  • Parody of what music ?

  • @laisrodrigues331 it's not a parody, completely made up by hugh laurie

  • can you plz make a tutorial to this song. i know you said your not good at theme but

    plz.

  • It's not Born in the USA - it's not any actual song by Springsteen or anyone. It was just made up for the sketch on Fry & Laurie and he looked a bit like Springsteen on the sketch. The joke is that it's like so many American singers who sing about "America...America...".

  • @hilseymour Thank explanation actually makes a lot of sense, thank you!

  • Damn.. I always wanted to play this song and I tried forever to figure out what he was originally using as the song for parody, but I never could find anything.

    Great job!

  • Great Job!! 5 Stars!!

  • Great job, I wish only, there was a tutorial. If you are currently making it - hurry up :)

  • Yes, but have you been on the "Ultimate Musical Snob quiz on Facebook"?

  • Yeah, come on. Make a tutorial for us.

  • awesome job dude!!!!! really great!

  • @madzoe is it a dude? i thought it was a woman... :O

  • Ik heb het ook al geprobeerd om dat liedje op men piano te spelen:p maar jij doet het veel veel beter dan mij ^^

  • This is awesome. You did a great job on this. I think you should write it down or something(unless you do have it written down). This is fantastic.

    5/5!

  • wow briliant

  • Well done! Have you considered posting sheet music or a tutorial?

You might want to pedal a little more often, it sounds a little clutted sometimes, i.e. 0:06-0:10

  • Brilliant

  • aww man. i wish there was sheet music. awesome job though!

  • Thank you soooooo much for posting this video. I was looking for this.^^

  • woud you care to send me the sheet music or tabs?

  • read ->

  • oh I see. Sorry. Sometimes I just dont read the text.

  • believe me, you're not the only one! please remember to read it next time before you ask something though :)

  • You shoulda tried singing it! Great stuff, I'll try out the chords tomorrow morning.

    Brilliant show, that was.

  • Hugh Laurie plays a very similar track for the song "Where is the lid ?"

  • btw its the same song exactly. if u could the number of sylables a-me-ri-ca and where-is-the-lid. exactly the same.

  • Not completely the same. "America" is G, Em, A, C, G, D. "Where Is the Lid" is G, Em, Am, C, G, D. That's why "America" sounds more Beatlesque. Neither song is even remotely close to "Born in the U.S.A.", though. If anything, Neil Young's "Helpless" sounds closer. The Springsteen bandanna was probably just a general poking-fun at that kind of working-class, "heartland" singer-songwriter (eg. John Cougar Mellencamp).

  • The original song is Born in the USA.

  • The Bruce Springsteen one?? Because that doesn't sound anything like it melodically- but it kind of makes sense with that one sentence being repeated over and over! Thanks!

  • THANK YOU!!!

  • HI, you are really good.

    For some help:

    I think its G-D/F#-e-D-A/C#-a/C-G

    MFG

  • Wow that was really good! I love that song, and you played it very well indeed :]

  • god i love that show it is so hilarious oh and house yesssss oh yess

  • i thought u were gonna sing amercia!!! Ameericcaaaaa!

  • You just need someone to pop out and punch you in the nose, then it'd be perfect! Great playing though.... he's a great song writer, sometimes people don't realize that when all they see is the acting. Good job though!

  • Yeah, I thought it better to skip that last part ;) thanks!

  • Even though some blood spatter would be great on the white piano. At least as a prop for Dexter. ;)

  • I'd rather not end up like Dokes... ;)

  • But until you end like him, you could swear like him. Which is hilarious.

  • I don't know anything about chords hardly, it would be very helpful to me if you could tell me if the chords you listed are minor or major etc.

  • If there's not a small letter m behind the chord name, it's always major.... a slash like A/C# is that it's an a chord, but you play a C# (C sharp note) with your left hand.

  • I do not know it, how let me set about it. I don't have sheet, and my piano playing by ear isn't very well... but i want to learn... IDK /You are awesome/

  • That is just so much fun to listen to!!

  • Could you do another video slower with instructions on how to play.

and by the way are you a beatles fan?

  • nice man

  • that is SO bloody awesome!

  • Fantastic playing there man! Im a huge Hugh fan and I love his music! I realise you played this by ear but I seriously wish I could play this like you!

  • thank ou very much!

  • How long have you been playing piano? do you know where I could perhaps buy his sheet music from? Been watching your video over and over to see if I can remember the keys but to no avail!! so sad!!

  • The sheetmusic doesn't exist as far as I know, I wrote the chords on the right - maybe that helps?

  • Thank you! Will give it a go! Looks fantastic tho! You got a talent there! Make sure you use it!

  • u r good man so good!

  • you are a god!! i´m your fan!!i love you! i´m from spanish and i play the piano too, but i want the notes of Hugh´s songs but i find but i don´t know where find them please say me

  • As you can read in the description I am playing by ear so i do not have the sheetmusic, thanks for the comments though!!

  • Loses something without the bit where you get punched in the face.

Ha, I should leave that comment on every movie on YouTube. But you know what I mean.

  • LOL, yes I know what you mean. Can't say I mind it in this particular case though ;)!

  • Congratulations... I think this is a great piece of music as well! Well played.

  • YE man... do you have sheet music for this??? I cba transcribin it :D

  • Ye man, red the description :)!

  • Hugh's a great song writer... does lots of music on the quiet... that sounded very good, great playing :)

  • very good! its not a springsteen song, its a parody of the blindly patriotic songs that came out during the 70's and 80's ("proud to be an american" being the most obvious example). and i doubt its a parody of springsteen because none of his songs are blindly patriotic ("born in the usa" is very critical of the US). awesome playing tho!

  • Wow, very good! I'm not that great at playing by ear. I need sheet music. Ha. You should play the Where Is The Lid song. With the lyrics and all. ^_^

  • Your realy really good at playing that really got to me and im really picky about music nice! great looking piano as well.

  • wow, you're great! =)

I play piano as well, but not that good... =/ :P

  • I love this song... Hugh rocks!

  • AWESOME!!! Would really love if you made sheet music or tabs!!! =D
