The animals the bear killed looked healthy, but were smaller animals. Yes, Nature is cruel. Another aspect of this is there may be too many bears, and not enough hunters. Wished I were there with my rifle . i would have loved to bust that bear's ass.

No animal in an ecosystem is pointless :S You need preditors to keep the prey animals down. Without them the animals that would be kept at low numbers would suddenly have a giant population burst and destroy the whole ecosystem.

This is nature at it's best. It can seem cruel but really it's not. That bear didn't attack those ox because it was mean or evil or anything like that. That bear has to eat. It's that simple. It's called NATURE. This happens every day in the wild, whether it's a Bear in Alaska or a Lion taking down an Antelope in Afirca. And, it's a beautiful thing.

The Musk Oxen reacted to the threat and did poorly. Might have something to do with the fact that they are Musk Oxen and not people. They don't deserve to lose their young because they didn't make any complex decisions. It's all instinct.

The oxen defence circle kinda fail. They should stand in circle heads pointing out but around 0:30 you can see many oxen standing rear end against bear. Not very clever.
I bet the oxen didn't even realize how close the bear was until it dashed forward.
