They are still going strong...40 year anniv next year at Tamworth in January 2011. Well worth a visit...like old times! I remember those dances at the Sydney Town Hall in the 80s...memorable indeed!
YES! The Australia Day dances at the town hall in Sydney were brilliant! Absolutely THE best times of my life. I used to take holidays in January and go to all (or most of) the gigs. All that leaping about to sheep songs. God I miss it.
The time has arrived where this traditional style of Aussie "Bush Dancing" + the old traditional bush-music songs, needs to be revived. Does anyone out there remember doing these kind of dance-parties, with The Bushwackers playing & calling the dance-steps, at places like the Sydney Town Hall, around the late 70s / early 80s ?? Goes to show .. you don't have to be blitzed-out on booze, or drugged-up on ectasy, dope or speed, to have a good night out.
