    They are more left wing than the Conservative Party yes, but they have moved significantly to the right since the 80's . Crime rates are always highest in large cities, and crime is always highest in low income areas, which happen to be in cities, because that's where people go for jobs, but get exploited. And yes crime rates have gone up in Norway, but they too have become more right wing since the 80s cont.

    Tony Blair was a "third way" labour mp, as was Bill Clinton (for the democrats though), so they were still pretty right, and those two countries dragged everyone with them so that even their left wing politics were more centre than left. Have you not realized that countries that were more regulated (Canada, Sweden, Switzerland, Norway etc.) are in much better shape than the less regulated countries (US, UK, Italy etc.)

    Greece had a Conservative party in power from 2004 to 2009, they were the ones that set the country up to fail. Spain and Portugal did have left wing governments leading up to the recession, but if you watched the video you would understand that what is "left wing" today would have been called "right wing" before Reagan and Thatcher policies. France has had a right wing government since 2002, Germany 2005, Netherlands 2002. cont

  • A major problem with politics is where people incorrectly label things "right-wing" and "left-wing". It should be divided into "Corporatism", "Socialism", and "capitalism" (at least on the economic side. Social issues need another chart).

  • There was a bit of a reaction in the '80s on some things like taxes, welfare and crime. But I think that american 'liberals' and Democratic Party have become 'conservatives' in the sense they mostly focus on defending the post-60s status quo now. Entitlements, high immigration levels, affirmative action, and 'humanitarian intervention' are all policies from that era that have become entrenched because mainstream 'progressives' AND (neo)conservatives support them to varying extents.

When I said far left i was overstating it, but that is where we are going (we are not far away from Europe anymore). For us to be more to the right, we would have much lower taxes and not a government that expands its power this much every year. We haven't been truly right since the 20's

    As has been noted, the question "how does being against civil rights put you on the right of the spectrum?". Thing is, why is the graph 2-dimensional?

    I think the 3 dimensional graph is a better choice.

    Cenk mentions that some of the presidents are progressive in some ways, but not in others, but the graph doesn't show that.

    I like a lot of what Cenk says, but this could've been presented better.

  • I'm a liberal myself, but I have a problem with Cenk's logic.

    I agree with Cenk's other points, but I don't think you can use the gay marriage argument to say that Obama's not liberal, when none of those other presidents even had it as an issue on their tables. At least, not by the graph shown here by Cenk. That seems like an unfair hurdle if it's not used with ALL of the presidents and not just Obama.

  • I agree with some of these points, but it seems that you could pick other facts to make the spectrum look like it is moving to the left. My biggest problem with the clip is the spectrum "chart", which makes a good thought experiment look like scientific certainty. That just reminds me a bit too much of the tactics used on Fox News and the like.

Why do you think our debt is so high? America shouldn't be far right tho, because that is anarchy. Government must protect us and our businesses, but we've stretched the definition of "protect" far too much, so now we are dependent on the government for more than it can handle.

  • I have seen talking heads on Faux News saying this a center right country, and I often wonder how do they know that? The fact is, its true, and it has lot to with Ronald Reagan, and the right wing supreme court.

    Also, it doesn't help when, we, liberals run away from being liberal, and give up on what we believe and try to placate wing nuts, and be like them. Obama is a good example that and utter disappointment for those of us who worked hard to get him elected.
