It is a very popular ruan music now, and there are several recordings played by different ruan players. The version played by a Chinese ruan player, Liu Po, had ever been used in the movie "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon".
This is one of the best interpretations of this piece I've seen, and I have three saved. The 'ruanist' is deeply moving, as is the percussionist, and I have a thunder maker. Wonderful music!
Sounds Central Asian. Like Xinjiang music. Nice to listen to. Soul-stirring.
