They are more left wing than the Conservative Party yes, but they have moved significantly to the right since the 80's . Crime rates are always highest in large cities, and crime is always highest in low income areas, which happen to be in cities, because that's where people go for jobs, but get exploited. I agree with Cenk's other points, but I don't think you can use the gay marriage argument to say that Obama's not liberal, when none of those other presidents even had it as an issue on their tables. At least, not by the graph shown here by Cenk. That seems like an unfair hurdle if it's not used with ALL of the presidents and not just Obama.

I agree with some of these points, but it seems that you could pick other facts to make the spectrum look like it is moving to the left. My biggest problem with the clip is the spectrum "chart", which makes a good thought experiment look like scientific certainty. I also think that Cenk is using the wrong type of graph.
As has been noted, the question "how does being against civil rights put you on the right of the spectrum?". Thing is, why is the graph 2-dimensional?
I think the 3 dimensional graph is a better choice.
Cenk mentions that some of the presidents are progressive in some ways, but not in others, but the graph doesn't show that.
I like a lot of what Cenk says, but this could've been presented better.

I'm a liberal myself, but I have a problem with Cenk's logic.
I agree with Cenk's other points, but I don't think you can use the gay marriage argument to say that Obama's not liberal, when none of those other presidents even had it as an issue on their tables. At least, not by the graph shown here by Cenk. That seems like an unfair hurdle if it's not used with ALL of the presidents and not just Obama.

I agree with some of these points, but it seems that you could pick other facts to make the spectrum look like it is moving to the left. My biggest problem with the clip is the spectrum "chart", which makes a good thought experiment look like scientific certainty. That just reminds me a bit too much of the tactics used on Fox News and the like.

Why do you think our debt is so high? America shouldn't be far right tho, because that is anarchy. Government must protect us and our businesses, but we've stretched the definition of "protect" far too much, so now we are dependent on the government for more than it can handle.

He lowered taxes on the richest 1% but spent TRILLIONS of dollars and sky rocketed the deficit with wars and enormous pharma expansion. Furthermore, he eroded personal civil freedoms with the authortarian (rightwing) notion that we needed military protection. AND he expanded the military (government)

I have seen talking heads on Faux News saying this a center right country, and I often wonder how do they know that? The fact is, its true, and it has lot to with Ronald Reagan, and the right wing supreme court.
Also, it doesn't help when, we, liberals run away from being liberal, and give up on what we believe and try to placate wing nuts, and be like them. Obama is a good example that and utter disappointment for those of us who worked hard to get him elected.

That said, I believe we need a much smaller government. Our government has committed a multitude of evils, but it is wrongful to blame them on one party. That is what both parties attempt to get their drones to believe, because BOTH parties are equally guilty of the evils this government has done. Eisenhower warned against the military industrial complex and now look where we are. Fighting two wars, with hundreds of troops in bases in Japan, Korea, Germany, and Cuba. Yes I do blame the Cold War on alot of the shit we've gotten ourselves into but now that the cold war is over, we really need to bring our troops back home. Compare our revolution with that of the French, ours was unquestionably more conservative. Plus, when Eisenhower was elected, there was little social security, no Medicare, no Medicaid.
So how exactly did Medicare and Medicaid move us to the right?
Basing it on Foreign policy decisions is a joke considering the fact that the Republicans changed from anti-war to pro war, and the Dems changed from pro-war to anti war

The new political center is unmistakably right wing. Cenk is just one of the few commentators who is willing to admit that on a major network program. The reason Obama is loosing ground in the polls probably has a lot more to due with the fact that he has ignored his base, the people who got him elected, in favor of appeasing the extreme right. Obama needs to wake up and realize that his continuous pandering is hurting the country and eroding his political capitol.
