Im guessing the tax was introduced to deal with the problem of obesity. If you think about it there is some logic in creating a tax on junk food in an effort to dissuade people from buying certain products in unhealthy quanitities. but it should be balanced with more competitive prices on healthy foods also. Maybe those two things could help buck the trend and get people eating healthy diets again because a bad diet will lead you down the road to obesity alot quicker than a lack of exercise!

Okay, seriously...You dont need a gym membership to stay fit and healthy. Jogging and running is free for starters. Add to that the many exercises you can do that require no equipment at all and you'll cover most aspects. But people are missing the point - Its not ideal to eat large amounts and then just go to the gym and burn it off.
