  • hello, hey could you make a video that explains how to configure and use alesis micron as midi? not, perhaps using reason, or any other program would be a good thing, because I think the entire network, no one has done.

  • "To add the phrase to the existing phrases, start recording when the button is already lit." i dont understand this part from the manual, does it mean it can add on to the already phrase? because if so i couldnt do that, it just create a new one everytime.

  • Cool video, just a question though. I've been wanting to get a hardware synth for a while, and while I want to go analog the price is what is holding me back at this point in time. With a virtual analog like this can you still get a nice warm sound similar to analog? (I noticed you have a poly evolver as well) Right now I am using just VSTs. The type of synthesis I am after is similar to James Blake's sound design (see James Blake - The Wilhelm Scream live video). Any info much appreciated.

  • haha!! thats the first thing i did as well, was go through the manual page by page.

  • So is there any way of going about this without actually reading the manual? What's that you say? Oh.. I see... by READING THE MANUAL. I guess I'll try that, then.

  • The alesis micron is a very good synth. But the manual of the micron sucks. It is the worst manual ever!

  • Three words here helped me a lot 'READ THE MANUAL'

    Nice one, good vid

  • @DaveCSTI

The manual is really the most comprehensive source of information on the micron. The intention of the video was to show how useful it actually is and is definitely not a joke, or meant to be condescending.

  • Its a long video for only say "read the manual, morons!".....

  • Yea, for whatever reason i never recieved a manual with the purchase of my micron.

  • Big up yrself. I love my Micron. It's capable of such unique sounds, as you know.

  • Read the manual?! But, I'm a guy I don't need no stinking manual!

    Truly, good advice.....thanks....

  • LMAO 0:30 RTFM.

  • Ha! RTFM. I love it.

  • I never got a manual with my micron, just a link to a site with the manual on it

  • nice pencil!

  • @Vuduman Looks like a Staedtler lead holder! Really nice pencils.

  • I will save you the 4:33 of life that I just wasted watching this video... READ THE MANUAL.

  • thank you, gtechture. this is very helpful.

  • just watched a few of oyour vid, our really know how to make ace sounds

  • haha. I love it! How novel! I'm thinking of buying a micron, but I might follow your advice and read the manual of the keyboard I already own first!

  • The manual really does answer every question. As soon as I stop accidentally deleting my sounds after I create them, I will be golden. :P

I was wondering, though: looked online and found this thing, the nanoKONTROL. It's a bunch of knobs, basically. $60.

Do you know if it would work if you plugged it into the Micron and assigned each knob to a knob the main knob would normally have to do?

I LOVE my Micron, but I also love having massive [and perhaps unreasonable] amounts of knobs/sliders/etc.

  • the nano control is a usb controller por computers, so you can control programs like FL Studio or Cubase, so basically no, it's not possilble.

  • So did the Micron you recieved come with the original manual that goes all over the place when you are trying to study some aspects of the Micron or did you get the second printing ? I got the original when I bought mine and it is a royal pain in the arse having to play search and find with it. I really do need to get ahold of the second edition manual.

  • I don't know. It seemed straightforward enough when I was dealing with it. I haven't dealt with my Micron in a serious way in a while [school, work, etc. etc. etc.], though I have a 88 key controller coming as we speak, which will be ... very nice to have.

  • Hi Gtech

Please repost V-Synth Depths. I saved it as a favourite because I thought it was such a great piece of music. My V-Synth don't seem to play like that :-)

I think there were some other rhythmic tunes that have also gone. Can we have them back too please :-)

  • Cool, Thanks! i will do that I was planning on rerecording it because it recorded monophonically. the sample never saved on the v-synth so i will have to try to recreate it from scratch.

    thanks,

    g

  • How do I turn off the memory protection? After I tweak with a program, I click store and it ends up saying 'Cannot store, Memory protection is on'

    Can I get some help?

  • Read the manual.

More helpfully ... press the config button next to the big knob [it's literally labeled 'config'], then twist it to the last menu option, then move one back. It'll say Store: Protect, under it it will say on (can't store). Click the knob, twist to off (can store), click the knob again. Voila.

  • 1: how would aftertouch affect a parameter in mod matrix

2" difference between keytrack and keytrkXT

3: i'm guessing CSin means Cosine?

4: portaEFX? i can probably figure that out on my own if i mess with it enough

    5: pressure = velocity?

    6: RndmVoice?

7: Track Step? i can use it but have no clue wtf it comes from

8: velocityup --is that velocity adjusted for keytracking?

havent had much luck with FXabcd being controlled or LFO/ Env amp but I think i can figure those out

  • All of this information is on pg 91-94 in the manual.

In the video I said it will answer every question ; ).

    1. Aftertouch will increase/decrease the value of the assigned parameter based on how far down the keys are pushed.

2.Same as keytrack but multiplied by four.

3.LFO 1 Sine wave output, phase shifted 90 degrees

4.Portamento Level scaled by keyboard position, so that the modulation level

    follows the notes pitch.

5.Monophonic (per-MIDI Channel) Aftertouch, MIDI only

  • 6.Random modulation source, unique to each voice

    7.Output of Tracking Generator, Stepped

8.Velocity that the key is released.

    Everything is in the manual.

  • dude, i went to guitar center today and was fucking aghast at this little mono synth..it's just crazy. so much better than microkorg though, alot of good stuff..i'm getting it next.

  • Hi,

If you're talking about the Micron, it has 8-notes of polyphony.

  • POST MORE!!! Mine comes in this week.

  • Thanks for this. I am now reading my manual and learning so much i never realized. I love my Micron so much more

  • is the playback slightly faster? you sound like a fanook haha. nice sesh

  • You mamaluke! Get your Protools working.

  • Gosh Thanks a lot of this! I have been looking at the manual too... but it is very hard to get it without an example... I hope you would make more videos about this~~~ Thanks so much!

  • I'll post more when I have time. But hopefully this will point in the right direction.
