@SpeedingStudent Like you know anything about the original composition. You know that it wasn't "Air on a G String" until 100 years after J.S. Bach was dead, right?
Not really when you think about it: Bach's genius lied in the composition itself, not in the particular instrumentation of this or that arrangement.
When the basic composition has the kind of quality that most of Bach's work has, it can be arranged and rearranged over and over again, with different instrumentation each time. And still come out sounding absolutely beautiful.

I see you thought about it and your explanation makes sence...however when I listen to my beloved Air performed on harmonica(and not by a very skillful guy too) I find it hard to enjoy.
This piece brought my 2 sons from playing boisterously in the adjoining room, to wandering slack-jawed over to the computer!! it takes sheer power of beauty to achieve that!! thank-you!!
Thankyou, Mr Goodall, for helping to highlight the most appealling thing about this tune. You find yourself wandering with the bass, not the treble. Your mind is with the treble, but following the bass.
This song gets better and better ...takes me back to the third street music school in New York city back in the 80's . I had a crush on a ballet dancer named Zoey but that's a different story
Very nice! I've heard countless versions of this wonderful "little" tune, by Bach & by-and-far, this has to be one of the most pleasurable ones around. Thank you! :)
Oh man! I grew up WATCHING that guy on Ovation TV on my Bright House(formerly Time Warner) cable box when I lived in Riverview, FL, in 2000 and he is one of my role models! His voice and appearance just amazes me to bits! Hooray for Howard Goodall!!! :D
is it possible to find the complete track in the web?

el idiota que presenta la melodía no debería interrumpir una interpretación tan bonita, que deje sus comentarios hasta el final, ¡qué estúpido!

Are you joking? I hope you are, because he is one of the greatest, or perhaps the best interpreter of Air on G with a harmonica..

Have heard it many times of course... and rarely as Bach would have conceived it. But if you have to modernise, this sounds pretty wonderful.
