@harrison28514 .....yo. the purpose of Shirasaya is to allow the blade to "breathe". the wood is left raw so that moisture can evaporate instead of staying in contact with the blade. it is usually used in long-term storage and is not recomended to practice cutting in Shirasaya because the sweat and oils from your skin will leech into the wood and affect the blade, as well as making the surfase of the wood sliperry thus making it dangerous to swing around.
im 12 and I am going to do martial arts and follow the Bushido code, and I must say thats a nice blade
