their riff sounds like a rip off of the meshuggah song Autonomy Lost on catch 33. It kinda pisses me off that they would blatantly do that...
Frams - released 2007
Catch 33 - released 2005
i dont like this band any more, not to be a troll but my friends spoke highly of this band and this is just disappointing. What are some of there other good songs so I can look them up before I completely write off this band?
@cateran0101 I think it's definitely inspired by that sort of djenty sound, but I really like this song nonetheless.
I don't think you can fairly say it's a rip off without calling all the other bands who borrow meshuggah's sound rip offs too, which is not the case.
However, the other oceansize songs don't really have this sound, it's more progressive rock/post rock. I love Unfamiliar and Women Who Love Men Who Love Drugs. It's just wonderful.
@cateran0101 You should listen to the two more closely. Same time signature, sure. Different riff. I would be a little surprised to hear that 'Size listens to Meshuggah.
The jump from Everyone Into Position to Frames was ridiculous. They just started working on a totally different musical level with this album, they almost sound like a different band for most of it, but in a really, really good way. This song especially is just so fucking bizarre in so many ways, but it has to be one of my favorite 'Size tracks ever.
This is definitely a legendary Oceansize track, but in all fairness, if you're absolutely new to 'Size, and someone else directs you to this song for a first listen, they're a fucking cuntbag.
If you see this and this is your first listen, stop this song, and go listen to Trail of Fire, No Tomorrow, Music For A Nurse, and Ornament/ The Last Wrongs.
Then listen to every release in chronological order; you'll soon realize they're the greatest band ever. True story.
@handyguy007 good luck figuring that out man :D i can play along to 99% of this song by just listening to it as i play :) maybe its more clear in the other live videos of this song (i mean the Feed to Feed live version) ;)
2 people are CUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUNTs
Nah. someone pointed me towards this band. told me check it out. there's flashes of good tunes here, but they could've just gone instrumental or brought someone in who didn't sound like they swallowed a lemon.
@Paradis80 Well, everyone is entitled to their own opinion. Most people who listen to this band really like Mike's voice. He is unique, which is good. There are just too many singers with derivative voices out there today.
In fairness the vocals sound nothing like this on most of their songs. I think they were just going for a really extreme sound on this track. Listen to most of their stuff, there's no screaming at all. But, personally, I think it works here.
Nahh, this isn't post-rock; there's nothing textural about it. Strikes me as in a Mr. Bungle bag, without the po-mo stylistic pastiche. Better'en Bungle, tho and I don't say that lightly. Their fluidity with odd meter shifts on this tune is astounding, their chords perfectly chosen. Notice they all wear earpieces; a click-track to keep them together? I hope not, but hey. Haven't liked music in this general genre so much since Blotted Science; I think I like this tune even more than they.
@Snardbafulator Nahh, the earpieces are monitoring to hear each other. If you lock to every live Video of these Band or Maiden, Metallica, etc. etc. All wearing in-ear-monitoring to the others, and to hear themselves.
@rockdahaus Oh, okay -- to replace stage monitors, gotcha. I should've thought of that instantly. Much better because feedback and directionality would never be an issue. I'd guess it's all wireless ...
@shaftahoy In the studio nothing I can see. Using click-tracks live means it's one less parameter that can breathe spontaneously, which is a greater or lesser issue depending on the style of music. Hey, one of my favorite bands, Cardiacs, played all their later stuff with recorded tracks live, which is the functional equivalent of using a click track.
A click track would be less well-advised depending on the degree of improvisation.
This song is frickin awesome. Give the feel of this, and the Meshuggah comments, anyone interested in either band should give Cloudkicker a spin. Its where Ocensize and the 'Shug meet and have sexy babies: cloudkicker.bandcamp.com/track/were-goin-in-were-going-down
5:06 - 5:25 = weirdest fucking thing ever. Especially when you associate oceansize with the more lush, epic stuff, like I used to do until I heard this song. Probably my favourite off Frames, it's batshit.
@bkchickfarmer91 seriously? really? I hate the fact how people even think sikth are a rip off meshuggah, let alone comparing OCEANSIIZE to them, I know what you mean though the first 15 does determin the whole song really.....ehem.
I'm starting with oceansize and please don't say they are better vthan meshuggah cause they go somewhere with their melodic chorus and stuff, Their good, i can tell that already but meshuggah are gods, even so i don't think i should compare something so diferent in terms of which is the final objective for each one of the bands. I like Amplifier better so far but a deeper look at oceansize maybe changes that, we will see... Anyway i love this song riff, and the one in the 6:00 is brilliant...
"The slime... looks so good on your face... one for charm... one for disgrace... CUNT!!! And in the back of the truck I'll find the antidote... and all the passengers know it's time to jump the boat... your children will remember... every word you say... never doubt that youre leading them astray... but you're welcome... youre welcome... but he cannot console 'cause he swallowed it whole!"
I prefer this stuff to Meshuggah much more. While Meshuggah is fun to listen to, they get boring to me after a while because they really do the same thing in each song (imo), whereas this utilizes their sound and "goes somewhere" with it, like the melodic chorus and such.
@thepatientool I hear it. The riff in Autonomy Lost is very similar. Granted, probably in a different key. Both octave-based. Both in an odd signature. They're playing in a dropped tuning. That's why some people are thinking "Meshuggah" right now.
Understandable that the working title for this track was Meshuggah! Took them about 3 minutes to tune their guitars for this one first time I saw it live. CUUUUUUUUUUUUUU*T!
