I have it's big brother!! I tried these at NAMM recently & they are the shit!!! I would've bought this instead of the DT50, had it been available but I don't care, they basically do the same things.

The distortion of the solid state went from really smooth to grainy and terrible sounding. It has happened to the only 2 solid state amps I have ever owned and as I said I have nice gear it's not like I am broken by the loss of the amps just wandering if anyone had an actual explanation for as to what happens to solid state amps as they age of if this has happened to others.
Can someone explain to me what happens to Solid state amps after about 10-15 years? I have had 2 solid states in my life that started out life sounding good, the clean still does sound pretty good, I mean for practice I have hand built Fender Bassmans and Marshall 1987's hand build with mustard caps and all the trimmings, they were both marshalls and the one that sounded the best was they're early Valvestate hybrid amp. The distortion just seemed to come apart, its not tight anymore.
That amp sound so good, contra my old Line6 Spider 112 50W... I think this amp rather be totally amazing with a POD with tones mixed up in a computer.. Many, many, many options! Im still a little afraid of it thought since my old spider amp was sh*t and still is....
@Guitarmadness91 Yeah Line 6 is trash always has been but this appears to be in combination with Bogner or at least I thought I saw the tag on the front. With solid state amps which is all line 6 used to make then they made a run at a tube amp with modeling and shit built in and I have heard they suck really bad, I have even heard its processing is slow so when you hit the strings you actually aren't imeadiately hearing it from the amp it takes a few thousanths of a second to make happen.
@Broyale26 I used to play solid state amps but now I am into handwired tube amps but I will say when I was playing the Marshall Valvestate hybrid amps sounded really good to me, the clean is really clean and the distortion isn't grainy. My dad still has a 2X12 marshall valvestate he uses, check into those, I am not sure about the AVT series but they might be a continuation of the valvestates. Overall a Hybrid might be your best option, like 1 preamp tube to warm up the tone.
@Guitarmadness91 This to me looks like a 2 channel Egnater Tweaker or similar at least, instead of all the modeling they have gone more analog, thats why they made a point to say analog switching between pentode and triode whereas before it would have been a modeled sound of that, I think this hybrid would blow your old line 6 out of the water. I say it like this, if you have to have 2 channels i.e. you don't use pedals for OD or distortion this is cool if you do use them try a tweaker.
Line 6 finally made something even the purist tone junkies would want. One can have pre and power amp versatility and run their old analog stomp boxes that they love so much.
@Carthsgtr well i half agree with you. if you are a broke musician or if you are looking for something to jam with that is easy to transport and quick to dial in sounds. then L6 still has its place. i wouldnt use it for a pro gig tho. well maybe the DT50/25 but not the spider. i still have the original spider 2x12 and i take it to jam with my buddys or to just jam at home to come up with ideas. but the DT im sure will replace all my amps.
IMO Line 6 have missed a trick or two here. Firstly this has the potential to be the ultimate practice/recording/rehearsal/gigging amp - so why did they omit an MP3 input and headphones socket? This is especially galling when they've included a bedroom level practice mode. Seriously, i would have sold all three of my current amps for this bad boy, if it could be used in conjunction with my phone/iPod etc. for Youtube Lessons, Jam Tracks etc.
Secondly, not including a simple latching foot-switch and expecting a potential purchaser to buy one from a competitor seems both plain mean and strange. Another £15/$20 for the amp would hardly result in no-one buying it. No doubt next year they will release a new and improved MK2 version with these features included, but by then the competition will have caught up and released their own take on this amp. Come on Line 6, you're 98% there, just a little more effort required!
Very excellent amplifier, I have peronally used this at the Fox UK Music store. They are planning to stock several of this model, plus the combo version. They were willing to offer me a very competitive price for both the head and cab.

I got the head. Never owned a head and cabinet before, so though that would be cool! I also got the 1 x 12 cabinet, and already own a Laney 2 x 12 cab. Have played 5 gigs in the 7-8 days since it arrived - amazing amp.

@sekoser No. Digital preamp. 12AX7 tube in the preamp is only a phase inverter to help warm up the signal before it gets to the tube power section (2 x EL84). All tone controls and gain structure are digital (Line 6).

@pixeltarian I'll bet if you heard it in a full band mix you would dig it more. IMHO most modeling gear sounds thin when you're jamming solo but sits oh-so-nicely when you're playing with a band.

Does it still feel like a tube amp when using the pod HD as a preamp? For instance, if you did a blind test would it feel close enough to make someone think that it's just a really good tube amp?
Just wondering because I love my Pod HD to death, but headphone and computer speakers just doesn't give feeling of being in the room with an amp. so I am looking for something that will shake me, but still give my the flexibility of a pod unit. So Chappers do you think this is a great solution?

What did you use (or settings) to get the sustains and the over the top harmonic sounds ? I heard you mention the sustain was on with the harmonic on top when you handed him the guitar. Are those on the amp ? or the POD HD500 ? I have the POD HD 500 and love it by the way.

Already used it at a gig today - amazing amp. Only used the Fender and Marshall channels (1 and 2) and my fx pedal board (boss gt8 and some pedals).
Fantastic amp. Just setting up the POD HD500 now to control it for a gig tomorrow!
I'll record some demos and do a review of my own very soon at my blog site.

@RobChappers could you and Lee do a how loud is test with the DT25? Some of the demos you did trying amps against your old band line-up where good too. Could this amp handle a rock band situation? Enquiring minds want to know :-D

But a 4x12 with 50 watt head has always been the standard for loud stage volumes and a desire for "chunka-chunka" metal riff low end.

If you have another midi capable multi-effect unit such as a TC electronics Nova System, can you then access all four topologies with a click of the foot switch or will you still be limited to just two?

That is fucking nuts. I was like meh at first, then when the HD500 started geting used and the Divided by 13 sound was played I got caught. Line6 amp and pedal AND THERE'S HEADROOM IN THE SOUND?! Holy crap!

@sekoser No. Digital preamp. 12AX7 tube in the preamp is only a phase inverter to help warm up the signal before it gets to the tube power section (2 x EL84). All tone controls and gain structure are digital (Line 6).

@pixeltarian I'll bet if you heard it in a full band mix you would dig it more. IMHO most modeling gear sounds thin when you're jamming solo but sits oh-so-nicely when you're playing with a band.

I've had my heart set on either a JCA22h or a Blackstar HT20h when funds allowed, but now I think I might have to give one of these a shot instead. The added functionality with the HD500 is REALLY impressive and almost has me sold on this amp since I plan to get an HD500 eventually anyway. Love it.
BTW, the line 6 hi-gain amp model was VERY impressive. I liked its sound more than the boogie and uberschall models.
Can't wait for these to be released stateside so I can get a price in USD.

Does it still feel like a tube amp when using the pod HD as a preamp? For instance, if you did a blind test would it feel close enough to make someone think that it's just a really good tube amp?
Just wondering because I love my Pod HD to death, but headphone and computer speakers just doesn't give feeling of being in the room with an amp. so I am looking for something that will shake me, but still give my the flexibility of a pod unit. So Chappers do you think this is a great solution?

What did you use (or settings) to get the sustains and the over the top harmonic sounds ? I heard you mention the sustain was on with the harmonic on top when you handed him the guitar. Are those on the amp ? or the POD HD500 ? I have the POD HD 500 and love it by the way.

@chainz456 he has a sustainer in the neck position of his guitar, most likely the fernandes sustainer system, it's not the amp creating the effect.
