  • fattest pet store fish I have seen. you always do a great job pond guru. ps im sure the aquarium society will be impressed you have a great shop there.

  • Believe it or not, we're one of the smallest stores but have the best range of freshwater tropicals (in the north east) The shop is pretty much a fish house with dry goods, not the other way round like most places.

  • Do you know the size potential for these Angels?

One of my Pearlscale Angelfish is hitting close to 10" (tall, inc Dorsal/Anal fin), 8" (length, inc tail) and 4.5" (body size, standard length - not including the tail), probably around 2.5 years old if my memory serves me right.

  • As they are a form of scalare, I would expect the same growth as a normal angelfish.

  • Were these imported from 'pinoyangelfish' on Youtube?

  • Indirectly, yes. These are bred from Ken Kennedy fish that came into the UK to our scottish supplier.

  • @pondguru

Amazing, the one shown at 1:00 looks good, in fact they all look fat and healthy. Ken sure makes beautiful Angelfishes, especially those with iridescent colour.

  • The electric blue rams and all the other small cichlids are looking so good since we started feeding the high protein food and less frozen. We are getting an aquarist society from Scotland visiting (up to 30 members) at the end of the month so I really hope they are impressed with the quality and range we've got in at present

  • My angelfish just swallowed a ghost shrimp that is too big for it. Now the fish is just sitting there gasping with its mouth wide open. Im worried. What can I do?

  • Not much really - it will swallow it hopefully. If it has swallowed it tail first you could pull it out but not if its swallowed it head first due to the design of shrimps.

All this may be too late as it was 13 hrs ago since you made this comment - just seen it this AM.

  • Some of those have really bloated stomachs. Whats up with that? looks like over feeding to me

  • Yeh, they had been fed a little too much. Just as well we've got the K1 moving bed filter in that tank as there's gonna be some ammonia. Note to self: Do not feed fish more than they can comfortably eat.

  • @pondguru Either way, those fish are active and strong. Props on the fish well kept.

  • Nice plump bellies on them. Good to see, as shipping can be rough, and any loss would be really bad. But please tell me the albinos are going for less than the norms?

  • I'm not a fan of albinos but apparently they are one of the more sought after breeds and are the sme price. Some people love them.

  • Would not have seen that coming. There are very few albinos that I like. But you have to admit, albino paradise fish look stunning.

  • They are one of the few I would choose over the natural colour.

  • Can I try and take a stab at the others?

  • I don't allow people to stab the fish or bang on the tanks as it causes them stress and death.

You could have a go but I don't know wether I could remember all the types to confirm you were right.

  • I've just noticed that in this video, the fish aren't albinos - they are platinum. Apparently you need to breed a Platinum with an Altum to get certain species carrying the blue gene. Discaimer: I could be totally wrong on that as there is alot of disinformation associated with the rarer bloodlines of any species.

  • Where did you get these from? I like them a lot :)

  • We got them from a breeder in Scotland. I think we got 100 mixed blue gene angels and they are selling quite well. They are from the Ken Kennedy strain of 'Pinoy' angels which you'll see in the related videos on the right. Tyne Valley Aquatics is one of the few shops in the country to have these fish in so I'm glad the guy offered them to us when there are many more (much longer established) shops in the country.

  • @pondguru Where are the angels from? What country?

I really wish I could see the store haha! Sounds like an awesome place. You guys do an awesome job taking care of those fish, they look great!

  • The original breeder is from the USA, called Ken Kennedy. The breeder we got them from is in Scotland and got some of the fish from K.Kennnedy. If you look at the related videos down the right, 'pinoyangelfish' is Ken Kennedy's channel. If you get in touch with him he my be able to tell you where he has supplied in the US.

  • @pondguru I think I've heard of him. Unfortunetly my tanks water isn't suitable for angels. I used to be able to have them, thrive but now, not so much for some reason.

  • These ones were bred in pH 7.2 but we keep them in pH 6.5 which is softened with peat. We keep all the rarer species of angels, discus and dwarf cichlids in nice soft water with pH hovering around 6.5.

Usually the tank bred fish are fairly tolerant of water conditions but we like to give them fairly natural conditions to improve condition and colouration.
