  • Cool GG-1 how many cars can she pull?

  • @bradstrains It can pull about 6 or 7 of the Madison type passenger cars or about 12 postwar freight cars at 15 volts. I won'tpush it over 15 volts as it will still fly off the track. The engine has both Magne Traction and rubber tires - so it pulls great.

  • @le55420 Are postwar cars much harder to pull because my 1 pullmor equipped GP7 can pull 15 cars no problem at all and probably could pull 25-35 on big curves.

  • @bradstrains Postwar cars don't have needle point ends on their axels. Postwar car wheels rotate on the axel and cause much more friction. A single motor GP7 with magne traction might be able to pull 7 or 8 postwar freight cars if the trucks are oiled properly.

  • @le55420 The original Postwar engine manuals say a post war GP-7 w/ 1 motor can pull 15 cars and that is without traction tires so a newer, T-tire and magnetraction one should be-able to pull more like 20

  • @bradstrains Lets not confuse postwar cars with modern cars made after 1969. If you try and pull 15 postwar freight cars with a postwar GP7 it will pull them poorly with a lot of wheel slip. I have pulled about 8 mixed postwar freight cars with my GP7 from 1955 and was happy with the speed. I added 3 more cars for a total of ten and it was very disappointing. I do think it would pull 15 modern freight cars with no problem.

  • @le55420 I'm just saying what a real postwar GP-7 manual said. Maybe since then they have become harder to pull because of rust.

  • @bradstrains Lionel told some stories in the catalogs and instruction manuals back in the postwar era. If you have access to a copy of the service manual from those days, there were a few engines and other items that they admitted to their service techs were poor performers and they offered some adjustments to make the engines run better. The GP7's were great runners but even with good clean and properly lubed axles, more than 7 or 8 mixed postwar cars would be a strain for the GP7.

  • Your layout looks great. I really like the various levels with the incline and the reversing loop. I am also a fan of the good old tubular track. Can't be beat. I saw a great old ZW there as well; I have 3 of them. I can't wait to see it finished. How steep is your incline? Are you using 031 turnouts or 022s? Happy railroading!

  • Love the horn

  • Can't wait to see it when it's compleate!

  • Looks and sounds great to me!
