Actually it was not the UK that initially supported Taliban against the Russians but the US.

Indogitrust is quite right in saying that Afghanistan needs to be freed from the excessive manifestation of Islam. No religion is good when it subjects people to slavery and dehumanization.

Everybody knows the UK-US relationsship. Its like the relationship between Romania and the Soviet union back in the old days. You can be sure that the UK gov and the MI6 provided the American Gov with all sorts of support.

No religion is good, true, but religion is just the symptom of a destabilized society structure. The soviet union and the US have payed a big role in destabalizing it. Like arming the Mujhaedeen, who were no better than the Taliban, even worse (+drugselling).
