Actually while freeing Africa from the white regime is certainly a part of the song's meaning, equality and world peace are emphasised to a greater degree. A free Africa cannot happen whilst the world is consumed with prejudice, injustice and (to put it bluntly) evil. Before anyone, no matter what colour their skin, can be truly free, the world must change completely.

This is what Haile Selassie was talking about. First fix the world, then move onto the other problems.
