  • Another nice capture, nothing like the sound of a pair of (or more in some cases) of SD70M-2's more than half throttle, when they really start sounding like the powerhouses that they are. 2 of these locomotives can haul the tonnage which required 4-6 older ones. The very few locomotives, if any I've seen in my area have been GP38's, GP18's...and even the "antique" GP9.

  • 122 cars!

that's a big load for only 2 engines!

im a little suprised the train is going that fast with only 2 engines :|

  • For most movements it is tonnage and not 'carloads' tht count. A 100 car empty train weighs may come in around 3000-3500 tons or so. No problem for 2 units.

  • @rolls283 Yeah really.

  • horn sounds like an out of tune band and isnt that car a little too close to the tracks whats it doing there anyways

  • That was our car, it was a good 20 feet from the tracks, but the zoom makes it look closer.

  • Wow! Love it. :-) I know cabooses are so outmoded these days but I miss them nonetheless. My Mom grew up in a little town outside of Appomattox, VA with the Belt Line (Norfolk Southern) right outside her front porch. It was great!

It occurs to me that with the rising gas prices, freight trains just might make a big comeback! I hope so.

  • Glad you liked it! Yeah, trains are making a big comback on this line. We went from 2 trains a day to 3 to 6 here recently. One freight car can haul what three and a half trucks can.

  • Absolutely! Glad to hear about the pickup in volume in your area. :-)

There used to a railroad about 3 blocks from my house (Washington & Old Dominion) and unfortunately they prematurely abandoned it and tore up the tracks way back in 1968 (with a lot of pressure from the trucking industry I might add). If only they'd shown a little foresight, they could have kept it for freight and commuter service! As of now, at least it is a nice park, better than nothing I suppose but I miss the trains!

  • 122 cars, nice!

  • thnx!

  • Isn`t that crossing next to Stephenson St. crossing?

  • nioe actually, this one is about 3 or 4 miles from there, out near Titan Tires (Formally Kelley Springfield

  • (Actually I haven't seen a homosexual engineer either...I just made it up) Great video!

  • LOL! thanks

  • Australian Pacific National freight trains sound like that. Our trains are longer though.

The BHP Iron ore trains can be 3 km long at least and they travel through the desert.

Australian train crews are tougher than pussy yankee train crews too. We don't allow homosexuals to become engineers either.

  • Yes I've seen pics of those big as ore trains, they're huge! I've never met a gay engineer lol

  • Is that the crossing that used to have a wigwag signal?

  • yes it is!

  • Amazing video.

  • Sweet P3. One of my favorite horns.

  • That's a P5 like on the SD70's

  • Really? Sounds like a 3 chime. Thanks for the correction.

  • The Horn is way out of tune. The Dash 9 horns don't sound like that.

  • (Most) Dash 9 locomotives use the Nathan K3H. Depending on what company. Like Norfolk Southern for example, their C40-9W use mostly K5LA's.

  • @GEES44DC That was a Leslie. It was out of tune but its common on a C44-9W to have a Leslie. They usualy have P3's and K3LA's.

  • @DieselSmoke92 Pretty sure it's not that common. I rarely ever hear one of our Dash 9's with a horn like that.

  • @GEES44DC Okay your right. Its not common for a C44-9W to have a leslie, cn has K3LA's on theres. Its a real treat to hear a leslie on a C44-9W. Watch my video called "CN Train Spotting: C44-9W ON FIRE" (yes i know its an exhaust fire) btw it has a real healthy leslie.

  • Your Count IS:

    2 Engines, 122 Cars.

    If i'm counting right

  • thanks!

  • No Problemo :)

  • That crossing looks so familiar, but at the same time, I can't put a name to it.........

  • Its right by Titan Tires, formally Kelley Springfield.

  • Never knew that Titan bought the old K-S Freeport plant.

  • ya, it happened a few years back. the switch crew and dispatchers, and railfans, and pretty much everyone else still call it Kelleys though.
