Just to play Devil's Advocate a minute: The US allows these oil companies to rape the American taxpayer, yes? They pay actual taxes in other countries, right? But worldwide, America pays LESS for oil-based energy than any other country. Go to Europe, Australia, & other countries with economies similar to the US, & you see gasoline & diesel at MUCH higher prices (even after currency exchange). So when these a-holes threaten our price points, it's possible they're not bullshitting.

One point to consider - Alaska only has 2 to 6 months of usable oil for the usa (IF all of it was drilled), NONE of that infrastructure needed for that oil is built, the pipelines wouldn't work because the permafrost is melting, and there is no reason any of that oil would stay in the usa, it would be sold to the highest bidder like Canada or Europe!

I like that idea. Eliminate lobbying all together. That creates an equal footing for ANY citizen to run for office and would force candidates to actually show how they are going to implement their policy promises. You want a fair and equal campaign? Nation Public Radio/Television. All debates are held there and on corporate media too. But NO money should be required to campaign for public office. NO campaign ads either. The richest candidate can do no more than the poorest candidate. EVER.

No Companies or Corporations should get any subsidies. what they should do instead is contracts, The US could buy oil at market value for reserves, The US could buy corn, wheat everything instead of giving out tax payer money. We the tax payer would be buying something of value. food stuffs could by used schools, prisons, or sold to ethanol companies. at least we wouldn't be giving away cash for free. thats how you do it, the government is a player in a free market
