like many are saying, and i can confirm after playing more, there is damage... but the physics of it is unrealistic! In a race with "enabled" damage, it took too much for the car to get visible and affecting damage. Some cars have it, some don't, which to me is not adequate.
Hopefully there will be an update, but i doubt it since it would take too much to adjust such a failure.

@xmod4u i believe you,for some reason 2 small clips are just stuck in my head as "seen before" know what i mean? i feel the same way an you do about the damage though! if i make a mistake and smack a wall at 100mph i should not be able to finish the race. that kinda damage can only make the game and the learning experience better in my opinion. BUT its PDs first attempt at realistic damage! they should have focused more on the damage first,then a good 600 to 800 fully detailed cars.
@xmod4u they focused too much on the ""over 1000 cars" part but failed to finish all the detail. i haven't looked at the full list of cars but im sure there is an insane amount of JDM cars on this game we all could have done with out. i do like the new physics though. its also a video game on a console so there is only so much they can do with in one area without sacrificing something else.

Maybe gt6 will have better damage engine and then we will have the ultimate racing experience. This will have to do for now as it most likely becomes the highest rated racing game on ps3.
@MAZZEKAARTS because if ur gonna make a realistic racing sim u have to have realistic damage! when i put a wall riding,rear ending cuz i cant break, ill hit anybody that tries to pass me kinda guy on a game that will wreak ur car to the point of not being able to drive it or maybe u can drive it but ur wheel turns to the left or ur ass end slides our on hard cornering because ur rear downforce wing fell off when u hit that wall back there! it makes u race realistically!
The game gets harder and more options opens up further in the game you get. Full damage, AI blocking your path to name a few aslong with the obvious ones like new tracks, cars etc (which you also need to lvl up for)
@Kafiristanica crashing is sadly apart of racing this is what makes it exiciting along with the skill of passing etc. While you tell him to go play burnout at the moment burnout is just as realistic as the gran turismo games.
After investigation, only the premium cars have damage models. That car is a standard model- basically a touched up port from GT4, not a high rez model.
Unfortunate, but its likely they will update the more popular standard model with high res versions later on through patches.
@Kafiristanica Crashing is a part of racing. If you're to call your game THE racing simulator, you have to cover all aspects of it as carefully as you can. That includes crashes and car damage. We waited long enough, we want a true to life driving experience! Just saying.
I have answer for you: GT5 is the real DRIVING simulator - not real CRASHING simulator :DD

Premium cars have full damage, normal cars only get bumps and scrapes. No way to tell which settings were used in the footage.

It selectively simulates aspects of reality to recreate an experience.
GT recreates the experience of racing extremely well. You want it to recreate the experience of crashing very well.
I dont consider the experience of crashing as important as the experience of racing, so I dont give a shit if half the cars don't have damage models.
If you want an excellent simulation of crashing, play burnout.
