Also in the 20th century that wouldn't happen, the cattle would bleed causing the muscle tissue to drie out, so why would a slaughter house/farmer do that. tuna is high in mercury too. i know that these some seafoods are high in mercury, so i consume not very often. i really wudnt like to cut sharkfin out of my diet completely cos sharkfin tastes soooooo good.

Shark FIn is aright, its not as good as Abalones (Bao Yu) I think because atleast you get the chewy taste in abalones, but sharks fins just gt swalloed It nice anyway. But Bird Nest taste sweeter. But its a tad bit cruel :/, but I cant really complain when I have eaten it quite a lot of times :/

Chickens and many other livestock are kept in horrible conditions, there are even reports of baby cattle being skinned alive, kicked and shocked in slaughterhouses. That's just as bad and barbaric, or even worse than shark finning.

Foie gras ducks are not in any danger of going extinct, as they are bred for such purposes. Sharks, however, are wild animals and as they reproduce very slowly, there is a real danger of them being killed off. Extinction is forever. Animal cruelty or not, foie gras is far more sustainable than shark fin.

tuna is high in mercury too. i know that these some seafoods are high in mercury, so i consume not very often. i really wudnt like to cut sharkfin out of my diet completely cos sharkfin tastes soooooo good.

All for the pleasure of one saying, Last night we had shark fin soup, it was 3000 HK dollars. Where is the prestige in this immoral eating habits?..Let alone not to mention alot of Asian restuarants will also offer some more "exotic" dishes. Where they travel to places like Borneo and Vietnam to buy illegal animal parts. Bear claws, Tiger parts, even animals on the endangered species list...If not made into a "special dish " it is then used for medicinal or some kind of sexual stimulant.

I really don't give a shit how it tastes, a soup is not worth the extinction risk of a species that's been on earth for millions of years. @play150 lmao. The fin itself has no tatse. The flaviours in your mouth are created by the soup it gets submerged in.
Shark FIn is aright, its not as good as Abalones (Bao Yu) I think because atleast you get the chewy taste in abalones, but sharks fins just gt swalloed It nice anyway. But Bird Nest taste sweeter. But its a tad bit cruel :/, but I cant really complain when I have eaten it quite a lot of times :/

But certainly a chicken would never have it's wings cut off and be left to die in a factory farm.. The fact your killing 10's of millions of sharks a year for your tasteless broth is barbaric and non-excusable and if you feel it's cultural then take a running jump, It's a status symbol.

What is considered barbaric also depends, I believe some vegans would already consider the slaughtering of chicken etc to be barbaric.

@fabmaester Foie gras involves keeping ducks force feeding ducks corn boiled with fat, swelling their livers multiple times the normal size leading to scarring of the esophagus. Chickens and many other livestock are kept in horrible conditions, there are even reports of baby cattle being skinned alive, kicked and shocked in slaughterhouses. That's just as bad and barbaric, or even worse than shark finning.

@play150 I know the way foie gras is produced is cruel I have known this about a decade now and I never intend on triying it let alone eating it regularily for this reason. If I found out cattle were being skinned alive in I simply wouldn't buy the meat.. The fact you you know the torture and pain the sharks go through for your bowl of soup and yet you still consume, I find disgusting.

@play150 You miss the real point. The real issue here that needs to be discussed is not animal cruelty. It is extinction of species. Foie gras ducks are not in any danger of going extinct, as they are bred for such purposes. Sharks, however, are wild animals and as they reproduce very slowly, there is a real danger of them being killed off. Extinction is forever. Animal cruelty or not, foie gras is far more sustainable than shark fin.
Shark should NEVER be eaten in any form.
