  • I was really in to the video, but then 9:52 happened n I WTFed.

  • I have a 1545 with a dual processor it works great. Now that I have seen your vid I think I will upgrade my old lap top just because of you great ease of doing.

  • Thank you so much you are the best!

  • I really must ask where you bought the processor from. I can never seem to find anywhere to buy mobile processors anywhere :(

  • @bloodryne38 Ebay. They have everything lol.

  • When i play games my laptop shuts himself off and gets really really hot, will this problem be solved after i changed the cpu?

  • @Gamefreakzzzzzz Sounds more like you need to get more airflow to the CPU heatsink. how old is your laptop, and have you ever cleaned the heatsink on it? It may be clogged, causing the overheating because the fan can't get any air over the heatsink fins to cool the CPU.

  • @AK49BWL my laptop is about 1-1.5 years old, and i dont dare to open my laptop parts to clean it all up cause i probs screw up :S , but my laptp does get enough air i bought a cooler for 25 euros, but it sitll feels like 100000 degrees hot lol, what do you think??? is it the CPU ?? if so, were do i buy a new one and about how much will it cost me? Thanks for answering my question so fast :).

  • @Gamefreakzzzzzz either the CPU or GPU maybe. I don't know that replacing the CPU will fix your problem tho... Your problem is with cooling, not the CPU directly. But, I got my CPU from Ebay if you still want to try that... But that's even more in depth than cleaning our the heat sink.

  • How can i tell if my chpset will allow the cpu to work

  • @XboxGamerKidd Find your chipset number (easiest done through a program such as CPU-Z) and then google the supported processors

  • Other than Taking off the back, how do you find out if your CPU is soldered in or not? (Toshiba

    L750D-14U)

  • i want to do the same but i feel i might misplace somethin

  • @MrPurpleham take pictures of where things go if you need to. Before I had a camera, I'd take a piece of paper about the size of the thing I'm working on, and place the parts where they would be inside, on the paper.

  • I hate dell vostros, it's more complicated than others!

  • @thetrutzzi I know... But it certainly gets the job done for me! I just can't see upgrading anytime soon... Well maybe, if the price is right lol.

  • Further, I can't find a site to determine if this bad boy has bluetooth inside it or not.

  • That info will usually be in the device manager...(start -> right-click "Computer", select Manage, go to Device Manager) - If you don't have an entry under "Bluetooth radios" or something similar, then it doesn't... But truthfully, I don't know of many laptops nowadays that come without bluetooth lol.

  • Also, if I can detacch this keyboard, (it looks liek I can), can I buy a third party one that supports backlighting/LED light support? (it's a full keyboard including 10-key)

  • @dragumox3 This depends on whether the 3rd party keyboard supports your laptop. The connector has to match, and the pinouts ON the connector have to match.... Otherwise I doubt it would work at all. Generally you have to find a perfect matched replacement, however if your laptop (from the factory) has the option of using a lighted keyboard, you can generally find a direct replacement on ebay or a computer store maybe.

  • I have a Gateway NV55C 2011 Laptop. Intel Core i3-370M 2.4GHz, 3GB DDR3 RAM, 15.6'' 16:9 HD LED LCD. I'm currently going to upgrade to 8GB Ram, but as far as CPU, I want to upgrade from i3 to i5. But first, can I even do so on this bad boy?

  • @dragumox3 That is something that will depend on your socket type and the computer's chipset... Neither of which I can really answer... My newest computer still runs a Q6600 Core2Quad 2.4Ghz lol.

  • how dare u put ur laptop on ur bed! >:U no breathing room

  • @thegwcf I've done much worse than that I guarantee you, LOL.

  • 03:40 where did u get this sound? i need it for video for school please help need it this weekend

  • @Beatsz540 I made it lol..... It's me saying EWW slowed down to about 70% its original speed.

  • @AK49BWL Haha lol but nice video anyway

  • Thanks for the great tutorial, I loved the humor and helpfulness of the video. Thanks again! Subbed.

  • @bracktheballer Glad you were able to take something from it! Thanks for watching and subscribing :)

  • I do not like you. Thanks anyways.

  • @RodmanShah lol, okay? You're welcome...

  • can i replace my cpu to any other cpu???

  • @aliha9123 No. There are only specific models you can replace a specific model with. Generally speaking with laptops you have to use the same FSB, and you have no choice but to use at least the same socket type, that being LGA775, PGA478, whatever. Also, Desktop PGA478 CPUs are not compatible with laptop PGA478.

  • You are supposed to start out with a rice grain thermal paste not a noodle, but good video though i am going to do this to a amd processor so lets hope this works

  • i got a inspiron 17r about 4 month ago, i was wondering if i can upgrade my nvidia graphic card, my current card is 525m

  • @kevkev047 From what I've found, it is possible *IF* a specific model had more than one graphics card made for it (not including Intel's integrated lines). If the 17r only had the one card made for it (no upgrade options, etc), then no, it's not possible. But, Dell seems to have at least two different options on all of its new systems, so you'll just have to research a little :)

  • @kevkev047 laptop use graphic chip n they are really hard to change

  • my cpu is out dated on my laptop so instead of buying z new laptop is want to just buy the cpu.... I want to do it myself but it seams kinda scary lol

  • @KillfeedOMG it makes it easier if you have a "service manual" open on another machine. it'll tell/show you how to safely take it apart. one thing, don't gob the compound on the cpu, a dab will do you there. rice sized grain on a chip that small would be good. also don't use a screwdriver to get the baked compound. aside from that make sure you have a clean surface for the compound, i use alcoholism and qtips to remove the left over residue. it's never let me down.

  • love ur windows NT workstation startup sound XD

  • Thanks man, i change few hours ago a T5470 to T7500 on my vostro 1500.

  • i have a question mate... will the laptop cpu work on a desktop pc? if replaced

  • @Demadafaka997 Not something I've tried but I would be willing to bet that answer is no.

  • @Demadafaka997 Although if it did work at all, it would probably be very limited functionality... Until it blew up due to the overvoltage because the older socket 478 CPUs required higher voltages to run than these do.

  • I found out why my laptop was only reading half my ram and memory!!! it was because AC adapter was failing to recharge my battery. I was able to get 5.9 Windows Experience Ratings across the board only using a 2.4ghz T7700, 4gb ddr2 ram, 30GB Vertex II SSD, and 8600mGT graphics card. Pretty fast.

  • @jawston9 so buy a new AC adapter for 8 bucks and it will solve all your problems!!

  • @jawston9 8 bucks... Yeah, sure, if I want a Chinese knockoff that will last a little less than a week. I already said, my integrated (read: NOT nVidia, NOT ATi/AMD) graphics are to blame for my low rating, not anything else. My power adapter is just fine.

  • how did you find out what chipset you need? did you call dell?

  • @betrthanu510 It's not about what chipset you need, but what you HAVE. If you look up your laptop on Google, generally it's pretty easy to find out what chipset yours uses, and then you can look up on intel.com what that particular chipset supports. (or AMD.com, but I'm not an AMD guy so idk about how theirs work)

  • @AK49BWL more compatible with amd. am2 will take am2+. am3 and am3+ i can't vouch but i know am3+ sockets can take am3 chips. this is all depending on the tdp rating (in watts). the bus will down clock to the slower bus, board or cpu. the ht is 2x the bus speed in mhz. a bios update might be needed though chipsets don't really matter much. intels are more picky about things chipset bus wattage and the manufacturer's limits in the bios..

  • @betrthanu510 if your laptop is 3 yo like author have, it has socket p (for intel pre-Core iX generation, aka 478) or socket S1G1 for AMD. Laptops above 3 yo have socket M (aka 479) or 754 AMD. There is very useful web - cpu-world, it`s about all processors ever been. The utility speccy let you know your socket and processor. And, of course, you have to google.

  • hey where can u go and check if my computer can handle other types of cpu's ? cause i have an intel celeron and i want a higher one like above pentium 4. where can i go and check the ranks which cpu is better ? cause i cant tell which ones are higher than pentium 4 Please help

  • Very useful video. I'm hoping to upgrade an Dell Inspiron 1300 CPU.

    Thanks.

  • Hello i have a dell inspiron 1545 And i was wondering if i can upgrade the ram to 8gb and upgrade the video cradd beacuse when i start my laptop up it take 1.9gb of ram out of 3gb and i was like AHHHH Soo thank you.

  • @karzygijose It all depends on your chipset. Based on what I've been able to find, you either have the Intel GM45 or the PM45. If you have the GM, graphics are NOT upgradeable. Max RAM for either is 4GB at 800Mhz.

  • @karzygijose If your computer is taking up that much RAM on boot, you have way too many programs starting up. Might I suggest a look into what's starting that you maybe don't want/need?

  • @AK49BWL The programs are desktop and windows.exe that takes 20k each.

  • also, from my understanding of chemistry and physics and other videos etc, you put the thermal paste on really badly (but ive seen much worse attempts)

ideally, you should put a single solid spherical (or rectangular) blob right on the centre without any flaws i.e. uneven/jagged bits that could allow bubbles to form.

then apply flat, even pressure until there is a very thin layer between the CPU and sink.

you did a good job of screwing it in. although i would have been extremely meticulous.

  • @volound Yeah, so I've been told numerous times on this and my xbox video.... lol.

  • good guide. really appreciate it.

why did you decide on that particular CPU? how much did you pay for it?

im looking at its specs and price and it doesnt seem as good as others e.g. no turbo, am i missing something?

  • @volound Well I had to work within the limitations of my mainboard, which being a laptop, is pretty restrictive. The X9000 is the top, most powerful CPU that it can handle. I got it on ebay for something like $180 I want to say.

  • @AK49BWL ahh, thats what i thought.

180 dollars is a good deal. apparently that processor takes overclockings well, too. ive seen it up at 3.2ghz without problems.

thanks for the video and the response. it has really helped me by giving me confidence in my ability to replace a cpu if necessary (which will save me a lot of money in future).

  • Nice video :)

  • hey, does your windows experience index still stay its rated at 2.2? how do you update that

  • @jawston9 It says 3.1 now, so I must have run the tests again... The real bottleneck in my system is the integrated graphics, good ol' Intel can't keep up with graphics-intensive stuff lol. You just go to your System Properties to update it.. Unless you mean make the number higher, in which case you have to replace hardware with better hardware, but this being a laptop, that's not easy :)

  • @AK49BWL interesting... as a core 2 extreme isn't supposed to 3.1... what is your memory rated at? I have 4gb and its still at 2.8, strange huh. The video card, 8600m gt for only 25 bucks on ebay and it boosted up my settings to 5.4 and 4.7 instantly

  • @jawston9 Video card replacement on a Vostro 1500 laptop with no dedicated graphics? Impossible. Can't be done. I've researched that mod specifically 200 times over, I know this lol.

    I run 4GB DDR2 RAM, I believe 533Mhz but not sure, could be 400.

  • Replace the GPU compound aswell. That "pad" that the factory's put on is shit. Lol

  • @ccraig412 I thought about it, but it's integrated graphics and I've never had problems with it so I didn't really worry about it. Next time maybe, if there is such a time lol

  • Also, you used WAY to much thermal paste. Just some constructive criticism.

  • @rowanlewisuk I know.. I've been told enough about that lol, thanks :)

  • Can i upgrade my dell lattitude d531, because i noticed it is a removable cpu when upgradeing the ram

  • @rowanlewisuk Most likely. The only thing you have to figure out is what CPUs are supported by your chipset.

  • @AK39BWL do you know the difference between ppga478 and pga478? your original cpu (T7250) was ppga478 and your new cpu (x9000) was pga478, did you incur any problems, can it be done successfully?

  • @jawston9 There's actually three different specs, but there aren't any discernible differences between them.. They all have the same form factor, and it obviously can be done successfully as I'm currently still using the X9000 :D

  • @AK49BWL dude, thats boss. But damn, should i spend $100-$200 to upgrade an old laptop i received from the dumpster

  • @jawston9 It's all up to you :)

  • what kind of camera did you use??

  • @CharlietoKind I want to say I used my Canon SX230 on this one, but I don't remember.. It may have been my SX20.

  • Hello, and congratulations for the video, you're very good, I wanted to ask you a question:

I have a acer aspire 5735z and I wanted to update it, it features a dual-core T3200 processor, Intel Pentium, 667 MHz FSB, the motherboard is a socket mPGA479M.

How can I upgrade procesorre? Hello, thanks ...

  • could i go from intel pentium to intel core i5

  • @Canada4126 Sure... If you get a whole new computer to go with it... I don't think the two even use the same socket.

  • @Canada4126 no dude, you have to check what new cpu socket matches your original cpu's socket

  • omg! dont use a screwdriver to remove compund! you scratch the heatsink...

  • 3:20 *remembers not using any particular order on own laptop*

Oops. Laptop still works though, otherwise, I wouldn't be commenting.

  • @Adrammalech7570 Hehe. I don't know that it's 100% *required* to do it in that order, but I would personally recommend it... Can't think of any other reason the numbers would be there ;)

  • @AK49BWL Is there a way I can overclock an Intel Core i5-460M on my HP? Temps stay pretty cool since I applied the new thermal paste, and I'm sure it can handle going to 3.0 GHz, or do I need an Extreme Edition processor for that?

  • @Adrammalech7570 I really don't know the answer to that... Generally what I've found is a lot of laptops simply won't overclock at all... While some will, but I believe all but Extreme Edition CPUs are stepping-locked, so you'd have to increase the FSB to get any overclock at all.

  • your using too much compound!

  • i luv the fact tht he is doin all this work to change his processor my laptop i just take the back off and its all right there

  • @R3dShad0w1 I know.. It's sad how difficult they made it for some models... Mine being one of them :/

  • The most powerfull CPU that matches the socket is the i7-2640M (2.8-3.5 Ghz) I think the overheating problem was mostly coz of the dirt covered fan, but after i cleaned it the laptop does'nt heat at all, the sensor does show that the processor reaches upto 80°C but the base of the laptop does't heat at all, and as soon as i quit the heavy tasks like gaming the temp drops to 50-60°C within seconds so i guess keeping ur machine clean is really imp if u want to get the most out of it....

  • @turokkill Pretty insanely high temps if you ask me lol. Yeah, dust can be a killer... Best keep on top of that ;)

  • if my core i5 2nd gen 2.3gh upto 2.9 ghz which has a max temperature limit of 100 celsius reaches 90 celsius how will a more powerfull cpu perform.. it will possibly generate more heat... how powerful can the cpu be in that case..

thanks for this video and the advise

  • @turokkill Well, thing is in my case, the temps actually went way DOWN. My idle with the Core2Duo T7250 were around 115*F, whereas idles with the X9000 are around 85* to 95*F... I swear if it gets any cooler it'll be room temperature lol. Now I can't claim all upgrades will be that good, but the only way to know is to try it ;)

  • thanks for quick reply, i must say after watching this video i couldn't resist opening my laptop and checking what was inside and it's only an hour since i assembled it back, well it was a bit dirty too so i cleaned the fan and all, i even took the cpu out and placed it back just to see how it works and no problems coz of this really educational video..

about upgrading the processor i am gonna wait for a while as high power cpu's are expensive as well generate more heat so my question is that

  • my cpu coller was filthy took about 10 minutes to get every spec of dust out of it!

  • @ AK49BWL hey do u think that is it possible to change the Processor of my VPC-CB15FG from an i5 2410M (DC) to a powerfull i5-i7 (Dual or Quad core) from what i know the socket should be same and some other things are necessary for placing a new Processor but sony completely denies any upgrade for this model rather than the ram. i know that everyone keeps on saying on any threads that i have been to, get a new laptop but i just bought this one 4mnths ago, now only the cpu makes games LAG..

  • @turokkill Check Intel.com for your laptop's chipset. If the chipset can support the CPU and the socket is the same, then it's a high chance the replacement will work just fine. I wasn't able to find anywhere that this laptop WOULD DEFINITELY support the X9000.. But Intel's website said my chipset supports it so I took a chance lol. And it worked! And that's all it is really... Taking a chance and knowing that if it doesn't work, you'll be out the money or have to resell the CPU.

  • unscrew 7 screw, replace the cpu, rescrew 7 screw and done.

  • @LAMPOIXSED Lucky you lol. Unfortunately Dell didn't have the insight to make it that easy until after I bought this one...

  • @AK49BWL i see, but can which is better, amd vision or 1.8ghz pentium dual core?

  • @LAMPOIXSED Couldn't say, that's a war I avoid lol. I've never run anything but intel CPUs myself tho.

  • Look at the temperature O__ omyne is now 43° old thermic of 2 years

  • @Nvidia9700MGT as I write this, mine is sitting at 90°F, equiv to 32°C ... I don't think well in terms of Celsius so that's why the temps may seem a bit high lol; they're in Fahrenheit.

  • @AK49BWL ouf, because in few months I will buy the x9100 and this cpu is overheating up to 103°C !!

but thank you for the response :)

  • with my acer aspire 8930g I have to unscrew 7 screws, it's so easy !

  • I did that once.... R.I.P Happy the ASUS aspire :(

  • Thanks for making this video

  • like thks

  • for the love of god ground yourself before touching components!

  • @massacreman3000 just because I'm not tethered to a ground point and you can't see me doing so does not mean I completely overlooked the need for grounding myself. have done this many times, and I know ESD can kill and my $200 CPU is not on my list of stuff I'd like to fry, thank you very much :)

  • @AK49BWL lol, sorry. didn't see any specific thing you'd done. but i suppose you're smart enough to take apart a laptop, your smart enough to know this.

to be perfectly honest, i got about a minute in and that was the only thing i could think.

    sorry.

  • @massacreman3000 its all good lol :)

  • 3:53 was probably Nudgie's fur ;-)

Were you supposed to apply that thick of thermal compound on the CPU? I was taught (since 92) that the layer should be very thin as possible?

PS. You got the same kitten icon as I do on my Virtual Windows 7 ;-)

  • @drjaymahdi1 It's a stock Win7 icon lol. Never got around to changing it beyond that.

I've seen people lay it on thick and thin, but the way I was taught was to do it thick, because the pressure of the CPU die against the heat sink is going to squish it all out around the sides anyway.. And in the time since this video was made, I've kept an eye on the CPU temp... It actually stays 15F degrees cooler than the C2D I had in here before! Right now it's sitting at 96*F... I can't complain haha.

  • I did that on my old Inspiron 5100 back in the day with a hotter and faster Pentium 4

  • @drjaymahdi1 Pentium 4s sure do have a history of being heat generators... haha! My (sold) Inspiron 8200 had a 2.0Ghz P4 and that sucker would boil an egg I swear... I'm amazed it didn't burn out... But it sure was a powerhouse.
