickly because I lost both of my parents. And, when times are hard I listen to this song to help me Remember who I am. Phyllis Hyman has always been my favorite artist of all time, she has the ability to make me feel and believe even when times are hard. Even in death, no one has ever come close to this Angel. I miss you something fierce, Ms. Hyman...
There are times in our lives that you find something that makes you feel an emotion that you never thought you had, well I can say that Phyllis Hyman has always been that lady, singer special person who by singing makes you FEEL....Thank you Phyllis.. True Songstress..
This is my first time hearing this, but it is just more proof that this woman was a remarkable singer and story teller. This kind of talent is not seen anymore.....period.
This is a beautiful song that applies to all of us and speaks to everyone of our situations. No matter how bad things get we cannot lose sight of who we are
Thanks so much for posting the magnificent Miss Hyman. I LOVE her beautiful, Sensual, Smoky, Sultry voice. I played her CD's constantly and her death shook me to the core... Drugs robbed us of another wonderfully gifted talent. When will people learn you CAN NOT-EVEN try it. RIP Miss Hyman, I sure do miss you.
I had the pleasure of meeting Ms. Hyman and her warmth was felt in person the same way she sings her songs...I will always Remember Phyllis Hyman.. one of the greatest artist of our lifetime.
This is an amazing song... I just wish Phyllis would have remembered the feeling tone and passion when she sung this, as well as the lyrics. Maybe she would still be here making amazing music!
A song that is very well said and it needs no introduction at all. Very well put Phyllis, as usual.Remember who you are, there's no one like you.............irvinbean123
you listen to something so soulful like this, something this real and heartfelt, it simply outshines anything being produced or sung on the radio these days. Anyone thinking otherwise does not understand real music. "true" musicians like phyllis, angela bofill, jean carne, etc...they werent just singers. Their voices were works of art.
I LOVE the pic of her as a teenager with the short pixie haircut round 1:07. She was soooo beautiful. Gone to soon. I also like the pic of her at 2:33; she looks like a regal model.
I agree deborah cox looks more like her. Im sick of how people saying that jazmine suillvian is the rebirth of phyllis. people need to stop that crazy talking shit
You are so right, this is because the average person today is musically challenged, they're so use to these main artists today! There was only one Phyllis. I remember going to her private concerts, she was better than even recorded, the emotions she would bring from within the Audience! Phyllis was amazing!
She was such a Goddess! Hearing about her taking her life the day after my 35th birthday was the absolute worse. I'll never forget it as long as I have breath.
This song, just as every other song sung by Phyllis Hyman, is BEAUTIFUL!! Her beauty, talent and undeniable class make her unforgettable and irreplaceable! May you rest in peace angel!!
This song was really right on point as well as the message that she was trying to put out there. Phyllis is such a beautiful woman and one can become very easile mesmerized by her voice as well as her beauty. Thank you Phyllis for so many countless moments listening to your music, and if you can only know the kind od impact that it has on me still presently. God bless you Ms.Hyman and I really truly hope you have found just what you were looking for, and always Remember who YOU are. irvinbean
I personally think they should jus get a look alike actress to play her and use her own voice or maybe Toni Braxton's voice to record the songs. I would want it to seem as real as possible and that's the best way to do it in my opinion.
im a 35 yrs old woman n i've grown up off PHYLLLIS LIKE THE OTHER PERSON COMMENTED I'VE NEVER HEAR DIS. I LUV EVERYHING ABOUT HER LOOK,SOUND,& STYLE. IM KIND UPSET WITH HER 4 WHAT SHE DID, EVEN THO U NEVER NO WHAT A PERSON GO'N THRU.GOD, BLESS HER BECAUSE WHEN IM DOWN HER VOICE BLESSES ME. IM NOT SURE IF U HEARD HER WITH THE LATE GREAT GROVER WASHINGTON "SACRED KIND OF LUV" I LUV THAT.THANK U MRMUSIK D'ANGELA BHAM.,AL.
I discovered Miss Hyman whan I was a young man in the Army, her voice just...really I cannot describe how she makes me feel, her depth of emotion in her songs was so real, unlike the crap today....
My girl!! ... this song is so special and the message is so unmistakenly profound ... I went to see Phyllis at the NY Beacon Theatre and was so mesmerised I just sat there and absorbed every minute of her performance .. at one point she performed barefeet because, as she said, she was most comfortable performing without them.. I was totally blown away at how at ease she was with her audience.. we really miss her presence today! .. .. REST IN PEACE LADY!!
Wow...I was privileged to see Phyllis several times in DC and NY. She sent chills down my spine every time, absolutely amazing. I have this cd but seeing this picture demonstration just dropped me to my knees; it reminded me of how much I miss her...thank you!
I found that to be so beautifully displayed. I was able to see where some of our divas today like Jill Scott, Toni Braxton, Queen Latifa and those sisters have acknowledged Ms.Phyllis Hyman as one of their icons. Thankyou This was very musically historical
This has to be one of her greatest songs! The lyrics are soooo touching........and when the clouds of doubt catch you off your guard, just remember who you are......you're both the singer and the song, the painter and the painting, don't waste your time in waiting, make your mark and remember who you are.....profound!!!! Much love, RIP Diva!
I wish I was alive before her untimely passing. When I hear lyrics like these, it emphasizes the delicate sacredness of life; especially with the fact that the singer is no longer with us. She's amazing.
Yes MrMusik you are absolutely right! She is a Legend period!!! A voice that can not be copied, one that stands out clearly. And a delivery that everyone can FEEL! A true SONGSTRESS! Never to be forgotten!
This song is sooooo beautiful!!!! The beginning reminds me of Let's wait a while by Janet Jackson but this song is soooo much more. I am now reading the book Strength of a Woman The Phyllis Hyman Story and it really sheds a bright light to the pain and struggles she had been dealing with ever since she was a child. She was a legend in her own right forever to be remembered and missed, I love you Phyllis!
I will never forget the day I got the call from a dear friend that Phyllis Hyman had took her flight off this earth!!! I just didn't want to believe it then and still don't all these many years later its hard to except that she is really gone. Her VOICE was as beautiful as she was physical. Georgeous woman. RIP Phyllis!!!!!!!
I agree. She was very incredible in her stage appearence, her voice, and the way she could make you feel how she song her songs. There wlll probably be no one else like her.

Actually after this was released in 1993, Phyllis went on record a few more songs and in 1995 just before her death she recorded an album entitled "I Refuse To Be Lonely". The album was released 5 months after her death.
It still hurts that she is gone...R.I.P Ms. Hyman.

Such a Fragile Rose, Beauty and Promise all in One Voice. One Amazing Voice
that was able to capture All in Life, beauty, personality, strength, and character.
And yet, Love was illusive to her. Prayers to an Angel.

Phyllis Hyman was never given the props she truly deserved.
Sorry she gave up...wish thing were better today than then but things could improve.
