Our 11 year old Jack uses mounting to elicit play. He is the reverse of dominant - he will run away if there is a fight - but he loves goading a dog to chase him, and mounting seems to be the most effective goad. He just wants to be a rabbit.
yep. Some dogs do some obnoxious things to solicit play. lucky for them so many dogs who may not want to play will put up with it. Jonesy is now 4 and often has an 8 month old Australian Cattledog visitor. She loves to try playing with him. He thinks he's too mature. Now he's getting some of his own medicine:-).
Yes. He had grown up on a horse ranch away from other dogs (except his housemate). So he had no social skills. He was also fear aggressive towards unfamiliar dogs starting at 8 weeks of age. He's good with all dogs that come to house now. For unfamiliar dogs on the street he is unsure at first (especially since many lunge and bark at him even when he's heeling and focused on me!) but good enough so virtually everyone thinks he's good.
could it be excitement the JRT just does not know how to engage in play with the other dog? Also the other dogs posture is very intense, body weight in front legs, is that right?
