It irks me that the average person is ignorant of the fact the Angela Lansbury is a theater legend with 5 Tonys and has received three Oscar nominations for Supporting Actress: Gaslight, The Picture of Dorian Grey, and The Manchurian Candidate. Average folks only know her for Murder She Wrote and that she was Mrs. Potts in Beauty and the Beast.
I saw her performance as Madame Rose on tour. She just blew everyone in the theater away. The ovation after "Rose's Turn" went on and on and on. She is truly one of the great Madame Rose's.
I listened to both of her version and the original of Ethel Merman and I felt Angela sang it even better than Ethal did. Bernadette and Patti were also very impressive but not as good as these 2 ladies. Just my opinion!
she was the first person i ever heard sing the song. it was only a very small illegal clip (video is called "Angela Lansbury Gypsy Clips)so her version will always hold a special place with me
Am I mistaken in thinking that she did a voice in "The Last Unicorn": "There is no immortality but the love of a tree"? I love that movie, and I believe hers was that voice. "I LOVE you! I LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE you!"
Angela, a Sparkling Talent. Broadway, films and TV.
Oh,to have seen her in Mame.
Not to be, but we have the soundtrack!I did see the lady in London,(in the cheap seats, so saw this Dynamo in the distance - never again!).Love you Ms Lansbury.
What a wonderful retrospective. Angela is without question one of the greatest stars of this or any century. I was lucky enough to see her in "Mame" and "Sweeny Todd." Damn, but I missed some of the others. She is magnificent!!!
Lansbury is a great actress. The ones who like "Gypsy" can also enjoy Bette Midler's soundtrack from her film. It's a wonderful singer doing an incredible job.
