@ceiblue Thanks ceiblue - I'm very happy that you felt moved by the piece. The featured music is as follows: "Reprise", "Ted and Marion", "The Pawn" by Peter Vronsky. The soundtrack is from the film "Door In The Floor".
That was just Awe inspiring, Beautiful, Cerebral, Divine, Excellent, Fantastic, Godly, I'm pretty sure I could fill in all 26 alphabetical adjectives to describe what I just saw, given the time/space. In the early 90's I lusted for a Turbografx 16, but never ended up with one until finally last year I found one in brand new shape in a box, complete with all plastic wrapping/promo materials, it was one of the finest moments of my gaming career to open that up and fire up Blazing Lazers.Good job.
@coldfustion For this particular film, I used a Sony FX-1 1080i camera with SGPro 35mm adapter to get the depth of field look. The look of the film was further accentuated in post by Magic Bullet Looks in Premiere Pro CS2 (with lots of tweaking to get the look just right). Of course lighting is very important as well and I had two tungsten 250w spots on either side of the display stand (to the rear) and a bounce card in front.
Yes, it definitely overly-dramatic but I think that is part of the charm and humor of it. Great work! And, one a side note, I just bought a PC Engine. Can't wait for it to get here!
@Devbinks Thanks for the comment. The film was not intended to be funny or over-dramatic...in fact the film was intended to be an emotional memory of NEC's past (just wanted to make this clear). Have fun with your PC Engine...may the system live on!
Their are very few consoles I would buy from back when too. Don't even get me started on the sega saturn.. hunting down one of those for a decent price and then looking at how much people are selling the game for the thing is a GODDAMN NIGHTMARE that I will never wish to be a part of... unless the prices go down in the next couple of years.
It is kind of sad if you think about how quickly it faded out of existence and maybe theirs a lesson we can all learn from that- never release a quasi-16 bit home console before Sega and don't piss off Nintendo's stranglehold on the game market. Its like it really had everything to do with "timing" or something obvious like that. Still I love this console enough to actually buy a real japanese import of the thing.
it would have been better if you showed more colors since that is what these systems had going for them. the lack of color and overdramatic music really hinder this. i feel like i'm watching the last episode of LOST! but it's good that there are people like you who will take the time to do something like this! good effort.
AWESOME!!! AMAZING!! All we need now is a remembrance of sega :D im gonna cry if a sega one is made showcasing all the consoles and this same music is put in!
The filming is great. Top notch. But you make it so over-dramatic though. I felt like I was dying and having Near Death Experience flashback on gaming consoles from childhood. lol It's too over dramatic man, most in part because of your choice in music for something silly as showcasing NEC's lineup of vintage games. great job though. Did you work in After Effects or Final cut?
You are the first comment I've heard about the film feeling like a near-death experience :) I suppose that feeling could be applied to the film as it is a remembering of something that has long since "died". The film was cut and finished entirely in Premiere Pro CS4 on Vista 64-bit.
Beautiful video. Excellent camera work. Did you use a dolly or was this done entirely by hand? Very smooth although I imagine framerate was slowed to get camera flow effect. I never owned the older PC-engine grafx consoles but I still have my 32bit PC-FX. Keep up good work, look forward to future vids.
Ignore the shroom... the video was simply perfect in every way, and the music just tops everything. I even wish you'd do more videos like this for non-NEC consoles :)
In the Uk these machines were only available mail order from japan etc...they held a mystical quality for me...the megadrives and nintendos you could pick up on any high street, it was their exclusivity...pc engine and neo geo that had me hooked
Very nice. You know, I have been going to your web sites since - I believe - '97. Really good to see that you are still kicking. I still remember the pictures of your cramped-looking room showing all your turbo goods. If I recall correctly, I believe I sent you some Ys MIDIs, which you posted on your site several years ago. Anyway, keep it up.
Hey, nice to hear from one of my long-running visitors! The site is still being updated and the forums are as busy as ever - I hope to create more NEC related entertainment very soon.
I'm very glad you enjoyed the film HCG. For the camera I used the Sony FX1+SGpro 35mm lens adapter (without the SGpro there would have been no in-camera way to get that good depth of field without faking it).
Thats it?
