Hi, great vid, i also go fossicking around nsw, as i am from Wollongong and shoalhaven river is about 40 min drive away.Could you possibly private message me as to where abouts on Shoalhaven river this was please.I would like to try it out.
@tfa40729..Continued: In response to showing why we chose the location. This video is too short to show everything involved with finding the "Line of Gold", formed after a big flood. The purpose of the video was to show our friends the type of high banker we have designed and the type of gold which can be expected at Shoalhaven river. We will produce some more informative videos which will be targeted for the novice gold fossicker on some of our future outings...Good luck for 2012.... Cheers Wal
@tfa40729...Trevor, thanks for your constructive input. We set the gold catching section of our high banker into 2 different configurations, hence the 2 mats on the top section of the high banker. The 1st mat traps all the coarse gold, the 2nd mat traps all the fine flour gold. The lower section of the high banker, is used only for trapping sapphires hence no mats and no clean up shown. We feel it's not necessary to show each mat separately as they both combine to do the same thing....see cont.
Continued: I hope you appreciate the friendly and constructive spirit in which I critique your video.I think it is good to critique each others videos as long as that criticism is constructive and not destructive.Only good and improvement can come of it as long as you don't take it personal insult to yourselves.I assure that's not my intent.I invite you or any other viewer to critique my videos in the same spirit because I'm interested in your ideas and impressions ..Regards ,Trevor
Nice video and shows the various steps in the process quite well.It would be even more interesting if you had panned the first two mats seperately and shown the cleanup results of each for a comparison of what and how much is collected ,where. Also you could have made it more informative for novices if you had explained your rationale for selecting the spot you decided to get your material from.I'm sure a lot of your viewers would've found that of interest. These are just my thoughts..see continud
nice gold, ill prolly see you down there 1 day,lol as its my regular haunt, but i must say, you really need to use dishwashing liquide when doing your backwash!
@rooshooter1977 Glad you liked the video. Certainly great spot. Thanks for the tip but if you use enough water on the front wash the gold won't float on the back wash. Certainly if you're not use to panning flour gold then a drop of dish liquid will certainly make it easier for you. Look forward to possibly catching up on the river and exchanging ideas.
@GreywolfMiner, if ever you come over to Australia for a holiday, get in touch with us and you're more than welcome to tag along on some of our gold fossicking trips.
This river only produces fine "flour" gold....which made it extremely difficult for the old timers to clean it out....hence it's relatively easy to get your 3 to 5 grams a day. The majority of rock bars are replenished with gold after every flood. It's one of the best rivers to practice your panning on as it's not the easiest gold to recover.
hope you never threw away any nuggets when you dumped the grid :)
