  • Is it just e, or does Steve Ditko have share a striking resemblance to Graffiti artist, Keith Haring?

  • I always thought Flo was just a character created for 'What If The Original Marvel Bulpen Became The Fantastic Four!'

  • Yeah, I HATE Joe Quesada too. F@#$ him

  • Fuck you, Joe Quesada!!!

  • @evilmick66 That's right son, Fuck Joe Quesada!

  • Grrr, the '67 Spider-Man cartoon; POOR? It remains the cornerstone of saturday morning cartoons. He-Man, Thundercats, Transformers, Visionaries, Jayce and the Wheeled Warriors, Dungeons and Dragons... how many of those would exist were it not for the sheer popularity of the Spider-Man cartoon. You missed a trick there Ross.

  • Awww, they didn't show the Japanese Spider-Man. He had a Megazord before the Power Rangers, ya know.

  • Jonathan Ross is full of shit the 67 series of spider- man was fucking awesome its not poor how can you call it poor cos it didn't have great animation well it was the fucking 60s Jonathan Ross is a moron he thinks the 67 series is poor but his idea of good is the 70s show which was complete crap

  • The Hulk page at 2:59 was drawn by Ditko, NOT by Kirby!

  • How the hell was the animated '67 series poor?! It was brilliant! (at least the first season of it was!)

  • I think stan did invent spiderman but i think steve deserves credit as co creator, would spiderman been as popular without that costume? what if some other artist had made him with 8 arms and legs with a black costume and 6 eyes. Spiderman might not have even lasted more then one issue and we wouldnt be having this video right now.

  • Damn, the Karate Kid looks like shit. I guess he hasn't aged well.

  • @XxLuv191xX Lmao, I scrolled down to make a comment about that and you beat me to it.

  • Holy shit 7:47... And lol, Ralph Macchio...

    Sorry, I'm done.

  • The elevator scene from Spider-Man 2 always makes me chuckle.

  • I WANT QUESADA'S TABLET

  • i think steve ditko is a fucking tosser to be honest, i mean why not get involved more, i heard he dont take any money from the spiderman movies or anything, its like hes got a grudge against stan lee and marvel, i mean grow up for fucks sake, steve didnt create spiderman, he designed spiderman, stan lee thought up spiderman, that makes him the creator imo, steve designed him on paper, something any artist could have done.

  • @Brady2k10 You are a fucking dumbass. Steve's naturalistic design to Spider Man was serendipitous to Stan's "naturalistic" apporach to superheroes. The reason Steve did not want the money was because he had the one inch that was left of any human being, diginity.

Also, Stan Lee was a more marketable person than Ditko, which lead to many to believe that Lee was the sole man behind spider man's incredible success. People even believe that Stan Lee could draw.

  • @SpectralViral wow sensitive. Well i still stand by what i said, steve ditko was a good artist, but stan had the idea first. Thats like me saying to thomas edison, i designed the lightbulb so im the creator not you. When it was edison who thought up the idea. So im still saying stan lee is the creator and steve ditko the designer. And from what ive seen and read, ditko is a fucking baby who wants more credit than he deserves for it and so went off like a spoilt brat.

  • @Brady2k10 Well you must be a paraplegic; your stand is quite invalid and your backbone is unsupported by lackadaisical claims of Steve's "spoilt" discredit and ruptured tendons of misinformation and bias towards Lee. I don't see how you can still "stand" after what Jonathan Ross and Romita and Gambaccini had documented.

(Stan Lee was the spoiled brat because he was always neglected his collaborators. You must be the kind of guy who likes the Avengers, and not the marvel one.)

  • @SpectralViral dont talk like you know either, trynna talk all smart ppshh, if stan thought of the idea, then he created spiderman, not ditko. Now you must be a fan of ditko and cant take the harsh truth, he was just an artist, who was given the idea of spiderman from stan, and he drew spiderman, the onewe know today, he didnt think him up tho did he? no. stan did. get over it.

  • @Brady2k10 but it was steve who did most of the work... watch the rest of the documentary... dumbass

  • @SpectralViral tht still dont mean he created spider man, like i said before, he was like the designer, and stan even said id be happy to say hes the co creator but obviously tht wasnt enough for ditko, he wanted more and went off moaning like a spoilt brat, so no stan lee is in the right. He hasnt taken anyones credit, he thought up spiderman and he deserves the credit for it, not ditko. This makes stan look bad but he aint

  • @Brady2k10 actually, there were many elements of spider-man that ditko came up with. stan even acknowledges that ditko contributed significantly to the plots of many of the stories...so therefore the creation of spider-man is a collaboration...

  • @owlie14 however, I will acknowledge that (despite ditko's significant creative contributions (that went far beyond the art) ) marvel has wanted to make amends with ditko and offer him much of the profit but he has done nothing of the sort. so part of this...is kinda his fault.

  • @Brady2k10 : You really need to study the history of the medium a little more... Stan didn't "create" anything. There may have been a few ideas he instigated (and I'm being generous here), but every single one of his collaborators back then contributed heavily to the stories. From story conferences to the artists stepping up and actually plotting the stories, the main thing Marvel changed in the industry was giving the creative power to the artist. The publisher of Marvel happened to be Stan's

  • @Brady2k10 :... cousin, so Stan could actually shape the history of Marvel to make it seem like he was much more creative than he actually was. Stan's biggest claim to fame is really scripting the stories... filling in the word balloons. This is the reason it's so important for Ditko to step up and contribute to the history of the medium/industry... he's been forever brainwashed by the deplorable Ayn Rand and it's tremendously damaged his career... which is too bad, because he's a genius...

  • @DeepSouthWrestling1 okok, right, your the artist, n u work with me at marvel, im the boss right, and ive just had an new idea for a new hero, n hes called stealthman n hes a master of stealth, right now u draw him up, tht makes me the creator, ur just the artist. The person with the idea, is the creator, not the person who designs the characters looks, but the person who comes up with the character in the first place. Stan thought up fantastic 4, hulk, x men etc

  • @Brady2k10 : But that's not how any of that went down... Stan had conferences with both Kirby and Ditko before anything was written in stone. Not only did the Marvel artists design the clothes, they PLOTTED THE STORIES!! so Peter Parker's nerdiness came from Ditko! The dynamic between Aunt May, Uncle Ben and Peter came from Ditko!! Spidey's initial creepiness came from Ditko!! So much of Spider Man comes from Ditko... besides, Lee actually stole the name from Simon/Kirby anyway...

  • @DeepSouthWrestling1 well then wtf is wrong with ditko then? only a retard would hold a fued this long, n he could be rollin in cash but instead left it all to stan and marvel, if u ask me, only a fucking retard would do tht.

  • @Brady2k10 : Well, Stan took credit for "creating" all the Marvel characters for years and years... back in the 90s, Kirby had to fight to get the credit he deserved. Unfortunately for Ditko, he subscribed to Ayn Rand's point of view and it warped him... I can certainly understand artistic integrity, but Ditko takes it too far, specifically when you consider we're talking about characters targeted at kids.

  • @DeepSouthWrestling1 well the thing is how can you lot blame stan for takin credit? he said he wanted ditko to come back n take some of the earning n stuff, but ditko didnt wanna kno, so who else other than stan is gonna take credit for spidey? only person is stan, n yet hes blamed for takin credit when it was partly his idea and hell if i was stan and ditko didnt wanna kno id do the same wouldnt u? i mean ur talkin millions here and ditko is acting like a retard refusing any of it.

  • @Brady2k10 : Well, again, Stan wasn't always so generous with credit... for decades, he claimed he created everything while magnanimously allowing the artists to draw his scripts. Only after Kirby's plight was brought to light in the 90s did the question of creators come up. As far as Ditko's behavior... well, he's touched to say the least. If you'd read any of his later stuff, you'd see how Objectivism has truly warped his sensibilities. I agree he should take what he can get at this point...

  • @DeepSouthWrestling1 You don't like Objectivism?

  • @Diakron79 : No... the 2 things that truly separate man from animals are creativity and altruism... objectivism denies altruism in favor of some kind of self-centered social Darwinism. IMO, cooperation works better than competition. Rand was a truly hateful woman. And I feel sorry for Ditko for swallowing such hogwash.

  • @DeepSouthWrestling1 Do you believe in some form of individualism at all?

  • @Diakron79 : Good question... I suppose I do, ultimately... but not at the expense of others...

  • @DeepSouthWrestling1 You sir, are on the mark. Altruism is not the greatest evil to man, but self-deception is, according to Robert Heinlein. It's a real shame that Ditko has to be a drone to one of the largest cults in history that is second to Scientology.

  • @Brady2k10 I know that Steve should have been more outspoken and compromised himself a bit, but Stan would have had a megaphone in his hand stating that he did everything to Spiderman.

As for "any artist designing him on paper", even John Romita said that he could not have come up with such a design for Spider-Man after Ditko had left, and that when he started his run on it, Romita says it was a well built machine that he just ocassionally oiled.

    Don't think and just STFU.

    Bollocks to you.

  • @SpectralViral and yeah and bollocks to you too

  • I must say, Flo was a cutie in her day.

  • Enjoyed this big fan of Steve Ditkos work not just Spider-man but Doctor Strange s well. This is Jonathan Ross at his best. -documenting subjects that he has a genuine passion for.
