  • My goodies. My goodies. My goodies. Not my goodies!

  • Republican senators are working for oil companies, not for the people who elected them.

  • Ha! This oil guy is still a crook. Dodges all questions.

The only honest oil guy is a dead oil guy.

  • Cenk for President!! Haha

  • I wish the guy would've answered Cenk's questions instead of trying to constantly steer the conversation toward his own talking points about more drilling.

  • Oil executive, and former shell of a human being, asks for compassion and forgiveness.

  • Just to play Devil's Advocate a minute: The US allows these oil companies to rape the American taxpayer, yes? They pay actual taxes in other countries, right? But worldwide, America pays LESS for oil-based energy than any other country. Go to Europe, Australia, & other countries with economies similar to the US, & you see gasoline & diesel at MUCH higher prices (even after currency exchange). So when these a-holes threaten our price points, it's possible they're not bullshitting.

  • @thookerov Actually, there is only one major reason why European consumers pay much more for gasoline/diesel than Americans - and that's taxes (the prices excluding taxes are almost the same as in the US). The EU for example has a law forcing every member state to charge consumers a minimum tax rate of 0.65 Euros per litre of fuel (which converts to about 90 US cents if I'm correct), and practically all European countries charge even more than that; Germany for example charges much more, ....

  • @thookerov ...and has recently seen prices of about 1.80 Euros per litre. (For those who don't know how much that is: 1 Euro equals about 1.45 USD, and 1 gallon equals 3.6 litres). So obviously, the requirements for offering cheap gas (very low taxes) are met in the US, and the gas companies are ripping you off (the crude oil prices dropped significantly in the past couple of days - how much did they drop at the pump?). They even get the oil they extract from US soil for free (only in the US!)

  • $74 billion in profit!!! shit - i need to find my black & decker and get me some of that!

  • If Hofmeister puts any money at all into his astroturf organization then they are taking money from Shell Oil.

  • Just because it's a 80-90 year old subsidy and hasn't been settled before now, does that mean don't settle it? This guys friends are all oil fat cats and it's still where his logic lies. Cenk is totally right.

  • These Oil Companies make a little over 1 billion a week and they still need to take more of the tax payers money!? They are still getting these subsidies along with what they make annually and the tax breaks giving to them and still they raise gas prices every year. Their greed knows no bounds... Then the Republicans want to take the slack out of the poor and middle class... WTF!!!???

  • Rotten to the core..

  • The only thing I agree with the Shell guy is that no politician should be getting money from corporation. Campaign donations should have an upper limit somewhere under $1000.

  • @JIYkp or public financing

  • Everyone interested in the state of energy affairs in the world should watch the movie "Collapse" with Michal Ruppert.

One point to consider - Alaska only has 2 to 6 months of usable oil for the usa (IF all of it was drilled), NONE of that infrastructure needed for that oil is built, the pipelines wouldn't work because the permafrost is melting, and there is no reason any of that oil would stay in the usa, it would be sold to the highest bidder like Canada or Europe!

  • Why didn't the Democrats get rid of the sudsidies when they had both Houses?

  • @turnerfamilyinozi why didn't young turk the msnbc democrat cheerleader ask that?

  • @turnerfamilyinozi Good question. maybe they don't want to get rid of the oil subsidies, all the really wanna do is put on a show before the election. Both parties suck TBH, they are different sides of the same coin.

  • Funny how they have a problem singling out the richest companies in history, but had no problem singling out ACORN.

  • These subsidies are a diversion, they should be taxed 50% for a few years or get right out.

  • This former shell president went around in a couple circles there, but it boiled down to: yes, government is bought, yes, tax code is outdate. So, since the oil companies have the upper hand on this deal, regardless of how illicit the means they used to get that upper hand, the government should just give them what they want (leases/permission to drill). How that comes close to justifying the 4billion/yr giveaway, though... one can only wonder.

  • We do not live in a democracy, we live in a plutonomy (government ran by corporations). The American people need to rise up, like the middle east, and kick our oppressors to the dirt.

  • Why should Big Oil cooperate when they hold all the cards?

  • I can understand the whole "lower taxes encourages companies to spend more", but, with that logic, shouldn't you lower the taxes to the same levels for EVERYONE so we will ALL spend more? They can't do that because then they'd be even more in debt. Fucking hypocrites.

  • @KenHalo The problem is that the rich DO NOT spend more when given tax breaks, they horde more. in 1980 they had ~10% of the wealth, now they have 24%, they do not pay their fair share in taxes and then they keep it all, not one dime trickles down in the form of new jobs.

  • That's a fine lookin' suit Cenk. Swarthy

  • cenk plz stop using welfare as a bad word... since when did the general welfare for the masses become a bad thing

  • While I wouldn't agree with the 50-50 "they're equally guilty", I wouldn't say that ALL Republicans have fallen into this corruption. There's an exception to everything.

  • Here's what you got to say to these people holding the budget hostage: Go on, git! Git! We're not gonna miss you! There's plenty of people who would be willing to take your place!

  • Around 14:00

Give the money to the oil companies and EVERYONE COMES OUT AHEAD!1!!!

  • Keep hammerin' em, Cenk!

  • just kill lobbyist it is the wost thing about our system.

  • a simpler way than specifying the top 5 companies is to limit the tax breaks/subsidies to a maximum amount. eg if most smaller companies get a few million, cap it at a few million. yeah you still give Exxon a break but it's miniscule compared to what they get now.

  • a simpler way than specifying the top 5 companies is to limit the tax breaks/subsidies to a maximum amount. eg if most smaller companies get a few million, cap it at a few million. yeah you still give Exxon a break but it's miniscule compared to what they get now.

  • The Gas and Oil party supports these fuckers

  • Hofmeister = total tool.

  • My fear is that if we take the subsidies and credits these scumbags would lay off thousands of workers just because, and use that as black mail so they can get the subsidies reinstated and get even more. The U.S. is officially kidnapped by the big corps.

  • @mrmijunte10

yeah, they want you to believe that.. but cutting workers means actually cutting production which *directly* cuts into profits. it's like 7-11 closing down for 8 hours to protest taxes. they would cost themselves more in profit than they would if they just paid the taxes, and these guys work strictly on those types of decisions. they will keep making money.. they are just being bitchy and probably trying to get what they can out of the change in tax code(eg more drilling leases)

  • That was one high-volume debate haha

  • The two oil execs saying they'll leave America if they don't get oil subsidies sound like those kids that want to play with other kids but then cry and whine when they don't get their way or win a game.

  • Cenk missed an opportunity here and I know TYT covered it before. Drilling will not lower gas prices for atleast a decade. Cenk knows gas prices are inflated due to speculation and though he got in a lot of good points I think it's important to hammer home why gas prices are so high, and it's speculators, not the free market.

  • Cenk kinda talked over him a bit too much on this one.

  • The moderates in the GOP have been entirely purged. The most moderate I can think of is Lindsay Graham, and he ain't no moderate.

  • What is it about people in that room not being able to answer the simplest fucking questions in the world? You can put anyone in there, either to testify, or just a member of Congress themselves, and you ask them:

    "What's your favorite color?"

"There are many colors in the world, and I blahblahblah"

"Tell me, sir, WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE COLOR?"

"If I could just finish... Colors are adjectives and they reflect the way light reflects off of them, and..."

    You get the idea.

  • @dEdGrimley That annoys the hell out of me too.

  • @frictionRx9

NPR and Acorn are publically funded non-profit programs...unlike oil companies they are not the most profitable private corporations of all time.

NPR recieves 90 million annually...Acorn recieved 53 million total since 1994.

Oil subsidies are over 4 BILLION dollars annually.

You are such a fucking moron...

  • @DcEatsItsYoung embrace your hypocrisy you leftwing noob

  • @frictionRx9

Hypocrisy would be me saying that one non-profit program deserves funding over another. I am clearly making the distinction between subsidising non-profit programs vs subsidising extremely profitable PRIVATE corporations. Ur stupidity knows no bounds...havent u learned by now not to tangle with me?

And ill keep embracing my position so long as people like you continue to embrace corporatism...

  • @DcEatsItsYoung lolz why do you liberal loons keep insisting that not taxing someone's earned money=the government giving them free taxpayer money?

handing NPR 90 million dollars they never made in the 1st place is free money

letting oil companies essentially keep 4 billion dollars they did make is not

    you are a loon

  • @frictionRx9

    Wow...ur insane

Oil companies already keep ALL of their profits. They arent taxed. Exxons 2011 tax rate was 0% percent. On top of them keeping ALL of their profits...WE the taxpayer are GIVING them an extra 4 BILLION in subsidies. Do you even know what this debate is about?

And yes, NPR gets tax payer dollars because people have decided that they want public radio. Conversely, over 70% of the public doesnt think we should be subsidizing highly profitable corporations

  • @DcEatsItsYoung you're feeding TYT's biggest troll/biggest fan friction

  • @DcEatsItsYoung Exxon does pay taxes

    you are a loon

  • @frictionRx9

Yes, Exxon does pay taxes....to other countries. But thanks to offshore tax havens, they pay zero dollars to the US treasury. For someone who pretends to know what they are talking about, you are so damn uninformed its getting silly at this point.

  • @DcEatsItsYoung lolz did u watch the clip of Chucky Schumer I stuck on my page

that's what the democrats think about you little people

  • @frictionRx9

Ah, changing the subject as usual...completely predictable. What in the world would make you think I would ever watch anything on your page...you are a complete jackass.

  • @DcEatsItsYoung lolz it's only 16 seconds long

leftwing loons like you only wanna hear what idiot partisan hacks like young turk feed you

  • @frictionRx9

yea...cuz you know everything i see, hear and read....idiot. hey jackass, you lost the argument we had. its over...get over it.

  • @DcEatsItsYoung lolz I lost the argument, yeah right

now pinhead let's try to figure out why young turk always loses well over 100,000 viewers right after Chris Matthews dopey show ends

Monday, 147 thousand people changed the channel as soon as turk came on

Tuesday, wow 168 thousand people tuned out

    Wednesday, 128 thousand

yikes is sellout young turk ever gonna admit his tv gig is an epic failure, man up and leave in disgrace

  • @frictionRx9

ya...u did lose. which is why you keep changing the subject. ya...wow...ratings. lets see, how many viewers does ur show have again? oh wait...

  • @DcEatsItsYoung no insight huh? I thought as much

the answer is noone wants to hear from young turk cuz he's a sucky failure

oh another new clip on my page

Chucky Schumer supports the use of torture

won't see that clip on young turk's failed msnbc show either

  • @frictionRx9

heres my insight....i dont believe that ratings equal accuracy in reporting or credible journalism. that and ur criticizing him for having low ratings...meanwhile you dont have a show...ur ratings are zero...so who the fuck are you to criticize...

"Chucky Schumer supports the use of torture"....2 things

When did i ever say i support chuck schumer? And secondly, dont you support torture (E.I.) as well? Are you criticizing him for believing in what you also believe in?

  • @DcEatsItsYoung lolz young turk the hypocrite partisan hack won't use those clips to smear Schumer cuz smearing democrats is not what msnbc does

young turk loves to use polls that support his looney leftwing narrative

if high poll numbers seem to support something then it would follow that atrociously low ratings mean that the majority of people don't like or agree with what they are watching

hence most people don't like young turk

  • @frictionRx9

ur grammar is horrible. "lolz" faggot

  • @DcEatsItsYoung lolz translated your reply means you've been pwnd again and you know it

I also lolz at how you noobtube liberals love to throw around the word faggot

friction is on the air pwning all liberal noobs

    YEAH!

  • @frictionRx9

    that doesnt even make sense.

  • @DcEatsItsYoung then I'll repeat it

    you've been pwnd

    PWND owned poned Pwnd pWnD

ur also a young turk fanboi noob

his ratings suck, he's a failure, you're a failure what more can I say

wow a whole 145 noobs liked this video, that sure is some army turk has behind him

    hahahahahahaha

  • @frictionRx9 you have a boner right now right?

  • @restlys turning on the rarely seen Rachel Maddow show will make unwanted boners go away

    hahahahahahahaha

  • @frictionRx9 I dont see why anyone should take your seriously...you yourself are laughing at everything your are saying.

I feel like we should all just join you.

  • @frictionRx9

You lost the actual argument we had. Exxon pays zero in US taxes. Then you started writing nonsense...pretending it was substantive.

Ur life consists of sitting around and constantly posting comments on youtube videos. Regardless of whether or not you agree with Cenk, hes more successful than you will ever be. Same with Sean Hannity, and pretty much everyone else on TV. The idea of you even talking shit...and claiming other people are failures is a joke. u fail at life.

  • @DcEatsItsYoung lolz why does young turk the hypocrite sellout hack fraud work for GE who also pays no U.S. taxes?

why does young turk work for Comcast who is fighting against net neutrality?

ahh sold out in a second for a tv spot and some dirty corporate money did he?

hahahahahahahaha what complete phoney this so called new media "rebel" turned out to be

  • @frictionRx9 <== Troll warning!

  • @SlightyDisturbedNBK He's the village idiot.

  • Comment removed

  • @frictionRx9

Good questions...so u admit these corps dont pay taxes.

Its a pity ur not asking these questions because u actually believe in taxing these corporations. Its a pity ur criticizing him for not discussing things u dont want discussed anyway. Truly pathetic...

  • @DcEatsItsYoung. With all due respect you're stupid for constantly posting to frictionRx9 because you're giving him what he wants which is attention. friction has no life or job which is why he posts on all TYT videos. friction is also a Fox "News" fan and just like Fox can't backup what he says with facts so he uses namecalling, racism, lies and insults. Just ignore friction.

  • @DcEatsItsYoung lolz I found a video of you know who sitting around posting videos on youtube, talking shit about other people's ratings and calling them failures

yeah that's on my page too you loser fanboi of this hateful, bitter, jealous gutter rat young turk

    hahahahahahaha

  • Hofmeister is a fucking moron.

  • These (and others) CEOs must be hanged.

  • What kind of stupid question is whether or not something is "American"? It's so excruciatingly annoying.

  • If they dont have incentives dont do drill, I am sure another company would be willing.

  • You can tell by the way this guy moves his hands he's a fake douchbag. Yeah, it's perfectly normal to point with your thumb. Jackass.

  • Woooooh! That was the most awesome combative debate and I gotta give it to Cenk for those crushing jabs to the jaw! Stoked motherfuckers!

  • I think Cenk just made one of the most convincing arguments I've ever heard. It's tough to imagine Cenk's position argued any better than that.

  • I like that idea. Eliminate lobbying all together. That creates an equal footing for ANY citizen to run for office and would force candidates to actually show how they are going to implement their policy promises. You want a fair and equal campaign? Nation Public Radio/Television. All debates are held there and on corporate media too. But NO money should be required to campaign for public office. NO campaign ads either. The richest candidate can do no more than the poorest candidate. EVER.

  • CENK FOR PRESIDENT

  • Another great tough interview by Cenk.

If you're a Progressive and actually want real change you have to love Cenk for representing and monitoring that change.

Keep up the good work Cenk.

  • That's a nice Los Angeles background Cenk.

  • John Hoffmeister u've been bought son!!!!!!

  • I think Cenk made his point clear and I agree with him but, having said that, he is forgeting he is a host of a news program and he cant have the spot light over him when there are others guests

  • @Shashimir what are you talking about, he's on a cable news channel

  • @Shashimir I'm guessing you are not american, Im from the UK I was shocked when I first saw american news, over here the news presenters are resevered and don't state their opinions, Its differant in america they seem to need to be given an argument.

  • Lol, Canada's corporate tax rates are between 11 and 16%.. How's that for socialist utopia o.O

  • No Companies or Corporations should get any subsidies. what they should do instead is contracts, The US could buy oil at market value for reserves, The US could buy corn, wheat everything instead of giving out tax payer money. We the tax payer would be buying something of value. food stuffs could by used schools, prisons, or sold to ethanol companies. at least we wouldn't be giving away cash for free. thats how you do it, the government is a player in a free market

  • 9:33 Crazy peepers

  • I'l now when this countries moved forward when we get campaign finance reform, GOOD healthcare, ended the wars, and for fucks sake; get ourselves on a major renewable energy plan!!! D:<

  • Cenk's makeup looks a hell of a lot better. Anyways back to the original point. This whole oil thing is freaking bullshit. Hell what they are doing is freaking blackmail. "Gas will go up if we don't get our subsidies" what kind of crap is that.

  • @ecwaufisxtreme YES Pain i mean Palin 2012!

  • @ecwaufisxtreme Dude, for the two years that I've known your user name and comments, you never fail to make me laugh. XD

    Thankyou

  • That guy is so obviously only concerned with his own pocket book.

  • this makes no sense...he said the oil companies didn't need the subsidies and then at the end argued that the subsidies allowed them to drill for more oil...what the fuck shell guy

  • I can't tell what this guy's position is

  • @FDASARO Yeah he has no position. He reminds me of Donald Trump. His position changes depending on which part of the interview he happens to be in. I'm gonna call it though: Former Shell CEO, clearly believes the oil companies need the subsidies as 'motivation' to drill for the oil they were going to drill anyway. This guy is a snake, trying to sell his book. Grassroots organization? Sounds like another Koch front group to loosen regulations and drill anywhere that might currently be protected.

  • I'm confused... was the Shell guy supposed to be for or against subsidies?

  • @tiberianfiend thats what im tryin to figure out

  • @tiberianfiend

This shell guy PWNED Cenk in this interview for he got his PUSSY FUCKED by Sarah Palin and received her GOD JUICES into his BRAIN! Cenk is going DOWN!

  • @ecwaufisxtreme Dude you are really.....weird......DAAAAAYM :S

  • @ecwaufisxtreme i'm a big fan of tyt too.

  • I'm so glad and so surprised that they're actually pounding them on this. Since when are politicians on our side effective?

  • 3:06 OREGEON

  • That's it, okay, they said they don't need the subsidies, okay, let's end them. What're you waiting for, Congress, do it already!

  • lol, cenk looks more groomed than usual

  • @mastigoz

    He tweezed his eyebrows.

  • @mastigoz He's got makeup. The base to even out and more olivize his skin tone is especially obvious. LOLZ

  • i don't understand how in a supposed democracy, the policies implemented go in the exact polar opposite direction to what the people want. I left Eastern Europe due to the corrupt governments there, and ran into another corrupt government. Awesome.

  • @ado0101

Ditto! Left one country going down for another, dang. Looks like I'm shit out of luck.

  • @ado0101 That was a silly move, you should have gone to Sweden

  • These CEO's you see here, are the scum of the fucking earth.

  • 4:32 CENK LOSES HIS COOL!!! RAWRRRRRR

    Damn scumbags FFS!
