From all that I can gather, Scientology functions like a secret society under the guise of a religion. Secret societies use progressive "levels" of revelation to indoctrinate new members. New members are never allowed to see the end goals until they are too deep to quit. A "religion" should be able to "show" ALL of what they are right from the start. Sure some things may not be understood right away, but new ones should be able to "see" what is ahead of them before they get there.
