@Lengo67 Alchohol prohibition failed for exactly the reason you stated. The only ones who benefited from it were the rich that could afford to pay the huge prices of what little was actually legal. I don't get high, but I'm not going to bitch at someone for thinking different. As long as no one gets hurt or killed, no one should bitch about it! Part of the reason for Prohibition was because of few people wanted to control people actions and lives. Hell, even race was a factor!
@Debachi You are right, even race had something to do with it. But the most important thing to consider is that is human nature to seek recreation in alcohol use or other substances. It is not government's role to disapprove of human nature. Govt's role is to educate people about the dangers of abuse, and identify the substances that are immediately dangerous, such as psychedelics and narcotics. When used in moderation, alcohol, marijuana, and govt are all okay.
she was definitely talking about refer..... refer was a very influential and prominent part of the blues scene.... i guess you can interpret as you'd like however the reality of it is that she's just talking about a little grass folks
@Erandir03 Actually, there is an old song about that very subject called Glad to be Unhappy. You could probably find it done by various artists. It is perverse, but that's a part of loving or lusting after someone that doesn't want you. :-)
I would say that our girl Ella was all kinds of doped up, on all kinds of stuff..... But if you want to chalk it up to art, then fair play.... All I got to say is that, dope or no,,, She was class! She lived a sad life, but she left us some GREAT music! Taken as a whole... She was beautful....
@jeepndesert Doesn't really make sense though. She's saying "when she gets low" as in, naturally sad, she "gets high". Now, I guess you could say she gets a perverse sense of enjoyment out of being depressed, but that's unlikely. Taking drugs to drown out the depression is a lot more likely, and common.
why is like the last half nothing?

Yessir. There's always been, and always will be, people willing to give us hell so that we can get closer to heaven.

Sheesh! Even the queen of singers has sung a song about marijuana, and it's smart and smartly done.
Prohibition is stupid! It is for selfish reasons, not to protect you. GET HIGH! And do it openly.

@Lengo67 Ah, but you know someone will want the government to step into someone else's life. People love powere just as much as their recreation!
