  • This is proper urban music, not like all this grime and dub step shit!

  • Really digging this tune.

  • Roots Manuva vouched for her. Nuff said.

  • Suck out haters! Girl u got talent baybee, keep shinin star :)

  • Back in the days on the boulevard of Linden, we used to kick routines and presence was fittin'

  • Another Ninja smash

  • Top.

  • smooth.

  • I like the song. But I wouldn't want to fuck her.

  • @audiodead Who cares, seriously ? Do you wonder if you would fuck Talib Kweli ? Oh, sorry, maybe you would...

  • @audiodead I can tell you're a kid from your attitude. Dont care what age you are, you're clearly not a man, you're very immature.

  • Who produces this? Beat's lush

  • @wjtaylor26 Plutonic Lab - Australia ...ehhem

  • Comment removed

  • sorry but this is just shit

  • I love her music and rapping. She is original fresh and definitely has a lot to say. Music stimulating to the educated

  • I like the instrumental....i don't like her 'rapping'

  • People says this is REAL hip-hop. When did real hip-hop ever become boring and soulless? This is poor

  • @foook111 Soulless? Atleast its coming from one without a taste of good music. Worst favorite-list i have ever seen, so I would say you are the poor and soulless one.

  • @jhs81 Ouch, ma feelings.

  • check out her set on bandstandbusking, she's backed by a live acoustic band, it's pretty dope.

  • Speech WHO? commerical fail.

  • Damm

  • How to make a music video on a £40 budget lol

  • @AlexanderJayxo and yet like her music it works

  • fresh!directly added to my chanel-hunting the good rap international!!!

  • Okay, listened to this AND to the accoustic version of watchlistentell - can´t decide which one is better..

    I LOVE THIS

  • this is shit.. why did she win the mercury prize..

  • i like her a lot.

  • Why is her Nan holding her pants at th end?

  • @Harrius Read the label.

  • @Harrius that's a sweater, actually. speech debelle got her name after her nan's clothing line: de belle.

  • CONCERT LIVE PARIS TOUR EFFEIL AUJOURD'HUI !!!

    LIVE IN PARIS TODAY !!!

Speech Debelle told me yesterday that she will freestyle under the eiffel tower at 15H today!!

    I LOVE HER FLOW

  • her rapping is not in time...oh well

  • @dhollseed you have ear wax.

  • @dhollseed yes, it is

  • I can't understand half of the stuff she's saying, and the stuff I do catch is not very amazing at all...

  • @franklinthegreat1 professionals call it ‘IQ differences’ ;-)

  • @blkryme25

    exactly :P

  • awful music and she looks like she is having a fit with her hands waving around like that AND she is UUUUUUUUUUUUUUGLY

  • @TheTimtomato That is a really mean thing to say! She doesn't adhere to the stereotype of the sexy sexy image that so many people with mininal talent rely on to sell records. I know she aint no Beyonce, but look at Missy Elliot she is so incredibly hot not because of her looks but her music is fabulous. So give this girl a break!!

  • unbelievable- soothing, refreshing, and just plain awesome. congrats to her!

  • pure class...!

  • Comment removed

  • wow a lot of people hate this for no apparent reason. why don't you try backing up an argument? if you don't like the music don't comment. just go away and leave the fans in peace

  • @rht992 almost as defensive as a Beatles fan.

Look, this girl won some hyped-up award, thus the curious among us are prone to check her out and pass judgement.

Miss Dynamite had better rhythm and catchier songs.

  • I hate to hear the queens english disfigured in such a way. Especially by a fat, obnoxious prole with no taste or elegance. Uninspired garbage.

  • @MrGfiddy Shutup you fucking snobby, stuck-up, posh twat.

  • Harsh critics here...

  • i love the woodwind part

  • @crubba how embarrassing for you.

  • I came on Debelle's Speech Therapy through the Present Magazine. Great track.

  • Save to: Favorites. Check.

  • ninja... what else to expect?

    nice.

  • @ncd25 right? they know their music.

  • perfect!!

  • she is the SHIT all you haters can eff right off!

  • @Smokersway Excellent reasoning. A little verbose, you could have made it more economical by saying "she is shit".

  • "For every Malcolm X, there is a President Bush/For every ambitious soul, there is a couch potato."

Ayo...This girl ain't playin', for reelz! WOW!!!!!

  • My god. Who chose this production for her. She can't ride the beat to save her life. A Golden Era Hip-Hop forumla is what she is attempting here. Too bad shes around 15-20 years late. No actual groundbraking material here. No innovation or notable creativity. Average at best.

  • @ramosd6721 can i get your opinion on one of my tracks please? you seem to know what ur talking about so your honesty would be appreciated. this isn't a circular just read your comment about the golden era hip hop formula and figured your a good critic lol :-).. the track's called 'life' its rough but i just threw it up to get some opinions. much appreciated g

  • good lord, this is incredibly poor.

  • Following her Mercury win, was intrigued to her what she was all about, at the same time expecting yet another massively disappointing "we've gone for the random urban act who will never do anything ever again" artist. Well, whaddya know?...hugely boring and unoriginal (and that is some truly dreadful clarinet playing; surely she could have been backed by better than a school wind band?) How is this "fresh"? How is a substandard, 15-year-too-late Arrested Development ripoff "fresh"?

  • @danbo1984 If you were to be the sole judge on the mercury panel, who would you pick, out of the nominated artists of course.

I'm not trying to defend her etc. Although I do disagree with you.

There a few reasons why i'm interested, mainly because i'm writing a review of this CD, but I wasn't around during the original Hip Hop era, so I don't know too much about it.

How similar would you say her styles and those of that era are?

  • @Nuntype cheers for your reply, nice to get a sensible and polite reply to my rather bad-tempered post! I just think the Mercury Prize tends to alternate in different years between the most obvious and least obvious choice for the prize; one year it's Arctic Monkeys, another it's Franz Ferdinand. Winners aren't picked on merit, they're picked on who the judges feel will be the most "controversial" that year. Just think Speech Debelle album sounds incredibly tired and old-hat.

  • I love this song!!

  • she is playing in exeter tonight.....

  • I heard this track today on CBC Radio. Original and skillful phrasing and melody hit the mark with me. She's emotionally personal without being annoying, know what I mean? I love both rap and jazz. Blended this way, Speech Debelle catches the attention. I want to hear more.

  • it's nice, fresh but the video seems to be made at home (holidays movie)

  • I like it... it's fresh, it's new.

Better than your "pimpin, hoes and spinnin rims" shit all you haters seem to be crazy about.

  • GreeeeeeaaaaaT...awesome,a girl who can rap..suuuupaaa!!^^

  • I used to download pirated music. I realized recently that it is one of the reasons pop music is in such a sorry state. They aim the music at little kids who still buy CDs cuz they don't know how to use torrents or gnutella. I'm buying music again. Maybe it won't change things but I'd rather support real music than Disney/MTV bollocks.

  • Shit!! You might have a point there. You can add to that list American country music fans (not computer literate because "computers are the devils' playground!!") "Yani"-esque, soft etherial music fans (their listeners are to boring to learn how to use torrents) and classical and jazz music aficionados (too rich to sully their hands using thepiratebay.)

  • @jimgravesus mtv sucked and was aimed at kids far before torrents. it was and always will be.

  • This chick is real... REAL! Best Hip Hop i've heard in ages...

  • really nice track.. well done. for some reason....looove the intro

  • reminds me of classic tribe called quest..

  • I hear that! So refreshing! <3

  • sounds like slick rick aha :P

  • lol nigga

  • This remind anyone of Del Tha Funky Homsapien's "If You Must"?

    Similar flow

  • sam travis = gay

  • Who produced this, the beat is IMMORTAL!

  • Also, on a google search, RAPIDSHARE is first. This is not good for this young lady. Pay for the tunes, catch the vapors.

  • @Bfresh99 Australian Producer named "PLUTONIC LAB"

  • distinctly average

  • i've never heard this girls tunes before. i heard she got a mercury so i thought i'd check her out. i've got say its different. dunno if i like it but its a breath of fresh air.

  • I gather Ms. Debelle is rather popular in the UK? Because as someone who's unfamiliar with her she seems to get a disproportionate amount of negative criticism.

  • She's not popular at all. She just won a major music award here and a lot of people think she shouldn't have - including myself. I've heard this all before but with an American accent.

  • @123got180degrees

    HAHAHA!

    Perfect.

  • that suck

  • i would like to like this but ...it's pretty awful...pretty,pretty,pretty awful.

  • i sadly agree. the intention of this song is better than the execution.

  • why are you's sat there criticising "oh oh i wish she would use real words"

go back to reading dictionarys, nerdy snob, if you dont like this video or her music please enlighten me, WHY THE FUCK ARE YOU ON HERE IN THE FIRST PLACE THEN??

  • Beat is pretty tight. If there's instrumental to this tune I'd buy it.

  • You have a point about Obama's hypocrisy, but tis video was made when he'd just been elected, so you can't blame her for that. And if you listen to Speech's lyrics you'd understand that she is more interested in social equality than the colour of his skin. That's just my opinion though.

  • @LGFCRequiem self-righteous much?

  • Wow.. so many haters it ain't funny. Gotta say it took a while for Speech to grow on me, but I really feel it now. She's real open, personal. More power to her. Love it.

  • @misterbushtucker Let they have an opinion.

  • james corden could've sung this better!

  • IDIOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I would say in her defence that at least shes not all bling bling like NDubz , solderboy an the rest BUT, she's crap Delasoul , dream warriors,Galliano did it better 10 yrs ago. Also was her dad on the Mercury pannel, how the hell did she win it?

  • why is there so much bad negativity???? honestly she must be one of the best female rappers to be able to release this song. why can't you just praise her for once!!

  • look i'm a rapper myself and she should by slapped. lyrics are shit, flow is even worse, and da beat aint much better, she only got a record deal coz shes a girl (or is IT)!!!!!!!!!!

  • absolute crap - sounds like a little kid pissing about.

  • at first I though it was libby fox from eastenders trying to rap with her lisp or something

  • GBJ83 you are so funny :D

I don't mind this but I wouldn't choose to buy it!

Bat For Lashes shoulda won the Prize for '09.

    xx

  • Yep. Either that or Florence.

  • Rap with a silent C.

  • seconded.

Big Hit with a capital S

  • She's terrible. She can't even rap

  • Yeah of course.....

    LISTEN PERHAPS?

  • perfect....

  • ..ly shite

  • love the beat. she's a good MC. nice voice. like her accent. good flow. but not clear enough. needs to punch out those syllables a bit more. saw her live and it just didn't pop out the speakers enough.

  • She's ace, saw her live on thursday at the Mr Hudson gig in Manchester :D

  • reminds me of de la soul.. like it

  • What a pile of detritus

  • Comment removed

  • always looking out of windows...

by the way, what's she talking about? overstatin' is the key? huh? guess I'm just not british ):

  • "overstanding"

  • ha, I just looked that up and the meaning is cool, like removal of all illusions in the entirety of the mind...still, that slang stuff...I wish she'd use REAL words, Urban Dictionary, yeash.

  • chill...pretty chill..is has this dub'y beat.^^

  • beast woman rapper in a long long time ,,

  • Speech debelle visited my school for a black history month presentation and sang to us spinnin' and the key. no lie.

  • what a song, well done speech

  • produced by my man plutonic from down in aus. great tuneeee

  • awesome tune xDD

  • Well done that Speech has won the Mercury, unfortunately I feel she needs to give more space in the songs, too much stress and too many words over the beautiful music

  • her accents kinda messed up...

  • You don't get it. Her accent his key!

  • Gwaarn sistah i love what you are saying, overstanding is the key key...undoubtedly.

RAP is about expression, telling a story, feelings, pain, emotions, thoughts evrything a person feels man, and my interpretation is that this is what Debelle is doing man telling her story, her perspective etc. Backing her all day shes giving us a message, open ur EYES ,EARS and SOUL. 1 love.

  • I can kinda see both sides of the arguement, but I personally think this girl is fantastic. It's really refreshing to see some lyrics that are actually about something, and the music is just so laid back. I'm not a fan of Florence, but she writes some incredible music. Everyone has different tastes, but it's all music, it's all love. Embrace different styles, it'll help you appreciate more

  • love the clarinet, the track reminds me a little of arrested development.... fanya kweli dada ....watchana na mawivu watameza wembe

  • im so sick of british music just being from london, they had a really good chance to give it to something different (glasvegas) than mockney shit like this.

  • i guess you just got to except that music is always changing, not always for the better though.

i think the murcurys shouldnt be EVEY year

  • if arctic monkeys won mercury price, why u think she couldn't? LOL, i mean this is very good music, problem is that u cant here it :P

  • i like this song!

  • I think she deserved to win the mercury award.

Anyways i bet u can't write let alone sing a song as good as that.

  • and THIS is what won the mercury....?

  • this girl is shit omg

  • There both good.

  • I like her TShirt but meh I dont quite like the song. To be perfectly honest I think Florence should have won. This song isnt special and it isnt exactly genre-defining.

  • I totally agree! Florence should have won hands down

  • all the acts at the mercury were great and all couldve won for differnet reasons. now STOP BITCHING. I love mainstream and indie music and all genres. judge a song by the song and artist not by genres and exposure.

  • listen to roots manuva and still hold that opinion and you prove that you have no taste.

  • To be honest guys, the favourite act never wins the mercury - because they have all the exposure and album sales already. It's always the obscure acts with a great album but slipped under the radar with no radio exposure...and I have no problem with that. If Speech Debelle hadn't won a lot of people would be missing out on her exciting music. Whereas everyone knows about Florence's talent already. I know they say that sales has no impact on it but I don't think that's entirely true. :)

  • actually, predictable acts like the artic monkeys who won in 2006 are the usual acts that win.

the only suprises that there have been in the mercury prize awards was Dizzee Rascal (who rightfully should've won) and speech debelle.

  • well there is a difference, Dizzee`s Album is actually good.

  • love it, one of the finest albums for many years. Not totally original, or groundbreaking- just simply beautiful sounding music with a performer talking about REAL life, from the heart and with soul.

  • she uses good beats...its difficult to overstand what she says sometimes....

  • mercury isnt about the rating of the sales or the next best band wit da hairstyle. it's abt rewarding the genre-defining & innovative artist/band bringing the novelty into a musical climate each year - so stop whining about why Florence or Horrors couldnt win, you twats, the same thing happened when Antony won the prize and all the kids went "kaisers should have won". this is all yr british shallowness, being formulaic and plugging hairy NME bands.Know the diversity and embrace new sounds.

  • her album is ok, but horrors should have defo won

  • if anyone of you whos dissin her could do better then go ahead. if not then stfu.

  • Fair enough florence and the machine is much better but its not all about the best its also about sales and reading into the music :)

  • Are the Mercury Awards the same as the Shit Awards? Good choice for a winner, then.

  • Personally i thought Florence & The Machine should have won. I cant believe people are saying La Roux should have won, You can probably only name 2-3 or their songs, And her voice gets on your nerves after awhile

  • i've met florence and i am glad debelle won :P

  • what a snobby bitch she is..and pleease.. 22? she looks like a 35 yo witch!!

  • i agree.. La Roux and Florence and the Hype machine sound like witches with screechy voices.. go mad after 1 minute.. they sound like old maids

  • I heard that Ron Burgundy perfomed the accents on this track... dont know if it's true though.
