You might want to do some research. There is a line dance called the California Hustle, it is not the Bus Stop and it is very real. Try checking some of your dance books, it is published, it is real and it is a line dance, not a partner.

The Fatback Band came out with the song "Do The Busstop" in 1974. Van McCoy came out with the song "The Hustle" in mid 1975.

People were doing THE BUSSTOP; long before people started doing "the Hustle".

Yes, I understand that later on, high-school gym teachers taught The Hustle as a line dance.

The Busstop is a line dance.

The Hustle is a partner dance.

Check the video put out by THE WIGGLES; called "Do The Busstop" i'm pretty sure they did some research on the topic.

I was a regular at 54 and Zenon and Starship and Bonds and NewYork, NewYork. These are clubs that people today can only WISH they had the chance to visit. You are so right. It really doesn't matter. Have you beat though. I am over 65, been dancing most of my life and still teach line dancing. The Hustle done in the days when I was doing the dance was a line dance done to Van McCoy's song and was my introduction to line dance and it was not The Busstop. The Hustle as I know it related to partner dancing is a genre, like Swing, Salsa, Cha Cha etc. Since I no longer have a partner dancing The Hustle as a line dance works for me.

Also might be of interest to know 9th grade gym teachers may have taught it as as a line dance, I was long out of school but Fred Astaire studios and their ballroom books list this dance as both partner and line, which is where I went when I wanted to teach the line dance and needed verification for a senior moment brain lapse.
