@imnotrealy18yet you can draw the second shape and use the pathfinder to "subtract" the second from the first, or you can select them both and create a compound path.
I did learn. You showed how to delete a mistake point....and several other things I cant remember right now. I will watch again. question. a vertical and horizantal blue line would zap every now and then to show you werent quit vertical yada yada. how did that line come up? what did you press?
@royalconcrete1 I think you're seeing a result of the video being resized. The edges are aliased in this version of Illustrator, so it's a little jaggy. Eeww..
I had been running from this tool for awhile and finally gave it a try and it was as easy as you made it look. I had never tried it but stayed away because I kept reading posts where people were saying it was a pain but it is not bad at all. I did the E then tried my hand at an S to make sure I was comfortable with it and they both came out great.
THANK YOU SO MUCH. I have been trying for ages to draw smooth curves using the illustrator. Just tracing this E made perfect sense and it's great practice. The Key thing that helped that I was doing wrong - not Alt Clicking my control handles before laying down another point. Now I can do it all - thanks!
You're welcome! I actually learned since I recorded this last year that you don't need to hold ALT when you click to change the curve direction. That's something you have to do in Photoshop, where I started working with vectors before Illustrator. In Illustrator, you can simply click the point... even better! :-)
Oh my god... I've been trying to teach myself Illustrator (from 8 years of PS only), NO OTHER tutorial I've looked at mentioned that you could actually move the line around w/ spacebar as you go. They all just draw the line perfectly the first time, which is frustrating because I CAN'T do that! :P I knew you could move the entire canvas around in PS/Illustrator that way, but I had never thought about being able to move elements as well. God, I feel like a dumbass. Haha. Thanks...
"... Even in the middle of drawing. Even in the middle of drawing! Illustrator's that wonderful..." Heh-he. Made me laugh. xD Though it's true of course - and I have to give it to you, I learned more from this tutorial than any other "use the pen tool" tutorial out there. Tracing something, doing a real example - it really helped... Five stars!
I can make it in 2 seconds lol))

Hey dude. Whenever I make a second point with the pen tool the current trace becomes invisible. It's really a n n o y i n g. What do I do?

@Maarttttt make sure you have a stroke color/weight selected and you should see them.

I should mention that I have never really used vector lines before this... not even in PS... always just freehand. But yeah, definitely helpful...

Some people may be able to draw it perfectly every time... but not me! Thanks for your thoughts, you're welcome! :)
