@MrPeaceoflife Mindlessly believing something just because somebody told you it happened seems closed minded to me. If Jesus did exist and did want what was best for you, I'd assume he'd want you to form your own opinion rather than believe a book that's been written over 2000 years ago.
Eve of destruction 2O11-It says in the bible that near the end of days-Man will travel to and fro and there will be an explosion of knowledge!!Those days are here now..
@ffffffffffffffff900 Brill !!! Thanks for the Info, very interesting.. This was one hell of a song. Would go down well today with some of the young groups/bands. Still I guess nobody could ever beat Barry McGuire`s original version. One of the all time great songs of the 60s........... Cheers from the UK..
When we used to perform this song, we sang "Bring your next door neighbour and dont forget to save her" Before that we sang, "The grabbing of the oil, the power and disgrace, you can bury your dead but dont leave a trace. 2nd verse we sang, " Cant you understand what i`m trying to say, cant you feel the fear I`m feeling today, If you open up this book {meaning the Bible} theres no running away, there will be no one left to dig our graves. Oh well, it went down well anyway.....
This is about the cold war. Think about the time it was written, bay of pigs, cuban missile crises, vietnam war, these were all major events and all happened because of the cold war. There was the space race and the constant threat of nuclear destruction. That's what this song is about. It's the sixties in a nutshell.
this song isnt really about the veitnam war it is about the state of the war at the time and the destructive tendencies the world is full of. It is also about casting stones at other cultures saying they are bad when we are the same way in a different form.
@stealth0576 The song is about the cold war because both us and the soviet union had nuclear weapons and if one of us pushed the ''button'' then the other would and there would be nukes going all over and destroying the world as we know it
@CrazyBanana298 that is only one of the many themes demonstrated through this song. there is alot of symbolism. if you dont understand his references look them up and you will realize there is alot more going on.

with this and Universal Soldier, now all that's needed is One Tin Soldier and Zorr and Zamm. (and No, I did not just make up that song title.)

Thanx for the lyrix! (sic)
Great reality song.
The "Red Rockers" did this song a grave dis-service. Too bad many today only know their rendition.
Barry McG did it right, way back in '65.
