  • Eddie Reader has the best Scottish female vocal that I have EVER heard. She is another lost talent, she should have been more recognised than she is. Big Country ROCK!!!!

  • That fat guy that "sings" for Big Country sucks ass. This band has gong from great to a below average cover band. What a shame.

  • @dondi2261 Is disgraceful that they decided to use the same name. It's not BIG COUNTRY without stuart Adamson. He WAS Big Country. They're just desperate for cash like the rest of us i suppose.

  • R.I.P Stuart

  • wish this song to be reissued someday, would also love to hear Stuarts daughters band cover this song

  • Very sad! :( Great song though, this had to be the deepest of all.

Kind of sad to see that stuart was the only one not in the car at the end of the video.

  • Stuart, why my man

  • Noel Gallaghers new video "The Death Of You And Me" is extremely similar to this, have a little look :)

  • Thank you for posing this. This is one of my all time favorites from BC. Miss you Stuart.....you're forever in our hearts!!!!!

  • makes me sad to see....too many comparisons to the great mans demise! At least his music lives on.....r.i.p Stuart.

  • one of the best singer/song writers the UK ever produced.

  • Someone should tell Stuart's story, if, any one knows it. I thought it odd he moved to America, and lived in Nashville. Who knows? The lure of America - and its vast, empty landscapes and different culture (from his own).

  • Manche gehen zu früh und keiner weiß es, aber der Verlust ist riesig. In stillem Gedenken an stuart. Ich hoffe da, wo du jetzt bist, gehts dir gut, wo immer das ist.

  • holy crap babes am delighted u should this song, but it reminds me of the gud ol days wen me and u were kids 2getha, ur my golden legend, LOVE YOU SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO MUCH!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • holy shit! just came across this yesterday but its the best tune ive eva heard tears me to pieces im like a jigsaw , rip SA

  • reminds me of my holidays in austria and italy when i was young my dad listend to this song much haha. Awesome song

  • I met Stuart outside the Barrowlands in Glasgow, late 80's. Absolutely lovely guy. Wish you were here pal.

  • everyone that likes this song i think we should all buy it because stuart would have been 50 this year and this song should have been number one anyway :D

  • If I won the lottery I'd love to sit in that same chair, in that same cafe, and sing the 'hidden verse'.

  • Wow! Looks like I was really late for this party!

Seriously, I didn't realize this was a Big Country song the first time I heard it. This song and "Winter Sky," which was added to a later CD release of Steeltown in North America also comes to mind because they show that BC could have taken Nashville if they wanted. It's far superior to the drek that's packaged as Country Music!

  • Listened to this around 20 times in a row now and don't plan on stopping soon, one of the most beautiful Big Country songs around (and there are plenty).

  • Brilliant, can't get this melody out of my head...

  • loved this

  • Fantastic ! Thank You Stuart for the legacy you leave us all. RIP a true genius.

  • ! of my faviourite all time greats this song!! Love It!!

  • I've listened to Big Country nearly every day since 1983. Thanks Stuart.

  • miss you lovely man

the years pass, but the pain never eases

  • shouid have been a hit ...for sure

  • @brianbigcountry Sadly sometimes in life you don't realise what you have until it's taken away from you. RIP Stuart

  • @TalkToTheBody He was one of the voice that I could hear and say...that Stuart.. I was in Hawaii when he died, I was so sad....he had a break down...I think he was fighting depression....I don't think people that commit suicide have any clue on how much they mean to people and their families...love his voice...and what he did for the world when he was here...made songs to make others happy...RIP

  • @TheIchiban1974 I do believe he was very depressed, you are right they do not have a clue what they are doing to their loved ones. It is not that they do not care about them but that they are completely disconnected from them by their inner pain, or so I believe. It is very sad, he made a lot of good music during his lifetime and I hopoe one day all the good people in this world meet up in a better place without the badness inflicted upon us by those who prefer to live in a bad world

  • Happy Birthday dear Stuart.

    God Bless.

  • A beautiful and haunting song in every possible way.

  • Eddie Reader makes for an excellent backround on this.

  • 1st saw big country in 85 now i got my 11 year old daughter listening to this song if possible she may love it more than me. if u love this have a listen to troubled man it might just break your heart though.

  • I find it criminal that Big Country wasn't as big ,as say, The Rolling Stones, or U2, or any other huge bands, because frankly speaking, they were better than all of them!

    Stay Alive!

  • @n8tureboy yeah u2 are shit in my opinion, like the stones though.

  • with out a doubt the best band i have ever seen but listening to the songs now makes sad such a sad waste of life never forgotten .mike peters keep it going superb

  • Sleep well Stuart. I first knew of you and Big Country back in 1997. You rock my friend and left your footprint on earth. Love you lots and will always listen to your stuff. Happy dreams.

  • My cat loved this song....once we were listening to it and he spent the whole song licking my face...I wasn't crying....maybe he understood the lyrics

    Both RIP

  • @jerriwillmore Are we to think your cat has good taste in songs or humans??? lol???

  • What a song!!! fucking love it!!

  • This song is yet another example of Stuart's brilliance. The lyric "I could walk a thousand miles tonight and never find my place. At least until it gets to light to hide my tearful face."

  • Lovely.

  • beautiful - miss his songs

  • Beautiful song

  • Great!

  • stuart we miss you greetings from germany to all bc fans in the world

  • Was never a huge fan of Big Country's 90's stuff , but listening to this again just makes you realise they were still coming up with the odd great song , even if they were being largely ignored . I think this is probably Big Country's best video too

  • I think I've just heard my new favourite track, I'm a BC fan who lost touch for years but have my ticket for the London show. Stuarts memory lives on.

  • This song is definitely growing on me, Stuart's voice is gorgeous. At first I wasn't sure what to make of it compared to the first 3 or 4 studio albums and quite frankly if this wasn't Big Country I'd probably by pass it because it doesn't exactly do a whole a lot for me, but I also like this video because Stuart looks good n' healthy.

  • Superbe. Je venais d'acheter le CD qd Stuart Adamson s'est suicidé, ça m'a rendu la chanson encore plus triste.

  • Now that is a beautiful song and video.

  • EXCELLENT..OF COURSE ALL THEIR STUFF IS

  • theres a big void stuart

  • superbe triste et tres profond.....

  • Such a talent, what a waste. Pray that people that are considering suicide know that they are never alone, need to find their spiritual connection, organised religion or otherwise. Catholic fan.

  • @stpaulfan Unfortunately people who are on a lot of alcohol do things they would never do sober.

  • Theres thousands missing you Stuart!!! Believe your music will never die!! Come on Big Country fans......WE WANT MORE!!!

  • I AM A FAN

  • What a lovely haunting melody.

  • RIP Stuart Adamson

  • :) it happen same to me than bluebarron, first time heard this song, even perhaps best band what i ever heard

  • AWESOME.

  • This is song, this video is prophetic. damn the drugs

  • may you all find warmth on those cold nights.

  • Great song. Great, but alas so sad and poignant video (no Stuart in the car at the end). One of my favourite bands.

  • beutiful meloncholic vibe . Makes you yearn for things......

  • This man was an extremely troubled soul. Still saddened by his death.

  • There are no easy answers to emotional crises and no quick fixes either-whatever the 'one hour' clinical psychologists might suggest.

Be happy you are alive and turn up this tune. Don't fret about him: you've sweet living to do. And Stuart only knows what was what (for him) and we will, while we are here, still have these lovely chords.

  • rest in peace big man

  • Miss him and his bros in the band God bless and take care....so sad..love and peace dudes...x

  • emotialy song, when was this puplished in 2000? its sad he looks wicked depressed in this video... i wish he didn't take he's life. stay alive everyone.

  • At one point I thought it might be cool to stay at the Drake. Now it seems perverse. There are so many other ways to respect our hero.

  • great song great band and great singer

    RIP

  • I am so glad my father introduced me to this band when I was younger, I'm only 19 and I think I'm the only one my age that truly appreciates this band.

  • @TRANExWRECK I got my kids into them too, and they are 20, 17 and 15!! They were brought up listening to them lol

Stunning lyrics, and a voice no-one can rival.

  • @ChemicalAngel175 cool..me to,my kids love the sound and true songs...

  • Well I'm 17 and they're still my favourite band. :D

  • i was introduced 2 them when i was 12. now i'm 14 and there my favourite band

  • @TRANExWRECK your not the only one im 22 listened since the age of 7 there isnt bad song they did and stuart was just truly talented and will live in my memory forever

  • @TRANExWRECK I am just like that(love BC) R.I.P. Stuart

  • We lost a nice guy...loved this song.

  • I've never noticed he wasn't in the car at the end either.

    A sad but great song

  • Wow, I never noticed Stuart wan't in the end clip there with the others in the car.

  • I had the pain of alcohol abuse some years ago, now clean. its a crying shame it took Stuart, what a voice and genuine guy.

  • every time I hear this I cry like a baby.Just a couple of points Big Country were not one hit wounders and yes Stuart lived in Nashville for some time. Stuart can also be seen on Matraca Bergs vid back in the saddle. stay alive !

  • Did Stuart go to Nashville for a while ?

  • Lived there the last few years of his life. The waitress in this video was his wife at the time.

  • Yikes! This must have been his second wife then, Melanie Shelley. I always thought she looked like/or could be drummer Mark Brzezicki's sister!

  • this is just amazing song.cant hear it enough.miss you stuart!!

  • Eerie ending, Stuart not being in the car with the other members of the band.

  • wonderful- I must hear this at least once a day...

  • heard this song for the first time today and i dont understand why they were a "one hit wonder" on this vh1 show they were actually pretty good

  • Every one of their fans have asked that I think. Boils down to marketing, they were never marketed correctly for the U.S.

  • thats actually what i believe as well

  • they wern't marketed properly in the uk either. they deserve more credit

  • ive not herd this before.wow!.miss you stuart.r.i.p

  • Fantastic song, really wish I knew him.

R.I.P Stuart, we all miss you.

  • 8 years-still miss him every day

    RIP

  • 1st time i've heard this song, this must be how stuart felt in his final days, what a waste of talent :-(

  • Very profound. He took his life in a motel :( Never heard this song before tonight or the video and it has a sense of destiny for Stuart in it.

    Damn but I miss him

  • Beautiful song, incredibly sad considering what the future held for Stuart...

  • The best song Ive heard in a long time. I love that there's songs out there like this.

  • I mean the same!!! Love this so much...

  • Love all there music but love SHIPS and this one a little bit more. still cant believe he has gone! R.I.P. buddy!

  • Comment removed

  • Dont know why,

But I just had to hear this song tonight !!

  • nothing short of amazing!! soo good to know music like this exists!

  • 2 words: beautiful music

  • Like this however "The Crossing" and "Steeltown" albums are Big Countrys best by far. The haunting melody of "The Storm" has to be my favourite. R.I.P. big man x

  • RIP - I really spend a lot of cold nights missing u !!,

"Love is a small and fragile thing"

  • Why did you know him?

  • missing you so much....

  • must be that goodfellas 'black suit' , and that stare with the sunglasses on that makes him resemble Liotta.

  • Stuart was a genius; saw BC over 70* times; he never remembered me; i'm ok with that....found it hard to talk at times; he'd put me at ease.....just soo friggin' grateful for what he/they left!.....and Tony,Bruce and Mark; all in their own way have/will, still help us to never forget! In their own way..whatever they do.....i doubt Stuart will ever be forgotten!

For as long as they survive; pretty darn sure they'll be 'nods' to Stuart in whatever form; a lasting impression on all of us!

  • Met Stuart twice. One of the nicest, gentlest chaps you could ever hope to meet. What a bloody shame.

At least he left us a few tunes. Still too sad.

  • is that eddie reader singin back up???

  • yup, she did backing vocals on a few of the tracks on the Album Driving to Damascus.

and she is in good company, the last guest vocalist on a song of theirs was Kate Bush on The Seer, from the Album the Seer.

  • Where was I when this song came out?

I spend the long nights missing you...

  • In this video, Stuart resembles actor Ray Liotta a bit facially. Seldom does a day pass in which I lament his passing. .especially in the manner that he left the earth. His brilliance as a songwriter and guitarist is unsurpassed and I'm thankful I got to see him and BC in better times. The mark of a great artist is how they effect the way you feel for years to come. To that end, Stuart Adamson accomplished that. He is truly missed.

  • "It just a shadow of the man you could be, like a garden in the forest that the world never see...."

    Just a Shadow..You Are Missed Stuart.......R.I.P

  • RIP Stuart..we miss you.

  • One of their bests. I feel fragile myself...Stuart deserved better then what he received from music biz.

  • Even now if i walk into our local musicshop for strings or whatever ,i still expect to bump into the bigman, cant believe he's gone.Heartbreaking.

  • i met my hero stuart adamson at salford university after a big country gig. i was in awe of the man. wonderstuff were the support act that night it was in 1987. rip stuart.

  • Awesome,

I spend a lot of cold nights missing u,

    RIP - Stuart

  • Great lyrics - great music - great video. (she does need to cover that gut though.... :P )

  • It can't get any better than this song

I know we all spend much time missing Stuart

  • words that are sadly true, we all miss the voice and songs

  • Yeah, that's true. Some of the songs in the last album are very sad.

  • This is a gem of perfect songwriting. I've never heard loneliness and alienation expressed more truly and beautifully. The part about the "low ballet on the highway" is so painfully accurate.Amazing that a man who connected with so many through his music could write the haunting line "and we have no connection but the darkness and the road." On this seventh anniversary of Stuart Adamson's death I want to say I'm so grateful for what he and his band created during his life.

  • absolutely brilliant! Was lucky enough to see BC several times between 85 & 99. The best live band I've ever seen. God bless Stuart and the chaps for the magical music they gave us over the years.

  • God, this bring tears to my eyes, it was tragic what happenedwith Stuart but his talent and songs will always be remembered the all fans.

  • gr8 song, but that woman is butt-ugly

  • That woman is edie reader of fairground attraction! I bet you say that to all the birds!

  • butt-ugly girls are great in bed, but not very fragile

  • i was lucky to meet stuart,Brighton 95 sadly missed still loved, will never stop listening.

  • one of the best songs ever

  • A beautiful song...Big Country!

  • Gr8 song ;)

  • absolutely perfect...

  • we miss you Stuart

  • 1 word fantastic

  • first time for me to see this video . thanks utahwrx for posting. great job. stuart was truly an artist with not near enough recognition , thanks,,,

  • i was luck enough to meet the band and go on there tour bus greatly miss Stuart and the band they are so down to earth we sat and had a few drinks

  • thanks utah

this means so much to me, and so many others

keep on posting videos, great job man

  • This video is a rare glimpse into the soul of Stuart, a man both brillant and to an extent tortured, by his emotions. I am impressed to no extent with the bravery it took for him to create a video that was obviously so close ... to his heartfelt emotions at the time. Much Respect Stuart!!

  • This is the first time I have seen this video. Thanks for posting it! I will have to try to get the CD. What CD did if come from?

  • It came off Driving To Damascus in 2002.

  • Have to agree with 1966 ere, just read the Lyric's.

Been a fan from the start seen BC numerous time's in UK,it's not just about BC's music but more the lyric's they don't half Hit home.

Rene I can understand the way you may feel about the lyric's in this song but it is a great song.

You know I ofetn wonder if he'd have picked up the phone spoke to someone, easy for me to say.

Like so many fan's out there he will never be forgotten.

Hope you have now found Peace m8

  • now look although its hard to stomach this was the begining of the end of the big man! the torture and torement is totally clear...........god rest big man and happy 50th

  • rene2190

How dare you. This video brings comfort to me and many others. How arrogant to ask for its withdrawal. God bless you Stuart x

  • thunder63. I think you have misunderstood what I said, I'm sorry if it came across as arrogant, I didn't mean it to be, as I am not that at all. It is just that I find this video and song personally very upsetting. I'm pleased that you find it comforting, sorry if I upset anyone, sorry. I am so sorry Stuart died this way and loved his music.

  • Brilliant !!!!!!!

    5 *

  • I suffered from depression all my life so I can relate to Stuart's feelings. I find this video very uncomfortable viewing, I can relate to where he was. I also lost a very dear friend in similar circumstances to Staurt, he was found dead in Israel after going on a bender, we had to tell his daughter the news. I find this video uncomfortable viewing, even unethical, please withdraw it.

  • Sorry this went through twice, I am a bit pissed!!!

  • everyone else likes it so....fuck off.

  • I suffered from depression all my life on and off and this has brought back some awful memories.I was in the same place in my twenties but got better, I can see myself in this video and it scares me. I also lost a dear friend in similiar circumstances to Stuart, it was like a light went out in him, my friend, he disappeared and was found dead in Israel and we had to tell his family the news. There is no way to reach someone who goes this way. This video is like watching someone dying.

  • Saw BC in Phoenix Park opening for U2. they were GREAT then and still are. I also saw them touring BUFFALO SKINNERS at the Stone Pony, Asbury Park, NJ. Another great show. Started listening to them alot in the past three months. I guess my ex-girlfriend triggered it. this song really tears me up ....

  • this song tears me apart?probably the best song ever done?eerm apart from CHANCE?this song probably tells you more about stuart? i hold this song very dear to my heart?i can comply with it?LISTEN

  • he shouldnt ov gon to nashville?

  • he could walked a thousand miles that tragical day, and ask for help, we miss you Stuart, BIG TRAGEDY,, sorry for my english

  • This is a great song but the video makes me sad given what hapened to Stuart. The older I get the more I love Big Country. They were, and indeed are, magnificent.

  • Beautiful song, totally gives me goosebumps all over. Amazing band pity Stuart never got the help he deserved. Thanks for posting the video.

  • how can someone ending up in a Motel at Hawaii only two years later thinking he is alone while thousands of people are looking for him? If you are down and out please seek help, you won't regret it!

  • Wasn't the waitress in the diner scene Stuart's 2nd wife? I saw her on a show the other day, and she spoke about his passing...it must have been shot in Nashville. Does anyone know what year this was released?

  • 1999

  • And yes, I've read somewhere that was his wife. He lived in Nashville the final years of his life.

  • Cool! Thanks for the info. It's such a great song and such a memorable video...such genius and exceptional talent. I have been singing that song all day...and missing Stu. Thanks again!

  • WHOOPS! Sorry, I didn't realize that I was sharing my computer...would have replied under my own name.
