Jesus, this cast made it to Broadway? They're so white-bread. Clueless. And the singer of "Another Hundred People" utterly lacks the cosmic sophistication of Sondheim's vision. What a hideous voice. I suppose it's shot by now.
I love the girl who plays April here -- Her comedic timing and acting are SO unique and perfect for the part. And the Kathy is fantastic as well.
I'm not entirely crazy about Angel's voice, but I think when it all comes down, it fits the 21st century quirky New Yorker girl better than Pamela's brassy belt would nowadays.
I really like this version of the song. And can i just say, I met Angel at the stage door and she was THE NICEST of the entire cast! Such a sweetheart!!
I know it's not a term, I made it up. Traditional belting is of course in no way legitimate, it is forced out. But there is another way to get a bright sound that it not very classical, which is singing off the hard palate, during which sometimes the soft palate drops back down. There really is no such thing as a "mix"; it's simply a different placement, but different explanations and imagery work for different people.
Sorry, I can't help but state that this, as one of my favorite Sondheim songs, is my least favorite performance of the three Broadway productions. Both Pamela Myers from the Original Broadway Cast and LaChanze in the 1995 Cast perform it far better, and don't need to sound like they're shouting. Please invest in those recordings if you appreciate Angel's performance.
I dont think it works for really big 1200+ theatres. Because a lot of the staging of it(not just this production) is very intimate and just kinda stand there and actsing kind of musical. I mean you cant really see the face expressions if youre like sitting all the way back.
I really like how unique Angel sounds for being a female. We're always expecting the Sutton Foster-esque belter voice, but I love the edge that Angel possesses; it's so fresh and new.
Actually I would say that she does legitimate belting. It's obvious that she knows how to sing legitimately, not in a belting style, but when she does belt, it's the healthier kind produced by singing off the hard palate (as opposed to the soft palate or forcing the note out.)
I like the ass joke she said

Awesome! My only wish for this was that they made it more clear how powerful the scene between Robert and Kathy is.

I like the red head, Kathy. She sort of reminds me of Helen Hunt for some reason.

I disagree. Pamela Meyers is very good, but this is another look at an interesting song. There's more than one way to skin a cat!

I think company would work for people who likes intimate small theatre. Does anyone agree with me?

ditto. my college is doing this musical and our theatre is very intimate.

In fact sutton foster isnt really a belter. Sutton is very legitimate. But yes normally we'd expect that from this song.
