DPRK has no homeless problem. The homeless are consumed as food due to the persistent famine which has plagued NK since the early 90's. Cannibalism has been a factor common to life in greater NK. There IS homelessness in North Korea - especially during the famine. Usually children whose parents had died and were left to fend for themselves. There was no point in going to orphanages - they had no food either, and usually no heating, and you were pretty much guaranteed to die. Living on the streets young children wore old factory uniforms, no shoes because they had swapped them for food...

While it is true that North Koreans have issues with starvation etc., the western world does have the same rash of problems, but always tries to mask them. Sanctions that are put in place are an attempt to disarm north Korea who have shown a systematic disregard for international order and peace. Secondly, North Korea has instituted the juche (self-reliance) philosophy on its own which has resulted in its inability to feed or sustain itself...
@nickman777 2nd part: This has led to tireless efforts by the EU, USA and other affluent western nations as well as China and Russia to provide aid. The problem that occurs is NK refuses to allow the UN to distribute the aid which results in elite and senior military gaining access to the food and aid (part of the DPRK's military first policy) and does nothing to help the ones who are truly suffering...please read up on this before you are rude.

The people are kept at this state in order to ensure they don't rebel or pose a serious threat to the stability of the regime...this is a common tactic and has been used countless times historically (example including concentration camps in Nazi Germany)

When the time comes to pay off the debt, we'll fire up our printer, print the greenback, and give it to them. Remember that the US dollar is the only reserve currency in the world, and we control it. I am not saying that China is not a growing economic threat to us. They are. But they dont own us.

There IS homelessness in North Korea - especially during the famine. Usually children whose parents had died and were left to fend for themselves. There was no point in going to orphanages - they had no food either, and usually no heating, and you were pretty much guaranteed to die. Living on the streets young children wore old factory uniforms, no shoes because they had swapped them for food...

She's right, the apartments in Seoul do cost 100,000 USD. But what she didn't say is that it is possible to take a loan and pay back that debt over a period of 10-20 years, so they are well in the normal citizen's reach.
I would rather be a homeless man in South Korea than a North Korean who could live in an apartment. At least I would be free to say what I want and go where I want.

@yonostromo my relatives back home still think of America as their dream country because they have never been here. they sometimes call me and ask me for gifts like iphone and such. I can't explain it to them how it's difficult in here to spend money like that. once I bought one of them a sneaker from Nike. but it was a tight budget for me the week after. I am just trying to explain to you how difficult it is for working people to even buy gifts.

@nickman777 i study international politics and actually specialize in north Asian politics specifically. Don't even try and pin the hardships of the Korean people on capitalist countries. Sanctions that are put in place are an attempt to disarm north Korea who have shown a systematic disregard for international order and peace. Secondly, North Korea has instituted the juche (self-reliance) philosophy on its own which has resulted in its inability to feed or sustain itself...

@nickman777 2nd part: This has led to tireless efforts by the EU, USA and other affluent western nations as well as China and Russia to provide aid. The problem that occurs is NK refuses to allow the UN to distribute the aid which results in elite and senior military gaining access to the food and aid (part of the DPRK's military first policy) and does nothing to help the ones who are truly suffering...please read up on this before you are rude.

@nickman777 Lastly, i should mention that starvation is a major part of the NK philosophy of control. The people are kept at this state in order to ensure they don't rebel or pose a serious threat to the stability of the regime...this is a common tactic and has been used countless times historically (example including concentration camps in Nazi Germany)

In a capitalist society you can't be what you want to be because of the uneven playing field for poor and rich. poor people have lack of support, financial backing, lack of opportunities but the rich have everything given to them on a platter. poor don't have the strong enough foundation to be successful in school as opposed to rich kids who were nurtured, well fed, well schooled, well taught, well clothed, not stressed about financial problems in family or making ends meet and so on.

Hmmm. Some North Koreans do live like this in Pyongyang, but they forgot to include the footage of the people starving out in the country-side living in wretched conditions. This is because they either did not work hard enough to deserve to live in Pyongyang, or they have rebelled against the regime. Sounds like capitalism to me: 'Work hard, earn reward'.

@renge9909 im not so sure i agree with that point, the north of ireland remained in english rule after the rest of the country gained independence in 1922 this was known as the free state (republic of ireland) whilst the northern english controlled part was known offically as northern ireland. when somebody says ireland it means the republic part unless otherwise stated.
