As a sequel to the original Aladdin this held promise. The story was very good for a sequel but the decision not to do it justice like they did the 1st let it down. I'm certain this would've been criticially acclaimed like the 1st had they gone for the higher production values. This was after all a good concept because Jafar's lamp was only thrown away at the end of the 1st; who was to say no one else would rub it? :)

The main reason this dumb movie was not released in theaters and in fact never should have existed is because:

In every story, the protagonist is the one supposed to defeat the antagonist, and in this dumb movie, Iago controls the entire plot and is considered the main character who does everything, and all the others just get captured and in peril, and Aladdin does nothing but nearly die 4 times and gets saved by Iago.

this is terrible. everything, the copying, the cut corners. even the story. IF this were continuing, why would aladdin be dressed in rags again stealing loot. why would he need jewels when he has the pricess and he's the new prince????? right....

It's not that the budget is low, even though it probably is. But moreso that ALADDIN was done early ninties, and by then the animation team for that movie had been split up. New animators working in different styles were asked to do the sequel, thus why it look simliar but poorly done. Also, obviously not as much time was put in. But listen, I love Disney movies period, even the crappy sequels. XD

In comparison to the first, it is very low budget. Disney tend to do low quality sequels, at least in drawing. But the plots are also really weak many times. This is a little mean because they know people liked the first one, so they will watch the second anyways, they dont have to spend so much money for the second time. Disney's artists are the most talented in the world, but it is so obvious that not the original, Walt Disney, leads the company nowadays.

I have to say I love this one about as much as the first one.

This movie maybe has a weaker plot, but just as good songs!

Even The King of Thieves has awesome songs, man I love this trilogy :P

You weren't a stupid kid, because most kids aren't. I think what happened is you got excited thinking "Aladdin's great! Now I can watch some more Aladdin!" whereas adults can see-through the cheap plots and, as a kid, I'e got to tell you, I wouldn't be impressed by this animation one bit.

It leads into the series. Abis Mal is one of the main villains, Iago joins Aladdin until the end of the third movie when he goes off with Al's father, and Genie returns from his vacation.

I think this movie deserved a little more credit than it got. Certainly not as good as the original movie (Jaffar's human form was re-drawn, they put more red on his robe, made his skin darker, and made him look younger). He looked much better in the original film. But it was still a pretty good film.
