at that time there was much discrimination against black, yet these fine black artists behave in a self respecting manner! Ironically Now so many black artists(talking about rappers) behave in a way that just embarrasses themselves.
Remember when songs had memorable melodies and you could actually hear the lyrics? Remember when the musical arrangements sounded good and left you with a good feeling? Remember when the concerts were always great, and you didn't have to go to an ear specialist the next day? Remember when music was really, really musical? I'm glad I'm old enough to remember when the Platters could be heard on my transistor radio, under my pillow, late at night, when everyone else was sound asleep.
At least you had two and a half years with the girl you loved, I didn't share so much as a walk on the boardwalk with the one I loved. I didn't know him, oh I knew him and he me but I didn't know him because on April 30, 1963 somehow he and his memory got tossed and stored in a wrong portion of my brain where he could not be remembered until June of 2010 (24 years after his passing) when an article connected the dots and I became aware of him consciously for the first time. Tragic indeed.
Remember our dance, ya know I looked for you found you, but you were dancing with someone else, sad isn't it that that is how it would be the rest of our time. We never quite got together and you have forgotten me. But I have music this good to keep you safe and warm and loved!
@EHDROCK I Agree i let go of my first and ever true love 43yrs ago i as married for 24yrs in the last 43yrs but have to say not one day goes past without me thinking of my first true & only love, but just like you i play these and many others just to remind me of the 2 and half yrs i had with the girl i still love!!!
@teddyxiao The Platters were my favorite group in the 50s. I remember seeing them in Lincoln Park for free and at the Old Paramount Theatre on 6th and Hill in L.A. They sang between movies and I stayed for 3 shows.
I believe that Margie who was Disc Jockey Hunter Handcocks secretary was married to lead singer Tony Williams.
Also, Zola Taylor sang with Shirley Gunter and the Queens.
The Platters ..!!! I knew these songs for my father was the music of the day Sunday morning I remember I was small, strange those days thanks for the video is great
These are the original Platters. Tony Williams' voice was at its peak. He was an incredible singer. This group and a few others help to bring down the color barriers in American music. They went around the world and set an example for every musical act to follow. None of the groups that came after them would have had the kind of success they accheived without Tony Williams and the Platters setting the standard for excellence and class in African-American music.
@MILLIEMAGO Sí, alguna cosa que oímos nos hace recordar pero los especiales nos toman atrás a aquel tiempo. Pienso que esto es en parte la canción y en parte lo que hacíamos cuando primero oímos la canción.
These aren't the Platters I remember. Perhaps it's because I hadn't heard this song up until now. Anyway I can see why I didn't hear it, it dosen't stack up to the likes of Twightlight Time, Only You, The Great Pretender & Smoke Gets In Your Eyes which were all top 10 hits here in Vancouver Cda. Thx4postin
I just can not stop washing these peace of s... singers!!! Oh my God how much a miss those guys on the stage. Those voices are in my ears!! The platters for the rest of my life!!!!!!!
Like John1948 the Platters were a little before my time. But I still heard them from those who were teens while was still a kid. Then when my now husband and I had our first date in 1968 we saw the Platters perform at a high school auditorium in Birmingham, AL. It was unbellievable. Remember When was the all-important "our song" and still is today.
@Normurr Hiya Norm. You're 10 years older than me and I often wished I could have been your age to be more a part of the birth of rock and roll. Of course I saw it as a grade school kid but I think you had to be a teenager to really live it. Rock on!!!
@Normurr I'm not so old, I was 16 when they had concert in Zagreb (in late 70s). Even they were old then, this was the best concert I've ever been. I remember when I was about 14, I quarreled with my father a lot saying that it's shitty music Iin that time I was listening Donny Osmond, T-Rex, Suzi Quatro... :D.). Thanks God, my stupidity haven't lasted too long, I realized very soon how magic this music is. I still have Double LP with their hits.

They were lip-syncing, probably for audio clarity. I think I have most of their original recordings.
Zola Taylor was beautiful, and the best female R&R singer there was in that era.
She passed away in 2007 at age 69 from a stroke.
This brings back so many memories.
