  • why does your navigation not work? or does it?

  • @prehistoricparodies, it does! But I never bought the accessory to enable it. So lets say it's GPS ready.

  • wow thanks for showing us how to insert and eject a cd, and switch to tuner when it was already on the tuner. Simply amazing. Have you thought about going into sales at all?

  • @4pples thank you for your support by viewing and commenting on my video! =D

  • This may have been asked already, but can this integrate with the volume and mode controls on my stearing wheel?

  • @anemeth32904 I've heard it's possible but it requires a special adapter. I never did it.

  • can you hit the camera button while driving to see behind you with the reverse camera? for instance, to see just how close the jackass whose tailgating you actually is? lol

  • @LeadSlinger89, LOL, yes, I believe you can. I just don't have it set-up that way.

  • So after looking at you other videos so i dont look like an ass for asking a question.

1: How fast is the volume control reaction time? Is it able to turn the volume down fast with it being a pain in the ass. Im a fan of having a knob to turn the volume down.

2: How fast does it react when controlling a ipod with onscreen controls? Ive seen a lot of stereos that you can hit fast forward on the stereo and it takes a while for the ipod to react. Thanks and thumbs up on all your vids.

  • @ownTer, no worries. :)

    1) It's a step-type. If you hold the button down, the volume indicator comes on and after a split second, it shoots whatever direction you're holding pretty fast. I think it takes very little pressure, just enough that because you barely touched it, it's going to go in every direction. Maybe the best way to describe it, it takes as much energy as you gently poking your friend or love one to get their attention.

    2) Sorry, no iPod. :(

  • Thanks you sir.

  • Can you change the color to match your dash lights?

  • @davk0613 negative.

  • That's nice I just got the vx409 clarion but can you help me were do you connect the brake safety wire to?

  • @ninalo123 just hook up to the wires that that are part of the "contact" when you engage your parking brakes. It's hard to describe but see if you can get a copy of the OEM repair manual from the forums and that will help tremendously.

  • do you recommend it? and will any reversing camera be compatible?

  • @qwerty158 I would. It's a great unit but I think they have a more recent version of mine now. But yeah, I love mine. Most universal reverse cams should work.

  • @MastrLy33 thanks alot mate! is the screen removable too?

  • @qwerty158 You're very welcome! Negative on the removable screen.

  • @MastrLy33 Hello I have this head unit and I just got a reverse camera. The manual is very vague about a rearview camera install. Do I have to connect the purple/white wire to the (+) of the camera and then connect them to the (+) of the reverse bulb to get the unit to display video when i select reverse? Thank you in advance

  • @Mcstikman you will have to connect both the positive wire from the camera and the purple wire from the headunit to the positive wire of the reverse bulb.

  • @MastrLy33 Thank you

  • I will be putting this in my nissan 350z 05 this summer, I was looking at this and a pioneer which is similair, Does this have GPS and whats your opinion on this device?

  • @Squirrely710u I like the unit very much still but GPS is optional. You'll have to buy it separately.

  • Nice video and write up.Thanks to this review I just bought the unit and similar camera. Could you let me know if the camera only works in reverse. What if I want to view while in drive, do I have to rewire or there is a feature in settings?

    Thanks!

  • @Zastarskis, thank you for checking this video out! There is a feature to go to the camera mode as a "video input" but it all depends on the wiring. So, you're right, you will have to rewire.

  • ya is the volume a bitch to turn up and down?? can you hold it down and have it go up all at once or do you have to click it for every little level?? do you get what im asking??

  • @dskater153, yes, I get what you are saying. :) You can hold it down and it will go up or down pretty fast.

  • Id buy this, but the volume adjustment looks like a bitch to use. Don't want to get blasted and wait 5 mins to turn the volume down.

  • Hey will u please explain how u made it to where the camera pops up without pushing the camera button. My camera only has two connections. One black wire which I grounded to the frame and one red wire that I spliced into the positive wire of my reverse light bulb. And then one connection for the video cable. Is yours like this? And did u order that cheap camera off eBay from hong kong?

  • @davidgrisanti, splice the red "reverse wire" from the headunit harness into the red wire of the camera, anywhere on the red wire, which is the positive power to turn on the camera. See more details in the link I provided in the "description" part of this video I made.

  • rather have this than $3000 factory package.

  • @kalargyi Absolutely! Stealer-ship!

  • Excellent simple vid. I myself I'm looking at getting one. What u did with the reverse gear and cam was sweet! I'll check the link for more info on the camera model, etc. When I'm on my desktop. I'll be looking into getting it too if I'm going this route. Thanks again.

Btw, by chance do you have an iPhone? Would I need to buy a separate cable to connect it and use it's features? Or plugging it into the USB with a sync cable will work?

And does the hd radio come built in or do I have to buy a

  • @wickedestman I don't have an iPhone but if it connects like an iPod does with the same interface, then I would imagine it is all treated the same. This is only a theory. :) The HD radio is separate.

  • @MastrLy33 thanks so much. posted from my iphone so the last bit got cut out. I found your forum posts as well and i must say excellent job!

  • @wickedestman, thank you and I'm g lad it worked out!

  • I just got my VX400 installed today its very interesting so far loving it! I was wondering is it safe to use USB splitter? one connect to ipod and other connect to others? i notice while using blue tooth with my a/c is on other people on the phone cant really hear as much do you have that issue too? thanks in advance

  • @jdqcivic4dr, on the USB, I'm not sure if it is good to use a splitter. If both are going to be sending data, like two iPods, that might cause some problem. Honestly, I'm not sure. You might have to check with Clarion customer service. On the A/C, I think it might depend on where your vents are but for me if I do have it on max and recirculating the air in the cabin, then yes, I do run into the same problem. I just turn the air down a little and then it's fine. Congrats on your purchase!

  • How did you make the rear cam start automatically by shifting gears? Mine does not work unless I press the camera button

  • @prasbuttons I wired a lead wire into the reverse wire of the harness. I connected the lead wire into the positive wire of one of the reverse light bulbs.

  • where is the rear usb port located?

  • @playah106

There is a bundle of wires that lead from the back of the unit but I had to use an USB extend cable to lead it to the front so I could use it. The original wire was too short.

  • @MastrLy33 ya but where is the plugin at?

  • @playah106

I put mine along the right side of the shifter but snaked it down to the carpet. It is under the plastic of the center console on the right side and very close to the passenger seat., aiming downward.

  • can i play a video dvd while the car is on the move?

  • @zodhyoz

    Nope, it's blocked out.

  • I just got one, however when I go to load up a disc it just rattles around in there.

  • what kinda of camera you got on there

  • @djhershey91

Just one I ordered from China. If you check the link in the description, it goes into detail of the camera. It was dirt cheap so I took a chance.

  • name of the song at 1:40 please?

  • @lancer7610

It's a mix by Freq Nasty. I got it so long ago, I don't remember. He had put together a whole bunch of songs and put them on an AOL music channel. Sorry!

  • What is the brand of the reverse camera did you used with this Clarion?

  • @MrThanghdo

Some generic brand I got from eBay. Check out the link in video details for the exact link to eBay!

  • just bought this headunit for my frontier.

    btw what movie was that?

  • @cybereclipse Congrats! I believe it's Bad Boys 2.

  • how does the blue tooth sound?

  • @mickeys2663

It sounds really good from what I've been told. The microphone is built into the head-unit so you might have to speak a tad louder but overall still not a bad deal. I even stream music from my phone and it sounds good too. The bass is not super loud but the clarity is very nice.

  • Does it play DVD-R and stuff? Does it read DivX and AVI and so on?

  • @JinAura6 Yes but I've only done music on DVD-R and only MP3 formats. I haven't had a need to explore other video/audio formats. I don't want to quote anything incorrectly so check out their official page at Clarion's website. They have the entire user manual in PDF form.

  • alright cool man i just ordered mine and can't wait to get it

  • Out of 5 with 5 as the best, 4!

  • how do you like the headunit overall?
