could someone please explain the benefit of the horse archers? all they seem to do is die...

@TheMahjohng In theory they skirmish around the enemy troops, causing distraction, drawing enemy's attention - this gives opportunity for infantry to strike and cavalry to do even more devastating strike. Afterwards, horse archers should ride circles around the enemy, utilizing their speed keeping the enemy away from them. In practice, M&B AI doesn't execute this tactic very well. Horse archers probably work the best when player does the same tactic and horse archers are on follow
