  • Whose cheesy arrangement is this? Why tamper with the actual original .....it's like Lawrence Welk Bubbles version. But she of course was great in the part....

  • Thank you for this...... She was so splendid......I have loved her since seeing her in Oliver on Bway when it opened. An enduring memory. The power of her voice was heart stopping.

  • oh god this version is terribly over acted and very over rated!!!! i mean its slow its dull its boring and not emotional at all its just affected. Nah shani Wallis, Jodie Prenger, Kerry Ellis and Patti Lupone are the best nancy's ever. They understood the role better than this woman who over dramatized the true tragedy of Nancy

  • Shani Wallis' voice is just far too pretty for Nancy. Georgia's voice sounds like poor old cockney Nancy to me.

  • M.E.N

  • Agreed, Original London Cast Recording is best! "It's A Fine Life"..<3 <3.

Love ya Lillian Claire Laizer Getel Klot! Thank you for posting.

  • Georgia Brown was the ORIGINAL and quintessential Nancy in Lionel Bart's London and Broadway versions of "Oliver!" - since then all actresses playing this part have got nowhere near her unique portrayal. This particular track is from a solo album Georgia made in 1963. If you want her "cockney" version, check out the original 1960 London cast album!

  • @morganafan Agreed - The original production with her playing Nancy - It was my very first Broadway musical, I was 10. Never forgot her - still is the best version of this song. Evening listening to it now .. Magic. The whole production was the best one. Georgia Hale's voice had a richness to it that other versions don't. Even at 10, her voice got in my blood. My aunt took me - took me to Schraffts afterwards to have a creme de menthe frappe, I felt so grown up - Smile..

  • @dramakid95 just goes to show what you know. georgia brown was a real born within the sound of the bow bells cockney...this was part of a musical and yes pretty melodramatic but so was her part!!

  • @dramakid95 im sorry, but this is silly. she gives essence to the song, the other versions are so empty, she brings the music, song and meaning alive.

  • @1234stuff45678 Yeah, I have since got the 1960 London cast and I love Georgia Brown's version ALAHANM as Nancy. She is THE Nancy. :D x

  • @dramakid95 haha im glad you have seen the error of that judgement ;D

  • There will always be a woman,,,behind the mask I wear. I sing deep and hidden in the shadows remembering...

  • god amazing you gotta love this women and sally dexter she is amazing as well

  • Good ol' Georgia was THE Nancy, no question. It's simply scandalous how top-notch UK female leads in stage musicals used to get squeezed out of the films by American second-raters, for no other reason than pandering to transatlantic audiences.

That said, I don't think this is the best version - the original cast recording from 1960 is less contrived. less calculated, and doesn't bother with those unnecessary back-up singers. The song's allowed to stand alone, as it can and should.

  • sverigregrabb, you are correct .. then there is Shani Wallis ...

    and the others:

  • Georgia still does the BEST 'As Long As He Needs Me'--Brava, Georgia, wherever you are! And thank you again, Morganfan, for making this possible!
