Show me one performer or band today who could not only duplicate their performance thirty five years later, but actually improve upon it - to say nothing of how powerful of a song The Wall is. Awesome job Kansas. Awesome.
Owned this went it came out. Glad i had alrready learned how to listen to all the songs on an album, not just the popular ones. There's a lot of songs on the net that people say make them feel inspred that don't do much for me. This is abolutely intense, and rich, and truly inspiring, and may very well become paft of my life over the next few weeks as I attempt some changes. Music doesn't get much better than this, trugh and beauty as Keats would say.
Sadly no one is writing music like this anymore. Very few bands today know the meaning of what a "concept album" is. Few can write lyrics with any deep and simultaneously clear meaning as Kansas always did. These gentlemen are true musicians with one foot in the the world of classical and the other in the world of '70s rock 'n roll. I have seen them three times in concert since 1979. I miss Steinhardt, Livgren & Hope, but they still sound damn good!
The instrumental finish that begins at 4:12 is some of the finest music my ears have ever heard. There are a lot of songs that bring joy to my ears and this is one of them. Went to see them in Elkhart, IN and Dekalb, IL in 2011. Unless I die before they begin their 2012 tour I plan to see them two or three times this year. Worth every cent and the travel to see them.
Having had the privilege of hearing the 24-track master tape to "Leftoverture" being played back in the control room at Studio in the Country, and having listened to them ever since, this band is indeed timeless and is every bit the Kansas that they've always been. True Wheatheads appreciate that their concert performances far exceed the musicality of the the studio recordings. The symphony adds yet another dimension. You geaux, Kansas, always and forever.
Kansas was always in my heart, as many groups... This version is quite a gem, the voice is sufficiently convincing, along with the orchestral arrangement . The lyrism of Kansas is rescued for his 35th Anniversary... Long Life, Kansas!!!
I liked Aerosmith since high school. I have most of their music on cd"s and lp vinals.I've seen the bad boys from Boston many times in concert.Do you have the Box of Fire? I do. their the best. I like alot of other bands too.We lost a great artist last year, the one that sang Holy Diver,R.J.D r.i.p. he was 67.
...Ronnie James Dio even reported feeing something different in the recording of "Mask of the Great Deceiver" and "Live for the King". I had a chance to meet and speak with Kerry at Cornerstone Fesitval in Chicago and later in Raleigh, NC. for most of this info.
....On Kerry's solo album "Seeds of Change" he sings a duet with Mylon Lefevre called Wiskey Seed. If you listen to this song, Dust in the Wind, Carry on My Wayward Son, and then something like Crossfire, you will get a fairly good representation of Kerry's spiritual progression that culminates in "Seeds of Change" (read his biography by the same title).
Kerry never sang lead. It was Walsh and then we he left John Elephante. Robbie sand a lot of the harmonies. Kerry accepted Christ around 1980 as a member from another band laid out the gospel and all that Kerry had been searching for came together and made sense. I'm pretty sure this is mostly his lyrics although Steve wrote it with him.
Is this Kerry Livgren or Steve Walsh????? I was under the impression Kerry Livgren was the original lead singer. In my older years I seem to keep forgetting, lol. Still an awsome song, thanks for the post I remeber it from my youth growing up in the seventies
