Yes you are right and this is because these states get little back compared to what they give to the gov't. I live in a small town in NJ, and we get about 3% of what we pay back from NJ, who also gets a small amount back from the gov't. Of course there is always corruption here, but ignoring that still most property tax money goes to poor urban areas like Newark and Camden, mostly for education. The state aid for education was just cut by 89% in my town by the man I voted for.

well, also in this time, people have went from being one bad harvest from starving to death, to one of the biggest problems being over eating, along with many other examples I wont cite here
4 the first time in civilized HISTORY; 5,000+ years of absolute destitute poverty for virtually every person. For the FIRST TIME IN HISTORY, poverty is being removed, and you're not happy with how fast its going?
So I guess you should tell me, what is the correct amount of time for progress on this scale?

@SecretHolder Glenn, and anyone w/ a brain would rather have 5 winners. The only way for everyone to be equal is for some entity(let's say government, shall we?) to make it so. And the equality would be a greatly degenerated standard from what liberty would allow in pure capitalism. Socialism has failed society at every turn. It is bringing the US to it's knees.

The way I see it, this just leads to slavery. People end up working hard to make a paycheck, %70 of it ends up going to the government or more... But hey, thats okay, because the government then provides for you what you need (Health care, food, etc...). Essentially, they're taking your money from you, giving it back, and expecting you to be grateful. You're working FOR the government, even if your in a private sector job. It may not be like that now, but if we let it grow... well....

Socialism sucks. Everyone should pay their fair share. There are a few blue states in America footing the bill for everyone else. NJ, NY, CA, etc. These states pick up 80% the tab for every federal program including the wars we are fighting. Let the other states go bankrupt. These goddamn welfare cases like South Carolina and Alabama, wipe them off the map already. Why do I have to work hard and pay taxes, so some redneck kid in Tennessee can go to school? @GGstrikesfat You do understand that the vast majority of the welfare state is paying out to the inner cities. Blue states that live off the consumerism of their urban areas are the ones going face first into bankruptcy before any other state.
NJ, NY and CA are among the states deepest in the red when it comes to unfunded liabilities and crippling public sector union pension payments.
Unless you're being ironic, my mistake, it was lost on me, you can never tell these days.

Yes you are right and this is because these states get little back compared to what they give to the gov't. I live in a small town in NJ, and we get about 3% of what we pay back from NJ, who also gets a small amount back from the gov't. Of course there is always corruption here, but ignoring that still most property tax money goes to poor urban areas like Newark and Camden, mostly for education. The state aid for education was just cut by 89% in my town by the man I voted for.

You guys who mentioned the USSR should understand why it failed. It is a system that assumes an erroneous view of resource production and consumption, political regulation and distribution. There is no impetus to innovate; the fools had to steal factory plans and technology from freer countries. It simply cannot work in reality.
As for Alan Greenspan- his statement is worthless given the context. He was man-handling a mixed economy, it was regulation that failed.

One of the smartest acolytes of Rand, Alan Greenspan, admitted that his Randian inspired ideology (i.e. that free markets will regulate themselves) was wrong. If he has admitted defeat, then Beck and Brook should as well.

ayn rand fled the USSR in the early 1920s because of the tyranny she saw. this tyranny is often mislabeled as communism, socialism what have you, when in reality it was leninism. lenin distorted some of marx and engel's most fundamental steps (i.e. revolution in a modernized, capitalist country), and he and the USSR consequentially stumbled, never coming very close to actual communism.

And listen to the same old "Red Scare" which we heard from the 1940s-thru Reagan-Bush, Sr. These are the same "Every human life is sacred" types who've lived in "Oddsville" all their lives. Beck is a categorical liar--his father did not commit suicide nor was he ever a big drinker or any kind of druggie.

Well, #9, the argument that because a person is anti-Beck, he is automatically a socialist is not a winning argument. Do you favor legal immigration? If you do, you are a traitor and you are the one who should leave out. And looking at capitalism, i.e., the ultra-waste, (we have the retail capacity for 1.5,000,000,000 in the U.S.), we see we shouldn't be bragging.
