I have one of those,hes ungrateful most of the time and all,i do not know why he still dose not like being held. The best thing to do to keep your turtle clean and healthy is to put a little bit of clorox in his water. About one cap for 5 gals of water. you can even use clorox in to disinfect water to drink in case of emergency.

Yess is it red-eared slider? but before anything don't let it roam around outside your sight it could get lost! and yes u can let him sleep in water but put a rock next to it. this is basic and make sure he's out of the cold. tcrisp is right look up what kind it is on the internet on google thy will show u pics to determine (: turtle's usually need a spicific temp of water usually warm and comfortable not too warm. see if he is very wriggly and anxious means he is'nt comfortable just put a rock

u should never leave a turtle outside without supervision especially at night (: give him love and care and he'll be happy or she. u should take it to a vet though and confirm everything with him or her before making too many decisions. (: if u don't hav a good vet where u live then try to find out the type of turtle and i'll ask my vet what to do. I love helping animals so i don't mind helping u (:

A few other things to look for.

make sure it isn't struggling to dive and surface in the tank. It should look effortless.

if possible ask the pet store/breeder to feed the turtle while your watching, if it has difficulty going after its food, could indicate a problem. If they say they just fed it, ask when they are feeding it next and come back.

Never buy the runt of the clutch

Considering some species can live for 80 years its worth waiting that extra day or two to make sure they r healthy.

yes, box turtles love it.... and they love the humidity.. i soak it in hot water for a while, and when it cools, but is still warm, just kinda clump it in the corner, and she has a box... i can tell shes happy when shes completly burried and she pokes her head out all far... you just gotta pick it outa their rear legs everyonce in a while, its kinda hard at first, but im used to it...

If ur trying to keep it inside, make sure he can bask, they need a special light so they can get all the stuff from the sun. Otherwise they could die.

worms are good idea for feeding, or some type of lettis.
